Why is it that what we shouldn't be eating goes down so very quickly? I thank hopeinapril and jencys for the kind comments - it is nice to know that we are in the same boat - not that we should be in the sweets boat! We are banded and need to let the band do its job. That is something I have forgotten over the past year and a half - I had gotten to a point where I was a little too comfortable, and now - looking for clothes because everything is too tight! Guess I'm a little angry with myself for letting this get out of hand. I've had a good week and plan to continue. Just passed my 4th anniversary and thought I would have been at goal by now. Have to say I didn't want to become a bulemic in doing this like some. So all in all, I am better off than I was 4 years ago, I just have to stay on my current path. I can do this!

Hello everyone! I have not been here in a long while and I have to admit that I have been struggling. Why is it that the things I should not be eating go down so easily? Yep, got myself hooked on chocolate worse than ever!! I have been back on track for three whole days now, am not "starving", so I do know my band is working. I had lost 70, gained back 20-25. I still need to lose about 50 at this point. i will keep on chugging along. Actually went for two walks today (short, but walks still). My goal is to start walking everyday. So, what am I looking for at this point? Encouragement and support, I guess. I got the band as a tool and need to let it do its job. It has been a long time since I had a fill, but I really don't think I need one right now. Eating regular food fills me up rather quickly, but it seems that I just have to take that one more bite and it puts me over the edge. One would think that after all this time I would have learned. Well, I guess enough ranting for now! I will check back regularly. Continued success to all!

Hello everyone. It was nice to have so many notices pop up in my email yesterday regarding March '08 bandsters. I have not posted here in a long time and feel as though I am alone in this journey as well. I had gained 30 pounds and am thoroughly disgusted with myself. Went to get a fill about a month ago but I am still struggling. I suppose I should go back to get another fill because I think about food constantly and definitely eat around my band. Never thought I would be so slow in losing my weight. Don't mean to sound like I am complaining but I do feel as though I have lost my way. I had joined WW, but find it difficult to eat like they recommend. I do have some restriction... Well, you all know how it goes. Anyway... My goal for today is to start eating the way I should and I will have a Protein shake for Breakfast since I know I don't get enough Protein. How do all of you get your protein in? I look forward to hearing from you!! MJ

Sharona, I liked what you said about visiting here more often and also the fact that at 59 you think you would have learned! So true! We always put everyone else first and I have come to realize that the time for me is now and is one of the reasons I had the surgery. I do not regret my decision as I feel it is one of the best things I have ever done for myself. Rome wasn't built in a day as they say! Keep on trying everyone!!

Funny how chocolate goes down way too easily! I was banded in March '08 and still struggle daily with my weight. I am down 67 pounds (hurrah) and would like to lose 40 more. I just received a fill last Thursday and am seeing a difference in my eating so far - a good thing since I haven't lost anything since August and actually gained 7 pounds. Not a lot by some standards, but a lot for a "bandster"! I also still have problems with what I see in the mirror! At times I see the difference and at others not at all! My prayers go out all of you - keep on trying and never give up!

Hi all! Thought I would check in to see how everyone was doing. As for me, I am down to 171 as of today making my weight loss a total of 61 pounds! My last fill really seems to have "kicked in" as I am only able to eat small amounts at a time - something I have been waiting more than a year for! It took my last adjustment 2 - 3 weeks to make a big difference. Does anyone else have that happen to them? Even though my weight loss is slow, I know that I will NEVER be heavy again! I finally joined the gym and have been doing cardio for the past month. I actually like it! The next thing I need to do is weight-lifting to see if I can tighten some of the saggy skin! Keep up the good work, my friends!

I have been experiencing some heartburn the last week or so. Wondering if anyone else has this problem. It has been a couple of months since my last fill and I was thinking of scheduling another since I am not really losing. What causes the heartburn? Any suggestions? Thanks in adance!

i am staying on plan today because ...
Sapphire904 replied to losingjusme's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I've seen this post before and have not posted myself - well, I stayed on plan today (for the third day in a row) AND I have to say that I am feeling better. I started eating around my band and gained four pounds. Well, by tomorrow they should be gone and I am back to a downward trend! I have lost 53 pounds in the past year since being banded and I do not wish to go back to where I started! Too much candy over the past month - funny how that goes down very easily! -
Hi! I was wondering if this has happened to anyone else - I have not been sticking to a healthy eating pattern lately. I really don't feel all that well because of it. My plan each day has been to get back on track and I have not done that. I really do need to get back to my new habits! It is not that I can eat a lot it is just the wrong things. I thought that if I posted here it might make me be a little more accountable. So, I will start back on the proper path tomorrow morning. A protein shake for breakfast. Soft foods for lunch as I think my band needs a rest from the vomiting. Thanks for listening! Here's to tomorrow!

I am a branch supervisor for a bank. I am also a Creative Memories consultant. I love both my jobs!

Hello all! I was banded on March 7, 2008. I started at 232 pounds - I am 5'3" tall. To date (2-12-09) I have lost 48 pounds. As with all of us, I wish it were more. My new motto is - It is what it is! There is nothing I can do about the past, but I can positively go forward to the future! Keep up the good, hard work everyone! We will get to our destinations!

Just couldn't resist typing that phrase! However, I am a little nervous - okay, a LOT nervous. I am ready and looking forward to my new life. As of 9:15 a.m. tomorrow, a new me begins! Good luck to everyone else being banded on 3/07 as well!:biggrin2:

I haven't been here in quite some time and I do admit that it is something I need to do - come and visit, I mean. It has been so good for me to read about your successes and "failures" as I find myself in the same boat. My weight loss so far has been slow, but steady. Since being banded in March, I am down 28 lbs. Not a bad start! As always in my life, I wish it were more! I have had 3 fills so far but I don't think I have found that "sweet spot". I am leaving on vacation and didn't want to get an adjustment just in case it was too much. I am noticing a few changes with my band even though my last fill was 2 weeks ago. I guess it really is a learning process. So, I am not planning on overdoing it and with a two week break from work will be able to walk each day and I find that is really appealing. Well, thanks for listening!

Is it possible for something to get stuck in the stoma and still actually be able to eat other foods? I ate a bagel the other day and haven't felt right since. Coincidence? I don't have any sliming or anything like that. Curious! Thanks for any help.:confused2:
-
As far as eating that bagel?? Yes, it was a moment of insanity - first bagel I had since my surgery in March. Yes, it definitely will be the last time too! I had my second fill two weeks ago and am still learning about being banded and adjusted because until the other day I didn't feel any different. I will return to mushies and my protein shakes for a few days and see if that helps. Thank you both for your words of wisdom.

Can I still have surgery if it's that time of the month?

It was "that time" for me as well. The docs didn't care! I agree that the getting up probably helped with recovery! Good Luck! -
OMG!! Just ate 5 french fries and a bite of fish
Sapphire904 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I cannot believe I just did that - ate 5 fries and a bite of fish. I am two weeks post op and was fully intending on drinking a shake. I do have that by my side right now, but I cannot believe what I felt in that moment. It was as though as I had not eaten before!! Has this happened to anyone else? I will stay out of the kitchen that's for sure! Hopefully my DH will be home shortly and he can tend to his own dinner! Nothing got stuck or feels like it did anyway. Boy, do I have a loonnnggg way to go with learning more new habits!! Thanks for listening! -

After reading these posts for a while, it is interesting to see how different everyone's doctors are! Due to a scheduling conflict with my surgeon, I am not getting my fill until 8 weeks after banding! I will survive even if I am having some tough moments like tonight! Found some M&M's (plain & peanut) in the cupboard and they taste mighty good. So, now I have banished myself upstairs with a bottle of water! -
Anti Inflammatories & the Lap Band
Sapphire904 replied to DixyChixy1966's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I take celebrex on a regular basis. I am 4 weeks post-op and I take it daily. I have not had any problems. I am not getting an adjustment until 5/08, so I do not know if that will pose a problem. I did discuss this with my surgeon before and he said it will not pose a problem. As a matter of fact, the morning of my surgery, I was given celebrex - the hospital feels it helps control pain in conjunction with other meds. As always, if in doubt, consult your physician. Good luck!!! -
How long did you have to wait for your first fill?
Sapphire904 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on 3/07/08 and due to scheduling conflicts (dr's and mine), I will not be receiving my first adjustment until 5/07. Is this overly long to wait? Just curious to know how long most people have had to wait. -

Thank you for all your replies. I guess I will not be too far off track! Yesterday, I ate a sandwich (tuna melt) and it went down way too easily! However, I was so full for the next 18 hours it was ridiculous! I learned a little lesson there! It always amazes me at how easy it is to slip back into bad habits! -
:biggrin2:Received my date yesterday - March 7th! I am also excited to have this done as I am looking forward to loosing the weight and keeping it off!

Hi Kathy! I didn't do WW before surgery because I (foolishly) thought that if I was able to demonstrate I was capable of losing, my insurance company would not approve me! I got that impression from the nurse I was working with! However, that being said, I will follow WW once again once I am able to return to eating regular foods. They have a wonderful program. Try the "core" program which betrthnever mentioned above. A word of caution, though...do not mention you are going to be banded or have been banded. The leader in my class does not speak highly of people having been banded. I feel that is unfortunate as this is a tool to help us keep the weight in the long run. Good luck in your endeavors!:biggrin2:

I'm not sure. I have a follow-up appt at the end of April. We'll see what happens then, I think. I am not quite sure when one actually gets the first fill. I know, sounds dumb, but I forgot to ask! I will be 7 weeks post-op at my appt. but I am going out of town the same day as my appt and that sort of worries me.
