About Me
Mountain Girl here. Seems as though as far as i can look back in time, i was heavy. Constantly a part of my daily thoughts. Thoughts of how in the world can i get this weigh off and for good.
Yes, tried just about every diet. Unfortunately Obesity runs on both sides of my family, genetically.
When i was in college i was probably my healthiest. I was a part of a gym and also doing some clothes modeling on the side as well as cooking in a restaurant. Always on the go.
When i turned 30 i was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism. I was gaining weight at a high speed and had energy of a slug. Once the discovered it was my thyroid i had gained 55 pounds.
I got married when i was 32, then had my child at 34. I weighed 374 when she was born. My all time high. I got Gestational Diabetes when pregnant with my daughter and had to give myself insulin shots. The Diabetes left when she was born. But only a prelude to what was to come.
When i turned 40 i was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. I had heard of a new way to lose as in Low Carb. I jumped on that wagon for 7 years and got down to a weight of 214.
I was able to maintain the weight loss for seven years.
In 2009 i walked away from my 20 year marriage. Which put me on a path to living in the City, a much bigger City that i was use to living in. I'm a believer that everything happens for a reason. This was one of those times.
In the Fall of 2012 I was diagnosed with Stage 1 Ductal Breast Cancer. I had two Lumpectomy surgeries and 36 Radiation Treatments and am now in remission. They were able to save my breast.
Before i detected my cancer i had been tired a lot and blaming it on low thyroid issues which lab test had confirmed. That went on for about a year and a half. Just long enough for the weight to pile back on that i had worked so hard to losing.
I was having weird things happening like falling asleep at my computer and having hallucinations. I finally decided to go i for a sleep study and then was diagnosed with Acute Severe Sleep Apnea.
The study had revealed that i hadn't reached REM sleep at all and that i stopped breathing 129 times an hour. I opted for the full mask CPAP machine and i slept with it every night from that day on. It saved my life. I would of been one of those statistics that you read about in the paper. "Died of natural causes".
That was the waker upper for me. I had to do something before my health and mobility put me down and under for good.
Oh yes, that's another thing, i have DJD ( degenerating joint disease) in my hips. My right hip being the worst and is up for surgery to have it replaced. Once i get the weight down, about 80 more, i'll get it replaced.
I miss riding bikes and horses and simply getting off the sidelines of life and getting back into the main stream of it.
So i have been on a mission to focus on me and my health. Making the decision to get the Vertical Sleeve Procedure was one of the best ones ever. It's going to save my life just like the last two decisions i made with my life with Cancer and Sleep Apnea.
It was my gut instinct that got me to this point. You know what they say about gut instinct don't you? That's God talking to you. So best to stay in tune with your body.
So that's pretty much how i got here. I do have a special man in my life now that has seen me through all i have endured these last 3 1/2 years. He's my main cheer leader and has been there for me and continues to choose to. So lots of support on the home front.
Here's to all of us losers on our way to Optimal health. Physically, Spiritually and Emotionally.
Sincerely, Sherri AKA Motherearth
