Cramping on the left side
jujube replied to jessroto's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had that also. Not sure what it was. Gas?? But I had a drain in that spot also. Once I had the drain out, I haven't had them since. -

Creative uses for Whey Protein Isolates
jujube replied to VegasGuitarGuy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have not found this to be true. I have more issues with clumping at cold temps. If it is somewhat clumpy, I just use a whisk for a few seconds and it is fine. I use Isopure unflavored. -
Creative uses for Whey Protein Isolates
jujube replied to VegasGuitarGuy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't think you need to worry about the 140 degree aspect. My nutritionist has me adding unflavored Protein to alot of things that are over 140 degrees. BUT after getting negative feedback on the subject of >140 on forums I did some research. From what I understand, yes, protein powders do "denature" at >140 BUT they do not lose their nutrition value. If they have 30 gr of protein at 78 degrees, they have that much protein at 200 degrees. It is like an egg. heat it up to >140 degrees and it changes form but it still has the same protein value. I mix it with blended Soups, coffee, and will add to oatmeal and other things when I am able to eat them. -
Oops not less than one week.......I am almost 2 weeks out.

Day 10-why do I feel so hungry and lightheaded?
jujube replied to jujube's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My Dr said I don't need acid meds. I asked Monday when I went to get my drain out. Is it ok to just go buy some over the counter? Prevacid?? -

Post op -
I burped a lot the first week. Even after just a sip of Water. It concerned me at first because I thought is this going to be a forever thing. I am 9 days out now and the burping has almost ceased.

I was in the hospital overnight. The morning after the surgery they took me to have my leak test, About 11, they sent up a bottle of Water and some carnation instant Breakfast. The nurse had me start the one ounce cups of water and then around noon, the dr came in and had me try to drink the carnation instant breakfast. After I could hold that down, I went home....probably about 2 pm. Was in the hospital a total of 32 hrs.

The beginning of the rest of my life starts soon
jujube replied to lupin1500's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Good luck with your journey. You are going to do great! Check back after the surgery and let us know how you are doing. -
I am 8 days post surgery and having a real issue with smells. An air freshener I previously thought was great I can no longer stand to smell. If I eat a blended Soup (which my dr said was ok) if I don't get up immediately and wash the bowl, I am grossed out. In fact, sitting here I can smell the remnants of soup and there is none here. I guess I will have to do a scrub down just in case I accidentally spilled some. The wet dog food bleeegggghhhhhh. I have not been nauseous at all and it doesn't seem like that is the problem. I just can't stand smells. I sure hope this goes away.

6 month Doctor Supervised Diet
jujube replied to ryany's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Is that doctor required? Back when I started my weight loss Quest about 2 yrs ago, my insurance required the 6 month diet (which was basically just 6 months of going in and getting weighed). Fast forward 18 months....... a girl I work with had the surgery and did not have to do the 6 month wait. She used a different surgeon. When I went to mine, they told me I had to do the 6 month wait and I said why? my co worker didn't and she has the same insurance. Lo and behold, they did not know (or check) that the requirements had changed. So just a heads up if this is why you are doing the 6 month supervised diet. It might not be necessary. -
I must admit, I had the moment of regret after the first few days of surgery and I still am having them occasionally trying to force down Protein shakes. But, we did this for a reason and this will pass. I have no regrets and we are just going to have to keep our heads up. I am 8 days out and it DOES GET BETTER!!!!! It took me about 5 days to start thinking, oh yeah, now I remember why I did this.

One week anniversary
jujube replied to Mrs.Harkness's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I weighed more post op then I did preop and wasn't to my preop weight for about 5 days. That bummed me but I read that it is the air and fluids from surgery. -
You look great! Congrats on your journey!

I just had to do 2 meals that were shakes and one that was a sensible meal for the week prior. A girl I work with that had a different surgeon had to do 2 weeks of liquid and 1 week or maybe 3 days of clear liquids prior. All surgeons are different. I was worried about the same thing "shrinking my liver" since I knew I had a fatty liver. But my surgery went without a hitch so I assume my surgeon knew best.
-
I am also kind of concerned 1. because the Protein shakes are starting to affect me this way also and 2. I have a very low gag reflex to smells. I start back to work next Wednesday and working in a dr office, there are many different "smells". Being in close contact with patients, I would hate to start gagging because of a smell. How embarrassing.

jujube: For a lot of patients, when they are very sensitive to smells, it is usually when they are in a little ketosis. Sometimes something as simple as 4oz of grape or apple juice combined with 4oz of Water will be carbs to get you out of it. What kind of blended soup did you eat? Try some black bean soup or even a little cream of chicken thinned with skim milk. Either one of those should get you out of your ketosis, if that is the problem. I have eaten chicken noodle and last night it was a potato soup.
