@@VASCRN no not having heartburn but it may mean you need to have a additional or different Proton pump inhibitor (PPI) med to reduce the acid in your new stomach pouch. Call your Doc to discuss your symptoms. Is it at night or day after eating certain foods or liquids? Have your symptoms written down so you can give them the best sense of what's happening so can try & diagnose over the phone or call you in. good Luck & no I'am not a doctor so follow Your Doctors advice!

@bridget1015. Happy Surgery Day. Congrats on doing so well! From one New Yorker to another the best is yet to come! I'm in my 3rd week PostOp & getting used to puréed food & learned to take it easy on type s of food & making sure it's puréed. There's a great Forum I participate in called October 2014 you may want to try. Great resources from folks just ahead of you. Take Care

@misstvb. Bravo for getting thru the work week. It only because I have my own business That I've been able to take 4 weeks off to recuperate. Your my Hero for being able to do both. I work in hospitals & never the same one primarily supporting Surgeons or ER Docs so I know I would be challenged getting in my liquids. I'm working on a plan now for when I go back. The "waterlogged" AP helps me now but your not allowed to bring liquid in the Operating room and you have to hide them in a cabinet in the ER. Somehow I will have to make it work. Hoping your going to figure it out so you can give me tips. Ok! Get your strength back tomorrow and recharge yourself for success next week!

@@GFord889 Congrats for doing so well!! If you have the option and can afford to stay home for at least a full week do it. I've known folks 6 days out who suddenly have an issue maybe it pain maybe it's trouble getting the liquid in. Just give yourself the time it was major surgery............ And if you decide & when you go back have a plan to get your liquids & protein in no matter what. Ok! All the Best!

@skinnyme123. Wow no paid meds. I hate taking any meds but I was glad to take my Oycodone For 5 days at home PostOp before I tried a day without successfully and remained off. Each Surgeon is different and should be basing their plan of care on your unique circumstances health status and procedure so ask your questions till you get the answers you need.

@tacycakes. If you take it by itself it not that sweet but I usually add some OJ. But it's such a small amount it shouldn't be too bad. I take a shot class which is about 1 & 1/4 ounces I a drop or 2 of OJ. By the next day I'm good. I take it once a week and it keeps me from getting blocked. Much less trying than any of the stuff your taking now and it works. Good luck !

@Smiley922Well yesterday was Day1 Puréed. I finally took the first bite around 2pm tuna, low fat mayo & cottage cheese all good & no problem drinking 30 mins before & after. It was the dinner that I regretted I made Fish Tilapia with ricotta cheese , potato creme spinach. I cut the fish into small bites before cooking and added broth I must have eaten about 1/4 cup but I didn't measure maybe it was a 1/2 cup it went down ok I chewed it well but as soon as I took a couple bites of spinach Whoa. A feeling of having food stuck, a flush discomfort my new pouch didn't like it at all. I never brought it back but I was walking around standing rubbing my chest for a good hour before I could even try a few sips of crystal light. I think that was a mild reaction- I don't want a bad reaction and I'm glad I was at home. 3 hours later I had some pudding & Greek yogurt much better. I'm going back to Protein shakes soup & tuna today. So much for worrying I will over eat. ????

    OCTOBER 2014

So today is the start of Week 3 Day 1 for Puréed food and I started like usual with a Protein Drink and Water. I've been looking forward to having tuna fish again. But I m scared too. I be loss 20 LBS since my surgery what if I go into a stall or is the reality that I lose less this week. Or what if I can't stop myself from eating just 1/2 cup at one time. I wasn't ready so I went for a walk almost 2. Miles later here I sit with 1/4 cup of tuna & 1/4 cup of cottage cheese convincing myself that I can handle it. I won't screw this up cause I want to be thin much more than I want to go back being unable to walk with out struggling and pain.

    Help after surgery?

@@HappyMama my first week was relatively uneventful. I was 2 nights in the hospital I was just so tired and had a bit of extra bleeding at an incursion site that needed a new dressing. My husband took a week of Family a Leave a Time to be home with me. He helped me set up a system for the 5 PostOp meds I had to take and basically made sure I didn't have to walk downstairs to refill my Water pitcher or get a Protein shake or lift anything 10 psd or more and reminded me to do my laps around the living room. To have him for oral support & to watch over me the first week for signs of complication was priceless. And if there had been a complication he would have gotten me to a hospital ASAP. I think the 1st 7 days you need someone even if you have 3 girlfriends take turns checking on you.
  20. @jarodErb My insurance company did not require 5 years But the 6 months & could not be any early then 25 days apart or later than 30 days apart continuous appointments with my primary was required and lots of PreOp tests. If you are having any Cardio or sleeping issues you'll need a Cardio workout and a sleep study. My surgeon required a Psychologist eval, and a Nutritionist eval, a endoscopy . I got on my own a sleep study proved I had sleep apnea, a colonoscopy and a Cardio work up just because I wanted to know the status of my body before surgery. The 6 month went by quickly and though I was inpatient at times it helped me get 90 percent of my questioned answered and help prepare me for the forever of PostOp.
