  1. Sillyolme1 I'm scheduled 4/15. My practice does Protein shakes for 2 weeks post-op then only "real" protein starting in week 3. Lactose free skin milk, yogurt, cottage cheese, canned tuna or salad, 1/2 egg.

    NO FUN!

I'm still 10 days RNY pre-op, but I had my gall bladder out on 2/14 and I'm still oozing. I only had one belly button hole but it's still leaking. I walk around with gause in there. I can tell you that it's getting better slowly but surely. So have faith, your body will heel!
  3. I just found out I will be using this after surgery. Trying to see if anyone has used one.
  4. I saw this on facebook. Made me go- huh? http://www.mindbodygreen.com/0-13018/5-things-i-miss-about-weighing-more-than-300-pounds.html
  5. I was told no lifting for 6 weeks as well. No pushing heavier things either. We even had the discussion about carrying loads of laundry up and down the steps and mowing the lawn with a push mower. Do you have some type of "light duty" or "restricted duty" status at work? When I worked for an airline that was an option. It meant we worked but didn't move luggage, didn't shut or open airplane doors etc.

    Scared of stretch marks

Water, moisturizers and exercise. The rest is up to genes, I know my stretch marks will be around forever. Although I'm heavier than during both my pregnancies, the stretch marks from both are not going anywhere. I had two 9 pounders and my stomach was obnoxiously huge. My skin didn't recover 20 years ago, and they are still prevalent now despite my stomach being more less than 1/2 the size. I decided it was just not something I was going to worry about it because in reality, this old girl is never wearing a 2 piece bathing suit or a shirt that shows my belly. But excess skin? Worried about that knowing it will happen whether I worry or I don't. For me it's arms and legs. I can cover the middle and the a good bra will take care of the girls. I'm trying really hard not to think about it. My energy can be spent on things I can control.
  7. I journal to track how often I eat and how long it takes me. It's painful to write down every bite. I've been doing it for a month and I can see my bad habits changing. No more diet coke, no more Easter candy, a drastic reduction in carbs etc. I have a cheap steno pad. Don't think of it as a chore. Think of it as a tool. It's something I have to do post op too.
  8. I think you will find all kind of experiences here. I've had many ups and downs with IBS and I've experienced a wide range of symptoms. When I eat a high carb high fat diet, I'm miserable and spend an awful lot of time in the bathroom. When I eat healthy, I'm stable. For me, the hope is that post op I will eat healthier long term which should have a positive effect on the IBS.

    Pre-op smeop

My surgeon believes only 3 days of clear liquids will get you ready for surgery. I tell you this because it's possible any number of pre-op regiments work. So stop beating yourself up, stay the heck away from the pie, and move on!!!! Remember pie will make you dump! Your new pouch will help you avoid cheating, unlike your current stomach. It will be much harder to cheat which may help you break the bad habit. you gotta break the bad habits because the pouch won't do it for you long term.

    How Long off work?

This scares me. I am physically going back after 8 days. That being said, I'm a college professor and I can sit or stand, lecture or have my classes do group work or watch something. The biggest issue is going to be the drive. On day 8 it's 20 minutes but day 9 it's a 45 minute drive. I had my gall bladder out on a Friday and drove the 45 minutes to teach on Monday. I felt like crap and didn't want to be there but I survived. Fingers crossed I can do the same.
  11. That's a seriously long list of tests! You are a real trooper.
  12. First appointment to surgery date is 9 weeks but only because I had already met the 6 month diet required in Maryland. Insurance requirements are usually what dictates the time.
  13. I'm excited for you. I'm 2 weeks away.
  14. I got my PCP and Cardiologist clearance today. I'm set for 4/15 which is 3 weeks from today!
  15. Anyone have any good facial regiments that make you feel young? I know wrinkles seems like a weird thing to be thinking about 2 1/2 weeks pre-op, but here I sit. I know most of us are going to have excess skin. I guess I look at that issue differently than wrinkles. My fat face already has squint and forehead lines. What's going to happen when it thins out? I need to find some kind of daily routine and products to help me not look older after WLS!!! We see the commercials all the time but all know those famous beautiful people are being paid. I need something for a real person who doesn't have a dermatologist or endless money.

  19. That's most definitely a doctor question. Does your surgeon know you were in the hospital recently? Does your surgeon require your PCP or Endocrinologist give you clearance? And if so, will they give you clearance?

    How do i refocus....

I think for many of us being overweight in some ways gave us a "free pass" on many things. People didn't expect anything from us because of our weight. Many of us also used it as an excuse for so many things. So as cupcake said, are you afraid of success? I kinda of am. Being fat was almost like a security blanket and when I lose all this weight, what will people expect of me? That's scary. My nutritionist asked me what I planned to do when I got stressed or upset since turning to food was no longer going to be an option. I taught myself to knit. Well, youtube taught me to knit. I'm not very good at the moment but I hope to improve. Maybe find a charity that needs hats and scarfs. Do something good with my hands. Think about new things you can do to place the focus off the food.

    Welcome

Seems like there are a lot of band to bypass folks out there. My surgeon doesn't even want to do the bands anymore. Think positive. I know some of the post op boards are scary but more of the information is positive.
  23. where do you get an Unjury sample pack from?
  24. I went to my cardiologist today for clearance. His one piece of advise was: MOVE. Move a lot. Move more than you think you need to in order to avoid the blood clots. I got the same advice from my surgeon in February when I had my gall bladder removed. Keep moving. What did your surgeon and/or PCP say when you asked them about the risk? I'm also 3 weeks out. I know there is a risk of blood clots but there was a risk when I had my gall bladder out. When both my parents had knee replacements. When my grandmother had a hip replacement. When my friend had her double mastectomy. So many people have surgeries of different kinds. All of those instances used those leg constrictors in order to keep blood flowing threw the legs. I gotta believe if the risk was super high, people would not have surgery.

    Sick before surgery

Call your doctor and make sure you are taking whatever meds are necessary to get rid of it quick. I know my hubby had laproscopic kneww surgery postponed because he has too stuffed up to go under.
