Hi, I'm in the Mesquite area. I know that Dr. Rodriquez has a good reputation. My hubby and I both used Dr. Robert Powell in Richardson. I would highly recommend him as well. I'm not sure what he charges for self-pay, but he is an excellent surgeon. Best of luck to you!! I look foward to meeting you at a future DFW get together!!

DFW at Jack Astor's in April.
MsButterKup23 replied to JanetC's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I dunno if I can make it or not. April is not a good month for me this time around because of Hubby going to India and my MIL's wedding. I will try to make it, sorry I can't commit. -
DFW at Jason's Deli! Sat, Mar 25, 11 am
MsButterKup23 replied to JanetC's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Darn, I'm sorry I couldn't make it. Hubby is getting ready to leave for India again and it's been crazy. Hope to make the next one. Everyone looks great! Sorry! -
Heal up girl!! Hope things get better soon!

Lately I've gotten into a blahh about food. First off, I hate feeling full, I think that has helped me a lot with weight loss, but I almost avoid eating to keep from feeling full. It's physically uncomfortable for me to feel full, kinda hard to explain. I also rarely get excited about eating anymore. I know I need to eat, but I could literally go 2 days w/o eating if it wasn't for getting puney and a headache. I don't think I need an unfill or anything, perhaps I'm finally just losing my mind. LOL Anyone else in the same boat?

It was pretty good. I had a bit of a problem with it for some reason even though it was moist. Hubby enjoyed it more than me

non adjustable banding
MsButterKup23 replied to badboybob's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Yeah, personally I don't think I would do the non-adjustable band. The reasons we need fills is because we lose fat around our stomachs and the band gets loose. -
Sorry to hear you aren't feeling well. You'd figure if you drank the pill would break and it would be over. I've never had a problem with pills, I do cut the larger ones up with a pill cutter or try to buy liquid meds as much as possible, I find they typically begin to work quicker anyways. Hope ya get to feeling better soon!

Soda.......to drink or not to drink??
MsButterKup23 replied to Clementine's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My doctor told us not to drink sodas, mainly because it could cause a lot of pain. I will admit that I DO drink them. I just don't gulp them, it takes me about 2-3 days to drink a 20oz bottle of soda. I have no problems as long as I go slow and burp as I go. -

Will I ever feel full?
MsButterKup23 replied to Dollie's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Most people don't experience much restriction with their first fill. My hubby has the larger band like you do and he is in the same boat. He needs another fill, but he is getting ready to leave for India for 3 weeks and wants to wait until he gets back. Best of luck to ya! -

The first week can be difficult. My daughter was 10 months old when I got banded. My hubby stayed home with me for 3 weekdays and the weekend. By Monday I was back at school but still unable to lift my daughter. I would plan on having someone there for 3-4 days at least and plan on not being able to pick up your kids for at least 2 wks. Best of luck to ya!

Off topic, but need support - Depression
MsButterKup23 replied to LilAngel's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm in the same boat. I've always had a bit of depression, but after my daughter was born in 2004, it really set in. I've been on Lexapro (which I wouldn't recommend because it stops working) and I'm currently on Zoloft. I'm not sure what I am going to do. I seriously think I am at a point where the Zoloft is not working good enough, but I am not sure. I don't want to raise my dosage, but at the same time I am almost miserable and I'm making my hubby the same way. I'm trying to work through some of my issues w/o raising my dosage though. I have so much stuff coming at me from several different directions that I feel like my world is spinning at times. Best of luck to everyone! Hopefully we can all find the answer together. -
Tried to Talk Me out of the Band
MsButterKup23 replied to danaclark2's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I think you should find a different support group. True Lap Band isn't right for everyone, but neither is RNY. You need support, not someone making a decision for you! Best of luck to ya! -
It all depends on swelling and healing. If you have pain I would definately lay off the mushies. Your tummy needs time to heal and the band needs time to rest in the right spot, it has a hard time doing that if you are digesting "food". Best of luck to you! It does get easier!

I almost took phen-fen. What kept me from doing so was I didn't have insurance or a way to pay for it. It would be nice though if they could make something as effective as phen-fen but not dangerous. I remember talking to a lot of people who had lost weight from it.

Congrats on almost meeting your goal and welcome to the forum!! How much weight have you lost?

You will do great!! Have a great day and congrats on your new journey.

It has been raining in Dallas all weekend. I finally just decided to go to the store. It started raining even harder when we were getting ready to leave Wal-Mart (go figure!). I actually ran from the front door of Wal-Mart to my truck and didn't feel like I was going to croak from a heart attack. My knee and back didn't like it much, but it was so wonderful to bounce along across the parking lot listening to my bundled up 17 month old daughter laughing because we were going so fast.

Welcome to the forum! I'm Carrie, I live in the Mesquite, TX area. I've been banded since August, 2005 and lost right at 85lbs. I love my surgeon and my band. My hubby was banded this past January by the same doctor and is doing great. My best peice of advice is to remember that you are doing this for you and your future. Being banded is very much a mental process, so don't worry if you have a bad day, things will get better. Best of luck to ya!

Anyone use Dr. Robert Hagood in Dallas, TX?
MsButterKup23 replied to o2beslim's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
My former OB who moved away was friends with him. She recommended him to me if Dr. Powell didn't work out. I have never met him, but I trust my old doctor. Best of luck to ya!
