@@Forsythia No Worries best thing about BP is we all know something about this world and it gives anyone considering surgery some real life experiences to learn from. Then they can take that to their Surgeons and Primary and mixed it all together. When did you have your sleeve and how are you doing?
-
Thanks@@Forsythia for correcting me. I spent more time researching the Lapband & VGS once I learned malabsorption would be an issue and they would reconfigure ny intestines I forgot about the bypass as a option for me.
-
You can search on YouTube for videos of the surgery not an expert on bypass but I believe it's reduced into a small pouch with the larger segment removed. Then the pouch is connected directly to lower intestine. Here's a graphic. I know folks who are happy with their bypass.
-
@jeniker3. No one can tell you what's the right procedure for YOU. I did months of research and went to several Info sessions before I decided when I went in & met with my surgeon. Last year at this time I attended my first info session and just knew I would have a Lap Band the least invasive but on Oct 14 I had the Vertical Gastric Sleeve and have been so happy with my decision. I read Al Rokers book "never Going Back" "Fighting Weight by Kahilah Ali & the Big Book on Gastric Sleeve" my favorite for medical facts the Ultimate Gastric Sleeve Success. I also researched the background of several Surgeons before decided who I felt most comfortable with. Both The Bypass the most intrusive and the Sleeve are major surgery's requiring full anesthesia. And the surgery is only part of the process you must make a lifelong commitment to healthy eating and exercise. For me I had tried many of diets before and exercise and lost before only to gain it back plus more. bariactric Surgery is different its changes your whole life. Choose your surgeon & procedure carefully. Ask all your questions now

@atfinallyaloser. Glad you were able to speak to Surgeon & get soup down. Wishing you a resolution on Friday. Feel better!
-
@@finallyaloser I would go to the ER your symptoms are a sign of something wrong. At 8 weeks out it could be a few things. The ER cases should be few which means you get Triaged quickly by a RN & see the Doc soon. Better to have them diagnose it as nothing wrong then to have a bigger problem later. They'll likely take an X-ray and give you an IV among other things to resolve it. Don't wait till the Rush Hour in the morning when everyone comes in. Hope you feel better soon let us know how your doing.
-
@@finallyaloser does your surgeon have a emergency call number. If so call ASAP. If not go to the ER you may be dehydrated and need emergency fluids. Are you able to get liquids down? Which procedure did you have & how long ago?
-
Yes & I love popcorn but no more than a handful which fills me up. When I tried more my pouch let me know it was a bad idea
-
@dc0520. I don't get hungry -certainly like I did pre-surgery. I do from time to time get head hungry like I see too many food commercials and I decide I want something crunchy or sweet. Now I choose Greek yogurt or popcorn. And if I exercise that day I can usually get pass it without eating. By the way I turn down the sound on commercials or speed thru them when I TIVO. My bigger problem is not feeling hungry & forgetting to eat & ending up with feeling light headed dizzy or getting a headache because of missing a meal. I go straight for the Protein usually a shake to ease the feelings then when my pouch calm down I get a meal in. One of my favorite outcomes in addition to loosing the lbs 47.7 to date is learning what hunger truly is.

@Luna222. Sorry to hear about your Fatty Liver diagnosis - your mentioning it prompted me to Google it. ( See a snapshot from WebMD) I've been a little worry about some sharp dull pain in my upper abdomen I had a few weeks after my VSG. Thanks fully the pain went away as I increased my liquid intake. But I'm interested to see in January what my 3 month blood work says. I've been sad/ frustrated that my weight lost though steady has settled into about 2LBS a week. But after reading about Bariatric surgery & Fatty Liver Disease I will embrace my 2 lbs loss. I don't weigh more than once a week trying to focus more on how great I feel after I walk 3-4 miles. Or how I feel walking without pain and taking steps without getting out of breath. And yes I'm looking forward to finally zipping up the 10 year old jeans I've kept in my closet that I've been determined to wear again after starting countless diets. This Time will Be Different because I'm looking at the rest of my life - making healthy choices in food & exercise that help me Win my life back. Wishing all my October Surgery Gladiators Good Health & Steady a Weight Loss

Wow-Wow-Wow-Wow. You All look AMAZING!!!! This weekend will mark my 8 weeks PostOp but I still have another 10LBS to go before I catch up to you All! Congrats Gladiators! I'm feeling good today I finally made the transition from outdoor walking to Mall Walking. I've gone 2 days in a row & while I miss my hills & steps I find I can do 4 miles easily given the whole mall is a mile and all flat. I could tell the difference yesterday I stayed away from bread without a problem & slept even better. Today I got up scraped off the ice & about an inch of snow and drove over leaving my coat in the car. This weeks goal is 4 days of walking 4 miles & then add a day and go for 5 miles. Still working on adding weights & sit-ups - I'm beginning to see loose skin in my stomach. Not looking forward to that but that's what spans is for right. My weekly holiday challenge weight in tomorrow so keeping my fingers crossed on a lower number. Re- liquids I still hover between 42 & 48 oz a day not sure I'll make it to 64 during the winter but I've added sugar free hot chocolate & Tea to help. Best to All

My NUT told me that if I eat chicken stick to dark meat which I did at first. Over the weekend I tried a few bites of white meat & pasta with a sauce and was able to eat it. This week I'm really struggling with trying to exercise indoors we've had so much rain i haven't walked outside for days. I know the lack of exercise is why I'm been eating bread & popcorn. I'm not hungry but boredom also has the effect of leading me to eat the wrong things. I went back and read my journal with my PreOp notes and that helped me cut back the starch today but got to get out & walk tomorrow.
-
@Bronxmerci. She's on my mind this Sunday as well. Sending Prayers her way.
-
218.6. Another loss But due to less exercise this week felt harder to achieve even at under 600 calories a day Trying to add backup exercising to my outdoor walking in the reality that winter weather. Plus increase food intake -more protein & water.
-
@Beni. Keep trying & you'll find a exercise routine that works for you! I love walking outside I did 2 miles today but other days I walk 3 miles and on the weekend 4 miles. I conquered my fear of walking in the cold 28- 32 degrees but I know when the snow sticks & its get really cold I will need something else & so far mall walking hasn't attracted me. But I know I need a back up because exercise has to be several days a week to get to my weight loss goal & my goal of winning at maintenance. I continue to lose each week but I know I have per my surgeon 12 to 18 months max to lose this weight before my body fights to hold on to every inch. Come on Gladiators We Can Do It!
-
Congrats Beni on the Weight Loss! Fantastic GONE. Hope you can move to solid and diverse foods soon. Have you added regular exercise? What type. I need to add weights per my surgeon but haven't yet still enjoying long 3-4 mile walks most of all.
-
@Bronxmerci. Hoping you got the care needed to resolve the blood lost.
-
@@Bronxmerci Go to Hospital. You need some tests to determine source of blood and measure output. Don't wait for your call back. Take their number with you.

@@Bronxmerci you look fantastic! So glad your D/c from hospital and so much better. Stay on the road to health!
