    New here...what now?

I payed $6400 plus my plane ticket. They may be offering a special price that is cheaper. It doesn't hurt to ask. Maybe they will work with u on the price. As far as follow up, I haven't followed up with anyone yet. The one place I did call wanted a $500 new patient fee. Uh-BIG FAT NO THANKS. I really do need to at least make an appt with my GP or maybe a nutritionist . I am very good about making sure I take my three bariatric vitamins each day, my b12 and my calcium citrate chewables also. I plan to see someone in the next 2-3 weeks.
  2. I did. It was pretty cool. They gave me some "lovely" stuff to drink and I immediately had an X-ray that I watched on a tv monitor.
  3. Hi. I went to dr Ortiz too. I went alone. Out of the seven people having their sleeve on the same day, five of us came alone. The hotel was nice and everyone was helpful and very friendly. On the day of your surgery they will sit u down with a nutritionist and do a EGK to make sure your heart is healthy enough for surgery. You will only stay there for the night of your surgery. Ask for lots of Popsicles . You will inhale them. The next morning I was sent back to the hotel with a bag of Meds ($160.00 extra) and a paper with instructions. The pain medicine is a joke so bring your own if you have any. You go back once for a bandage change and then u get your drainage bag out on day 3 post op. Try to walk when u can. It helps with the gas. ( they pump your stomach up with air for surgery. It looked like I was six months pregnant ) My stomach didn't go down for about 10 days. If you have anymore questions, you can email me directly jmo9121120@gmail.com. You'll do great.

    New here...what now?

Anyway...I have 2 friends that had sleeve surgery in the US. They paid twice as much. Dr. Ortiz was my Doctor. Everything went just fine. I was one of 7 people having surgery on the same day and five of us came alone. We were only at the clinic for one night. They sent me back to the hotel with a bag of Meds ( they cost extra...$130.00ish) and a sheet explaining what the Meds were and when to take them. The pain medicine is a joke so if you have some, bring them. You will be glad you did. I went back to the clinic once to change out my dressing and, on day three, they took out my drainage bag. My friend that had her sleeve surgery in La. didn't have a stomach drain. I guess it depends who u go to. I am on week 7. I decided not to weigh myself until day 90. Just a personal preference. I will say that I am happy with what I see in the mirror and I have def dropped weight. Hope this helps. Good luck. You'll do great.

    New here...what now?

Hey there. My name is Jen and I had my sleeve done back on 3/12/2014. My surgery was done by Dr. Ortiz in Mexico. I can only tell you what my experience was but I hope it will be of some help. I have struggled with my weight all of my adult life. Some of it I attribute to laziness, some to three child births, some to certain Meds, and poor diet too. I wasn't really a grazer when it came to food. I

    March 2014 Sleevers

Hey everybody. I had my surgery on March 12th. It will be 4 weeks next Wednesday . I went to Mexico to the OCC with Dr, Ortiz. I had surgery around 1:00 pm on Wednesday and I was back in my room at the Marriott before 11:00 am on Thursday. The first three days......pretty tough but certainly manageable. I made a decision NOT to weigh myself for the first month so I am not sure how much weight I have lost. I will say that I feel great and I know that the surgery was the best choice for me. Good luck everyone.
  7. Hey there. I just had my surgery in TJ On March 12th. Yesterday made week three post sleeve surgery. I will tell you that I had a passport and that is what they asked me to give them when I crossed back over the boarder from Tiajuana into San Diago. I am pretty sure that, before too long ,you are going to have to have a passport whenever you travel anywhere; including the US so it may not be a bad idea to get one anyway. BTW...I had my sleeve done at the OCC. No problems. No regrets. Good luck.
  8. Hi. My name is Jennifer. I am a mother of three and my husband and I have been together for almost 20 years. I have been heavy my entire adult life. I am 43 and, no thanks to our insurance, I am paying out of pocket for my sleeve surgery. That said, I am getting it done in mexico by Dr. Ortiz. My husband and my two younger kids support me but my oldest sees it as a cop out. Some of my family and friends think going across the border is CRAZY. They also feel that someone should go with me yet, for some reason, I feel that this is something that I need to do FOR myself, BY myself. Am I crazy? I have read a lot about this doctor and feel that I will be in safe hands. The main downfall to me paying for the surgery is that I don't have the "pre-op" guidance that some of y'all do. I would really appreciate any helpful tips that any of y'all may have that will make the start of this journey go as smoothly as possible. Thanks for your help and wish me luck . And CONGRATS to everyone one here for taking the time to put yourself first for a change in an effort to be a healthier you for yourself and your loved ones. ????
