Poll: would you do it over again?
MsButterKup23 replied to lovecats85's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm very pleased with my band. Some of the stuff people go through on this site does frighten me, but Gastric Bypass is not something I want and I HAD to try Lap Band before I did something as drastic as GB. -
antidepressants/psych meds?
MsButterKup23 replied to Monica S's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm on Lexapro 20mg. I started at 10mg right after my daughter was born for postpartum depression and major anxiety and it worked for about 6 months, then the depression seeped through. My shrink told me that after 20mg she likes to go to something else because the increased dosage really doesn't help. It's now 6 months later (since the increase) and it's not working anymore. It has helped a lot with my anxiety, but my depression is coming back. I go Monday and I bet she changes me to a different happy pill. -
I need some opinions here... I am almost 28, married and have a 14 month old daughter. I have been overweight my entire life (from the time I was 8 or so). I was over 300lbs when I got pregnant. I have lost right at 50lbs in a little over 4 months. I am scared to death of becoming pregnant again. I know that fertility often increases as our weight decreases. I have been on the pill since about 6 weeks postpartum and was on it a long time before that. I had a horrible time with postpartum depression starting before I even left the hospital I have sought treatment and continue to be on antidepressants that I am unable to get off of because of withdrawal symptoms. I will spare the details of my PPD, but it was horrible and I never want to go through it again. I asked my ob/gyn (same person who delivered DD) to tie my tubes at 6 weeks postpartum and again 7 months later at my annual exam. She told me to wait 6 months and we can discuss then, she only offered me the IUD (which I don't want) or another prescription for the pill. Its been over 6 months and that doctor has moved out of state. My question is 2 folds. Does anyone know an OB/GYN in the DFW area that will listen to me about MY wishes instead of looking at the fact I am 28, with 1 kid and a history of PPD?? Has anyone gotten pregnant on the pill after having Lap Band and losing weight?? Thanks!

LOL I am interested in Essure. It's done w/o surgery. My hubby isn't exactly supportive of me not wanting more kids so no vasectomy.

Thanks, I spoke with his nurse and she said that he would have no problem speaking with me and they could get me in probably next week that their system as down. I spoke with one of the doctors that took the place of the doctor who moved and he wanted me to wait until I was over 30. I'll keep you posted.

This is completely normal. I went from April (my initial visit w/surgeon) until August (when I had my surgery) with a severe case of "last supper syndrome". I gained weight. You have to mourn food, but in the end you have to know that the food you are mouring is like an old friend who did you wrong, because of that food I was 300lbs. When one door closes another opens. Best luck to you!

I'm just now beginning to learn and I've been banded for 4 months. I eat what I want until I am comfortable and literally throw the rest away so that I don't go overboard.

What about a get together in Shreveport
MsButterKup23 replied to ladysplenda's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I personally like the Horseshoe because it is cleaner, I hate cigarette smoke. -
Personally I think you are too tight. This was discussed in another thread (see trouble sleeping thread) and the person there is also too tight. I would call my surgeon and be honest with them about the symptoms I am having and get their recommendations. Best of luck to ya!

Sorry to hear about your brother, I will keep him and your family in my thoughts. (((((HUGS))))

I agree with bubbamee20022003. At least you didn't gain weight! Take it easy and continue your journey.
-
Sounds like we were banded around the same time. I personally would talk to my doctor and see what his/her opinion is. Good luck!
-
Sounds like it could be reflux. How long have you been banded?
-
Okay, concerns after pre-op visit!

I didn't speak with a nutritionalist at all, but I didn't request it either. I have lost 50lbs in 4 months by just trying to eat things that don't make me sick. Basically I try to have 1/2 a Protein bar for Breakfast (that's all I can eat in one setting), a chicken breast tv dinner for lunch, the other 1/2 my Protein Bar for a snack and something either baked or grilled for dinner. I am physically unable to eat the things that made me fat. Hamburgers are out unless I take the top bun off and only eat half the burger with the bottom bun. But what good is the burger w/o the fries?? I can't handle potatoes, IF I do eat fries I have to find the crispy little cruncher ones and throw the rest away otherwise the potato swells and gets stuck. pizza is a no-no, I can't handle the cheese, it clumps together and gets stuck. My surgeon had a post-op diet and I really don't remember the details of it. I followed it and at my post-op appt he told me to move onto mushies for a week then solids the next because I heal very quickly and didn't have a problem with swelling. I wish you the best of luck! -
i'm never eating in public again!

I'm so with you ladies! I am a carry-out person, if not they must have a multi-stall restroom. I can vomit quietly if need be. LOL -
I'm sorry to hear that. I sincerely wish you the best.
-
Could it be the potatoes?? Potatoes and me do NOT get along at all these days. This happened after my 2nd fill. In my opinion (from what I have read) Dr. Maese is a bit aggressive on fills. Perhaps you got too much to quick (fill wise). Best of luck to ya!

If there is a moisture invovled have you tried Gold Bond Powder?

Where are the happy bandsters?
MsButterKup23 replied to tomorrowsdream's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am also very happy with my band. I had a little irritation/infection at two of my incision sites due to my boooobies rubbing them. They have healed well and I've not had anymore problems. -
It's also common to gain weight during this time as your body is in *shock* mode. This is a time to heal not worry about weight loss, trust me you will have plenty of that later!
