Why Do I get so Scared before Each Fill?
Cocoabean replied to GhostDog's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi GhostDog, Do you take all your medications in one bog handful? I used to take them all at once. Now I have to spread them out a bit and take them one at a time. I think as we get closer to proper restriction we get more nervous at fills. I was overfilled once and had to go back for a slight unfill. When I returned for the next fill I was very nervous about it, but I hit my sweet spot! -

I'd be interested in where my choices would be. Mine is to the left of my belly button by about 3 inches and a little below my waist. The only thing I don't like about its location is that sometimes the waistband of my pants bothers it. Low-rise pants are fine and looser are good. But if at all tight and higher waisted, ugh. -
Dr. George Mueller - Dr. Mueller Rocks!
Cocoabean replied to SD-MTN-MAN's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Glad to hear things went well. I went to Dr. Mueller's seminar. I liked him very much. In the end I went with Dr. Callery. But Dr. Mueller was very impressive, too! -

JaxNole, Def NOT the same man, but very similar! Mine is 5'9" and 175! NOT solid muscle either...Teehee! Oh my gosh, I'd have flipped out to go that long without food. I can so relate to the headache! Poor you! I'd have been demanding a side trip to a smoothie place, or telling him I'd be back after going to get one, or SOMETHING. Hopefully it will get better with time, as it has here! He's really great about things now. Even when I have a problem with pilot error and get something stuck. He is very understanding and supportive. Total turn around from my pre-band days! -

Hi Everyone! Well, I had an interesting day! As I was getting ready to go home, I stopped by a friend's desk for a chat. I'd been standing there for about 30 minutes when suddenly I felt hot, then I started feeling a little lightheaded, then a little faint. I sat down, got VERY faint, apparently went very pale, and felt nauseous, and ready to pass out. If not for having sat down, I would have. My friend called the nurse (we have one on staff). Who came up and took my blood pressure - 90/50. Yeah, a tad bit low. She got me laying down, I drank some OJ, and rested a bit. The color came back to my face and I got to feeling better. So, that was no fun. I see my endocrinologist on Friday, I think we'll have a bit of a chat about it. Maybe I can get him to kick up my thyroid hormone dosage. I am also slightly anemic as of my last blood test a few weeks ago. So, I'm not sure what this is all about. I have done this three times since last September when I started on a new medication for migraines. Always after I have been standing for a prolonged period. Really strange to go from needing medication for high blood pressure to worrying about my pressure dropping and passion out! Dang! Bobbie Thinking of you for the interview tomorrow!! -
Lap-Bands and Airport Security
Cocoabean replied to Drasan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh, I didn't mean from a metal detector standpoint. I meant just isn't there a bit of metal in the port. The post I quoted said it was all plastic, but I don't think so. I recall there was a bit of metal at the bottom of the port. A tiny bit that would not set of any detectors. I did a 3 month jury duty without setting of the detectors there that are much more sensitive than airports (or so the bailiffs told me). -

Doesn't the port have a tiny bit of metal on the bottom side of it? I remember looking at one in my surgeon's office. I recall it as being mostly plastic and silicone, but there was a small piece of metal where the needle would hit at the far side of it. -
Anyone had or having out-patient surgery???
Cocoabean replied to NurseShay's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was approved for an overnight stay, but was released at 5:30pm. -
I'm with MrsCabes. I did Medifast for my pre-op. I had also tried it before that as a true weight loss plan. It was not good. I did lose weight on the pre-op. 8 pounds in 2 weeks. If allowed to do the real program, you are allowed one "lean and green" meal each day. The food is very bland, the portions tiny. But it works.

There are other medical conditions for which people have ports. I believe I read somewhere that AP has an information card that is part of the packaging of the band. My surgeon did not give it to me, though. So I could be wrong. I read that some people use the card to allow them to order off of a child's menu. You could certainly ask for your surgeon to put a note on a prescription with info about the port and tube. I've flown several times and had no problems, but haven't done the full body scan. Interesting thought to use a banded person as a mule with drugs in the tube...hhmmmm Prolly wouldn't hold enough to be worthwhile. -
Problem throwing away food
Cocoabean replied to finding me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It does take getting over. Another thing I do, it also helps me cut down on the amout eaten, is at work I bring some extra food containers. If I bring in something like what you had, I immediately put half away for the next day. I don't mix it up, or put it on the crackers. I don't know if you have access to a refrigerator, but something to think about. I do the same with frozen meals and take away, also. -
I love my mother-in-law, but...
Cocoabean replied to adagray's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I like Heathan's response. It was going to be my suggestion. This is exactly the reason I did not tell my MIL. I told her I get migraines, now I get asked about it nearly every time I see her, just for something to talk about. I think she is truly concerned, but I don't care to talk about it every time I see her, thanks. You could also say that you weren't comfortable talking about your weight when you were gaining, so now you aren't comfortable talking about it while you are losing. Why is it OK to ask about losing anyway? I once asked someone if he was losing weight. Imaine my mortification when his response was that yes, he was....due to cancer. (True story). He died a few months later. Or, just throw a number out there...say 10 this time, 25 next time, 5 the time after that. My MIL has never had a weight problem, but when my niece (her granddaughter) and I were doing a weight loss program together, she had the gall to try and drag us to a scale to see what we weighed--someone else fell for it and she announced their weight to the entire family. Yeah, we were NOT going for that. I think my response would be that I am not getting on the scale any more. My weight is not where the focus is, my eating habits are. I was getting obsessed with the number on the scale, so I put it away. LAP-BAND is all about being healthy not hitting a certain weight. So, thanks for asking, my blood pressure is normal! Yay!!! -

Hi Everyone! Wowser! The US Geological Survey upgraded the quake to a 7.2! Our home was rocking for about 45 seconds. DH was in the shower at the time. Butters had his girlfriend Stella over, the were OK with things until stuff started rattling, then they were not happy. I was wondering if Don, my hubby, could feel it (he never seems to feel them and gets all kinds of upset when I report them), and then realized he was stading in a glass coffin (corner shower stall). As things kept shaking, I realized that over my head behind the couch is a brass sculpture of seagulls and perhaps that was not the best place for me to be. So I took off down the hall. As I went into the bedroom, hubby was jetting out of the bedroom, soaking wet, having just exited the shower. We nearly collided with the house STILL shaking, his eyes the size of dinner plates. "CAN YOU FEEL THAT?!?" We both yelled at the same time. The shaking in San Diego went on for about 45 seconds. Which in earthquake standards is a very long time. Our pool was sloshing around, our hanging lamp was swinging back and forth, and things were rattling and making noises. I felt about 3 more aftershocks within the hour following. I read this morning that one man was killed in Mexico near the epicenter when his house collapsed on him. There was more damage in Mexico that on the US side of the border. I guess for me, earthquakes are no biggie, the threat is always there. I am more afraid of tornadoes for you in the midwest. I have posted a map below from the US Geological Survey's web site. The red are quakes that have happened in the last hour, blue the last 24 hours, and yellow the last week. The size of the squares has to do with the magnitude, the bigger the stronger. The San Andreas Fault Runs from NW of San Francisco to the Gulf of California (the water between Baja California and Mainland Mexico). It has been extremely active!! Earthquakes.bmp -

It's funny, Jax, for me, it was the opposite, my hubby felt he was my food police before my surgery. Since then he says, you've been so successful, I figure you know what you are doing now. We had some doozy arguments over food before. He has never been a chow hound. I could eat him under the table, and I always got hungry hours before he did. He always felt that if he weren't hungry, then I should not be hungry. If he were hungry, then I could eat. Through this process he has seen that now I am eating when I need food, and I am eating what my body needs. He is now OK with my needs and choices. It is soooooo nice! -
A question for those who have been banded a while
Cocoabean replied to Froggie D's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Jason, My biggiest sticker is white meat chicken. I don't even try any more. Also very soft breads, ground beef, and tomato skin can cause issues for me. Everyone is different though, so you'll have to learn what works for you or not. As denouement said earlier, (sorry I am not sure which pronoun to use-so am choosing one) he has a hard time with many foods. I like my band fairly loose. It gives me a wider choice of foods. I was overfilled once and I could barely get anything down. I have about 5 or 5.5cc in a 10cc band. With that level I can eat just about anything, just in smaller portions than I used to. Others prefer to have theirs tighter and have less choices. It is a lot of personal preference. And, there are those that even with less restriction still have troubles. The list below is from lapband.com Dry meat Peanut Butter Shrimp Untoasted or doughy bread Pasta or rice Fibrous vegetables (e.g., corn, celery and asparagus) Dried fruit Coconut Popcorn Citrus fruits Nuts Hope this helped. -
Hey thanks!!
Goal is kinda up in the air. I am at the upper end of normal BMI and I am tickled with that! My primary care doc wants me to lose about 10 more pounds--that is the number I have on my tracker as a goal. He says that would put me where research shows I'd be the healthiest I could be. My sureon said with work I could get to 130..yikes! Last time I was at 130, I was a crazy fool who was obsessive about every bite and every calorie burned with exercise. Yes, that was pre-banding :-) I was a size 4 at the time, too.
So, for the moment, I am hanging where I am and seeing what my body wants to do. My blood pressure is good, my sugar is good, my cholesterol is good. I am not on any meds for those, oh yeah!!!
I am happy with that!
At the moment, I am still sort of losing, but veeerrrryyyy sloooooowwwly. We're talking a pound every few months.
We'll see what the band journey has in store for me as time goes on! It's been very positive for me so far!

Anne, all I can say is OMG, SF Popsicles? That's it, you are doomed! :bored: Hee hee, teasing you, of course! I could think of far worse things to binge on. However, the act itself is one to work on. Glad you felt you could come here for support and "absolution." Ok, I am off to lunch with the hubby. Here's hoping today goes better than yesterday! -

What can I take for allergies??
Cocoabean replied to stamich0830's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A quick call to your doctor's office should be able to clear the question up. I take Pseudofed when my sinuses are stuffy. The pills are tiny. Since the band doesn't mess with absorption, as long as the pills aren't horse chokers that will get stuck on the way down, I don't see a problem taking what you usually take. -
Now you're making my mouth water! We love the Marietta's chain, yummy!

priorities are priorities :bored: I love Mexican food, too! Sure can't eat as much as I used to, but that is a good thing! Tee hee!
