Eating More Carbs = Craving Even More Carbs
ljgh73 replied to Bufflehead's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hahaha. This is funny. Onions set my carb craving off. Doesn't mean it does for others. also it's sweet onions and red onions that are the worst culprits. Best of luck! -
Congratulations!!! I hope that smile lasts for days. Just imagine all those "little" things you will be able to do with your little guy. Not to mention you will really want to do!

Good Morning, I hope everyone is doing well. My SD was the 11th and as of this morning I am down 15lbs. I'm feeling pretty good. I live in a small community so the first week after surgery I was required to stay in town. I came home Monday the 17th and with yesterday being my first day in my actual home I found difficulty getting enough fluids in and I didn't eat enough. I ate three meals. So I am pledging to myself and anyone who reads this. I will focus on: 1) drinking my fluids daily reaching the requested 40 and shooting for 50 by the 25th. 2) eating every 2-3 hours. 3) taking all medications as directed 4) logging all that goes in my mouth with a focus on fluids and Protein. Again goals are to be completed by the 25th any additional accomplishments are welcomed but not required by me. Now that it's written and public let us see if I can make it true! Thanks All

I'm 6 days post-op. I'm feeling pretty good. No pain meds. Focusing on water intake. But I have this weird thought in the back of my head that I never had before surgery. "What if this doesn't work?" Really feel crazy over here. I'm not sure what I'm expecting but dang that thought is ticking me off and bumming me out.

I am 8 days post op!! I was just wondering what good you are eating?? I am on full liquids till tomorrow then I get to start some cottage cheese, loose mashed potatoes and yogurt!!! I can not wait!!! I am so hungry!! I feel disappointed cause I really wS hoping I wouldn't feel hunger anymore like lots of others! I had minestrone soup puréed. I felt like I was in heaven. Greek yogurt is filling and satisfying. Soft scrambled eggs never tasted better. Sugar-free jello and applesauce have been a go to right now. I wouldn't doubt once you get off liquids you will fill right up. It has actually taken me an hour to get 4 oz in. I'm not hungry at all. I hope you will feel the same once you move past the liquid diet.

Good Morning All, I am 5 days post-op. Things are good. Stomach muscles are still sore but walking upright and normally. Water has been my biggest problem. I was a huge water drinking approximately a gallon a day pre surgery and now struggling to get 30 oz a day. I've found I have tried to drink to soon after eating and it causes stomach upset. Nothing that doesn't pass within about 20 minutes but not comfortable. I also realized yesterday that warm light tea goes down very easily with less pouch discomfort. I'm going to focus on warm water intake this weekend and see if that helps. Seems odd as I was a huge ice water drinker. Definitely learning new things about me and wanting to share so we can all be successful!! Good luck everyone.

I survived! Stomach muscles are super sore. I had some broth and jello. Went done well. Up walking around pretty good.

From Surgeon appointment to surgery date!
ljgh73 replied to Amanda729's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It only took a couple of days once the insurance actually got the information but it took about 3 weeks to get all the information back in forth. I have UHC. I was hoping for a Feb 13th surgery date, my final appointment was on 1/8. I ended up being offered a Feb 18th date but opted to wait till March 4. You'll probably want to stay on top of your doctor's office and your insurance to get an approval that quickly. I agree!! Stay on the doctors office as well as call your insurance company. The number is on your card and it is YOUR insurance. Sometimes you can wait on hold a bit but I spoke to them a number of times because surgeons office said one thing and insurance would say another like "we sent it to insurance" them I'd hear "we never got the information" I can't imagine how painful it would have been to sit and wait only receiving information from one side. UGH. I was told by insurance they respond within two business days once paperwork is received. Problem for me was inaccurate information was sent and I had to run circles. I did it though. I hope no one else has to deal with denials and appeals. -
I don't know if you are a religious person, but I hope you appreciate that you're in my prayers. Everything is gonna be great. And since I'm on Monday too, I'll let ya know how mine went. We got this LOL I appreciate the fact I'm in your prayers! I do have a strong faith. I've been saying plenty those of us having surgery Monday (I met the person ahead of me on the schedule so now there is three of us), my daughter and many here in these forums. We do have this. I'm sure my first post will be drug induced so I apologize in advance for how jumbled it will be. LolThank you.

did anyone have a food funeral?
ljgh73 replied to jtickle's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't think of it as a food funeral but in a way I guess you are right. Yes I did for me it was nachos, wings, deep fried pickles and beer. I said good-bye. I had the meal with a friend of mine that we have been through so many of life's challenges together. We discussed those times and what we could to as substitutions for eating. It was an enjoyable evening, but we both agreed we look forward to trying out some of our other possibilities. I had to laugh when out to lunch with a couple other friends earlier in the week. In jest, one said "instead of eating you can take up knitting." We got a good chuckle out of that. As I appreciate the talents and creativity of those that can knit I am not one of those people. I'll will be searching for alternatives. -
Good luck with your surgery! I'm sure you'll do great. I am also a single mommy, having surgery on Wednesday. I have the same worries. Just think of how much more we'll get to do with out munchkins when we are at a healthier weight. Keep us posted! The thoughts of what my daughter and I will do is exactly what drives me! Thanks!! Best of luck to you. Thank you for reminding me I am not alone.

Surgery Monday. I live in a small community so I'm in Anchorage where I am having surgery staying in a hotel. I wish I could be in my own bed with the comforts of my own home. I slept a little bit tonight with my 9 year old by my side. I'm nervous. I'm all she has which is a big part of why I am doing this whole thing but getting scared because should something happen I'm all she has. I'm sure things will be just fine but I have had complications with surgeries in the past and that thought lingers in the back of my mind. I would love to spring forward one month instead of one hour tonight just to get to the "rest of my life" part. (Also to miss tomorrow's bowel prep day. )

@ljgh73 wow! A video, that's putting you on the spot and I'm glad I didn't have to do that. And I'm gonna be really honest here. If they would have asked me that, I'd have said....because I just want to be skinny, then healthy LOL. I just went to my preop appt yesterday and then to the hospitals for a meeting with the anesthesiologist and since then, my worry kind of faded. I'm ready dde0a. Good luck to you, I wanna hear about your experience. We can be each others soundboard and support. I'm game!! Pre-op today. One more EKG, one more PFT, one more support group, one more set of labs. Now I get to wear a bracelet all weekend that is my ID band if I need a blood transfusion. I have a feeling it will be a long weekend! I hope Monday comes quick. Glad I will have some people here that have an idea how it all feels.

How do you see your weightloss?
ljgh73 replied to bloreorbust's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Your entire response sounds amazingly cool!!thank you for sharing. I'm just getting started, surgery Monday, but I'm planning on looking at this post a number of times in hopes I can closely relate in time. Thank You! -
@Mclosin my surgery is the 10th as well. It still wasn't feeling real until yesterday when I had my History and physical appointment. I was asked on video why I wanted the surgery, what I'd say to myself in 6 mos if I was having a hard time and what if I died. I tell you it was hard to answer those questions though I imagine I have asked myself the same questions a thousand times. But just like dreaming said, if we could have done it by ourselves we would have already, many many times. This is the tool to help us do it and help us keep it off this time. We likely decided a long time ago to have WLS we are just now doing it for ourselves. Best of luck and a wishing a speedy recovery for you!

Eating More Carbs = Craving Even More Carbs
ljgh73 replied to Bufflehead's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Please address the issue. It is not uncommon. I told my Dr, Surgeon, Dietitian, and Psychologist. They all said they hear it all the time my Primary Dr said he would bet batter than 50% of the people he assists for weight management deal with the same problem. It won't stop your surgery. I think it helps to let people know. I find it helps me and I agree it seems like one carb to many can lead to a landslide. I have to be careful with onions on my salad, red onions can lead me to severe sugar cravings and getting back on track is a pain in the butt. -
Confessions of a Pre Op Shopaholic
ljgh73 replied to Mellie May's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for the tip Mellie!! I just ordered the mini pop off of amazon. I think that will be helpful great idea. -
One thing I have noticed on this site is different surgeons have different protocols. Mine was a low carb diet starting two weeks before surgery. I'm seeing everything from liquid diet to not much more than clean eating. I had the same feeling about a few meals, I felt sad I may never eat it again but clearly eating it wasn't helping me much either. So hopefully if I have issues with some foods it won't feel too bad since I will be a much healthier version of myself.

I'm still in a shock mode like it really isn't going to happen. Don't get me wrong I'm doing my low carb diet prep. H&P Wed maybe it will seem more real. Friday pre-op and registration with the hospital maybe then. I don't think it will really hit me until I'm in my room after surgery and I hear the surgeon say the procedure was a success. I agree, it helps reading what others are going through. Glad to know someone else is on the same day as I am! Thanks for the reply.

Hello All!! I'm new and have been working toward surgery since feb 2013. Many bumps in the road but my surgery is set for March 10. I look forward to following a few of these posts and see how everyone is doing. Best of luck to everyone!
