    Protein

@@simplyblessed I use GENEPRO. I get it on amazon.com. It has 30grams of Protein. I use it everyday in my decaf hot tea. I drink either 24-32oz of decaf tea every morning. That way I get in my liquids and my protein. I then drink one RTD premiere Protein shake for lunch and then a small protein filled meal for dinner. I am 7weeks post op and I feel great!! I have been losing steadily!! Good Luck with your journey!!!

    Protein

I used Premiere Protein pre op and I use it post op. Pre op I added 4oz of 1% milk to cut down the sweetness. I also had to do this for a few weeks right after surgery. I now can drink them without the milk just fine. I also used unflavored protein powder and put it into a Progresso light French onion soup, I strained out the onions and just drank the broth. I couldn't take all that sweet everyday.

    Exercising Post-Op /

I was up walking the day of my surgery. The first time I only went to the end of the hall and back. I got up every couple hours to walk and each time I went further till I made it all the way around the floor. I even got up at night and walked. My husband stayed with me so he helped me around each time. Then once home I walked everyday. Each time going further and further. I then broke it up to walking 20 mins three times a day, and then 30 mins twice a day until around end of 2nd week I could do a whole hour at the gym on the treadmill. Each time pushing myself to go a little faster. At about the 3 week mark I took a zumba class, it kicked my butt and I only did 30 minutes then 30 mins on treadmill. But the next time I went I did the whole class. I couldn't do all the moves she did but I was continuously moving the whole time. I felt so good that I got thru it. Then at about 4 weeks I started some strength training with my hubby and daughter. I try to get to the gym or do something 3-4 days a week depending on my work schedule!!

    Sweet tooth!

@@brians34 Here is the whole recipe (it might be from eggface.com but I really don't remember?) When I make it I cut it in half and get four servings that work perfectly for me. 8oz Ricotta part skim 1/2 cup grated parmesan 1 large egg beaten 1 tsp Italian seasoning 1/2 marinara or spaghetti sauce 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella mix ricotta, parmesan, beaten egg, seasonings together. Place in a over proof dis. Pour the marinara on top and then top with mozzarella cheese. Bake at 450 for about 20-25 mins. With the ingredients I use, and for half the recipe these are the counts I get. 94 calories 7.25 grams of Protein 4 grams of sugar (this is because of the spaghetti sauce I use) My doc wants my sugar grams at 25 or less and I am always around 6-9 only for the day so I use the sauce I like!!

    Should I?..Do I have to?

@HalloweenBaby24 $125 for a follow up visit?? I didn't pay anything at my first follow up at 2 1/2 weeks and I have my next apt on Dec 30th. If anything I should only have to pay my copay which is $35. My appt on Dec 30th is with the NP and I really like her. She listens, she is involved and I do not feel rushed. I have had no issues really either but I do think the follow up is important. It's sad that some on here seem to have great docs and others not so much. Some have great support and some nope. It is great that there is a place like this where people can go and share and ask and advise. I am 7weeks post op and I am on here basically everyday. I try to offer advice and encouragement when I can. I am glad to hear your aren't having issues that is great!!!!
  7. I haven't had any issues with dumping and I am 7 weeks post op. But then again I am following my docs orders to the letter. I am to afraid to eat or try anything I'm not suppse to. LOL On one hand I am afraid it will hurt me or my stomach and I will feel sick and then on the other hand I am afraid it will not and I will eat more of it So for now I am working my tool to the best of my ability. I want to get the most bang for my buck (just an expression my insurance covered my surgery) in the first 6months that I can. Cause I know after that it will come off slowly and I have quite a bit left to lose. Good Luck and don't make yourself crazy. I was like that before my surgery but within the first week post op I realized I was doing just fine, and now I am just enjoying the weight coming off and all my added energy, oh and wearing jeans comfortably for a change.

    Sweet tooth!

do you have the amounts you used?? Can I use splenda instead?? Sounds yummy!! I think this would make a nice Christmas dessert for me. I love my ricotta bake I make with spaghetti sauce and mozz cheese.

    Protein shakes:(

I also like the premiere Protein in vanilla and chocolate. In the beginning (I am 7 wks post op) and pre op they were to sweet for me so I mixed them with 4oz of 1% milk. Made them easier to drink. Now I use one for lunch pretty much everyday just by themselves.

    Scars are red and itchy

I didn't put anything on them. Just itched around them. Some days were worse than others but really not that bad.
  12. CheleLynn45

    Good savory liquids

I also needed something not sweet at that stage, Progresso has a light French onion soup. I would strain out the onions and then add my unflavored GENEPRO Protein powder to it. So yummy and savory!!!!!

    Eating vs. Nibbling

I was told 2 shakes and one small meal a day. I will be 7 weeks post op tomorrow and this is what I have been doing since my 2 1/2 week check up. I go back to my doc's office on Dec 30th I will see then what they recommend. I was told no snacking, I haven't been snacking, but once in awhile after a morning workout I will have a mozzarella babybel cheese wheel. This has actually been working out very well for me and I don't find myself hungry. I usually leave my small meal to eat at dinner with my family. I have been losing pretty steadily so far and hope it continues!!!

    Scars are red and itchy

This!! Mine itched like crazy!!! My belly button incision took the longest to heal. My other four are so tiny and look really good now. Still itch once in awhile but nothing like the in the beginning!!

How do u get ur protein?

I will be 7 weeks post op tomorrow. This is my daily routine....... Breakfast: 32 or 24oz of decaf tea (32oz on my days off, 24oz on workdays) with GENEPRO unflavored Protein mixed in, Tbsp fat free creamer, and two tsp splenda. 31grams Lunch: RTD Premiere Protein shake (I alternate between the vanilla and chocolate) 30grams Dinner: This is where it varies on what I eat, but I usually get between 15-20grams depending on what I eat. So my total protein for the day varies between 72-80grams daily. My surgeon has me on two shakes and one small meal daily only. I thought this would be hard to do, but it really isn't because I really don't feel hungry. That I like. I am gonna work this tool as much as I can in the beginning because I know it will get harder as the months go on. Good luck on your journey!!!

    Frustrated

Wow.....It is so sad to see posts like this, I feel bad for you guys. There is no excuse for you leaving your docs office and feeling this way. My surgeon is nice enough, but straight to the point. My husband keeps reminding me surgeons cut, that is their job. I am a type of patient that likes to be coddled. (yes I am a big baby LOL) So I love the job my surgeon did on me, but he is not the coddling type. Now Debbie the P.A. in the office who I will be seeing from now on I LOVE! I have had to call a few times with questions and I never feel rushed or brushed off. I saw my surgeon at my 2 1/2 week check up everything went fine he was happy with my progress but wanted to keep me on two shakes a day and one small meal. So that is what I have been doing. He didn't want me tracking calories (but I do) but did want me tracking Protein, Water and my sugars. He did write up a plan for me for where should be, but I am trying to look at that as goals and not written in stone. I was at 270.7 this morning and my "goal" to be at for my Dec 30th appt is 260. I am pretty sure I will get close (I have been losing pretty steadily) but if I don't I am overly THRILLED my progress so far!!! Hang in there everyone. I know we are all doing the best we can and losing is losing no matter how much or how fast!!!
  17. My journey started in Jan 2014 with a referral from my general surgeon (who was going to take care of my ventral hernia) to the bariatric doctor. Went to a seminar late Jan 2014. Found out I had to do a doc supervised 6 month diet. Started seeing my regular doc monthly in Feb 2014. I also had to see the NUT, do a psych eval and a swallow test (can't remember the name, it was the less evasive of the two). Then in May 2014 I got a letter from my insurance saying that they weren't going to be in contract with the hospital my surgeon worked out of. I was told they were in negotiations but wasn't guaranteed they would get it figured out. Then at the very beginning of August 2014 the contract was settled and I continued on with my psych eval it was the only thing left to do. I had continued to see my general doc for my 6 month diet just in case. I was able to get an apt for middle of September for my psych evaluation. Turned everything in and was approved in less than two weeks. My surgery was scheduled for Nov 3rd. Had everything set, time off of work, hubby off work, mom flying in and then the surgeons office called and my date was switched to Oct 27th. We were able to get everything relined up Thank God. And here I am almost 7 weeks post op (on this coming Monday 12/15). Time sure has flown!!
  18. I just updated my ticker again, and noticed I was smiling so much. LOL Just wondering how everyone else feels when they are able to update their tickers?? :) :)
  19. Great job with getting your weight off before surgery. Try not to fret about the scale not moving for two days, I know easier said than done. I only had to do a one week post op diet and it included two Protein shakes a day and one small meal of 3oz of protein, a small salad and piece of fruit daily. I lost 9lbs.
  20. My surgery was scheduled for 2:15pm and was home the next day by dinner time. I was glad to stay one night, because I stayed overnight there was no waiting period for my disability to kick in!! If I had gone home the same day I would have had to wait 14 days.
  21. So glad to hear things went well for you!! I had a similar time of it. I am almost 7 weeks post op and nothing about my recovery went the way I thought it would. And for that I am extremely grateful. I used to no pain meds except for in the hospital. Was able to sleep on my side first night in hospital. Yeah!! I wish you continued success in your journey!!!
  22. HaHa.....It's just the one tervis tumbler I use. It is really cute. The goldfish design that is on it looks like real goldfish.
  23. I will be 6 weeks post op tomorrow. Per my doctors orders I am weighing myself every morning until my next check up on Dec 30. Well today the scale said 274.7 and that is 40.1 lbs lost since 10/21 (surgery was 10/27 only did one week pre op diet)!!! I am just so happy with my progress. My doc told me to be doing two shakes and one small meal a day with no snacking. This is what I have been doing and it has working so well. I have really had no problem doing this, and also getting in all my Water and exercise. My doc has a goal of 260 for me to hit for my Dec 30 appointment and I am so hoping I can make it. I just had to share my excitement and a NSV I had last night, My 15yr old daughter and me were shopping and we went into a store I had never shopped in before.(Torrid) I had gone in and looked around but never found anything that would really fit, Well my daughter had me trying on jeans. YIKES, my least favorite thing to wear (next to a bathing suit LOL). I live in AZ so I am lucky weather wise that I could get away with wearing capris year round. But I did have to have a pair or two just in case the weather drops into the 50's. The pairs I had were 26W and super tight. Last night I walked out with a pair of jean jeggings and boot cut pair in size 22w!! I am just going to keep on doing what I am doing and keep enjoying this journey!!!!
  24. Your lunch bag sounds more interesting than mine. LOL I work part time so when I do work and have to bring a lunch my lunchbag (which is very cute and new) contains three freezie ice packs, one tervis tumbler with gold fish on it and one premiere Protein shake in either vanilla or chocolate.
  25. That's and awesome NSV!! I am so glad to hear you are ok!!!
