August Bandsters How are you Doing So Far

Hi y'all! I was banded on Monday, the 27th. I just flew back from Mexico today. I feel good overall. Of course, I am still on Clear liquids. Feeling a little hunger, but not too bad. Slight headache, and some pressure where the band is.... I think from gas build up. Been walking a lot to avoid that shoulder pain, success so far. I can' wait to start eating yogurt! And my Protein shakes. I think this will give me more energy. I am very tired right now due to not eating. On a more positive note, my doctor was awesome! Dr. Lopez-Corvala. The hospital was great, the staff was great. I had a good time. I even got released to go shopping yesterday! I feel no anxiety like I thought I would. I'm also down 10 pounds in just 4 days. yippi!!!!!!

    Mexico...here I come!!!!! (I think!!)

I had my band in Mexico on Monday and it was great! I went to a different doc than you, but my doc has done surgeries there in Monterrey too. You'll be fine! I would think about the nicest hospital you've ever been to in the states and then add a few points. Our hospitals suck here compared to down there. Don't worry, everything will be great. PS - I also went alone and left my 11 month old behind with my mom... I was fine!

Why Can't I Get Anyone To Help Me??

Sorry to hear your frustration. Don't know anything about Ill, but I live in Cali and it doesn't matter what insurance you have, it's all a pain in the you know what! My best friend is her own advocate. She's doing all the work herself. Dont' get frustrated over being on the phone for two hours, there are many more hours to come. Just keep it up and set aside an hour or two a day to be onthe phone to do your research. Don't take no for an answer either. If you truely need the surgery, it will come to you. Keep up the calls, and congratulations on your new part time job! haha

    Who did you tell?

I totally understand why you don't want to tell anybody. I'm right there with ya! I will be banded tomorrow. I told the people who I eat out with... close friends and family. Friends I see every other month, none of their business. As for work, I told my supervisor for the same reasons, and 3 others at work who have been struggling with weight loss as well. They know it's secret. Only tell who you want to tell. I am going to say, "I cut down on my portions, calories and alcohol" ~ the rest is up to their imagination... ! haha... Dana
  9. :clap2::clap2::clap2:Hi there! I am being banded tomorrow! I am so excited. I know 7 others are flying into San Diego to be banded by Dr. Juan A. Lopez-Corvala tomorrow as well, and just by chance is there anybody out there who falls in this catagory? It would be really cool to know somebody in cyber space that will be banded the same time as me! Anyway, wish me luck! I'll be back to tell my story on Friday!

    Were you banded in Mexico?

Thank you so much. Last night I sat up until 3:00 in the morning searching all of the posts on this site regarding Dr. Lopez. I read that 3 people on this site were highly disatisfied with their outcome. It scared me to death because all I had heard was good things about him. I was sitting here actually ready to cancel my trip. Thank you so much for your post. I will post my experience and results as soon as I can. Congratulations on your new life! I will be there shortly. Dana

    Were you banded in Mexico?

I am trying to talk to people who have been operated on by Dr. Lopez Corvala. I have surgery on Monday in TJ with this doctor. I've heard great things, but mostly from people who work for him. So, what did you think? Dana
  20. I did notice some lopsidedness when your arms were raised, but with the arms down, you REALLY have to look for it. If you didn't post these pictures on this website for the reasons you did, I'd just think they were perfect boobs! Really, they look just fine and if it were me I would not put my body through another surgery for such a minor issue. Congratulations! I can't wait to have mine done when I lose my weight.

    Banding set for August 27!!

Hi there! I'm with ya! Aug 27th! Dr. Juan A. Lopez-Corvala in TJ, Mexico. I am so nervous and so excited. I am fearful also of not waking up after surgery. I am a single mom of an 11 month old boy and am wondering if going to a foreign country is the most responsible thing to do. I've 'weighed' the options and all arrows go south... south of the border that is. I am also nervous that my love for food will be taken away from me and I will be left all alone, on a desert island with just banana leaves and coconuts. I wish luck to all and wish me luck too. Hopefully all of us will give a nice update on here by next Friday. That would be nice!:whoo:
  23. OK, ya'll are scaring me! I have surgery on Monday... I thought you were suppose to eat protein! What CAN I eat? What a normal breakfast, lunch, dinner???? Thanks! Dana
  24. I am having surgery on Monday, but I've been a total freak about researching everything including the subject of slipage. This is what I understand: You are allowed to have liquids for the first 30 days and shouldn't be concerned about calories during this time. The important thing is that you are getting nutrition during this time and are even encouraged to included fruit juices, yogurt, Soups, applesauce, etc. The fact that you ground up a few saltines in your Soup, no big. During this time, I've heard that it is totally normal to feel hungry and to feel like you have no resistance. That's because you are eating liquids. Once 30 days has past and your tummy is all healed, you start on soft foods then move to solids. (slowly) The faster you get to solids the faster you will feel more satified and not hungry. **** Please, if I am incorrect, CORRECT ME! This is only information I have obtained on the web over the past few months from doctors, nurses and LapBand pts. **** I am also under the impression that your new 'pouch' is very small. And if you fill it up, it will expand. That is slippage. You don't want to over fill it, ever. It will cause problems that you don't want to deal with like the possibility of another surgery to correct the slippage. It makes perfect sense if you think about it. This band isn't completely tight because you have to create a passage for the food to flow through (stoma), so if you over eat, you could cause unwanted problems. I think it's best to ask your doctor these questions and ask lots of 'why' questions. I am still in my research phase and will be for many months to come, but I wish you all the luck in the world and I know you will be just fine. Wish me luck too!
