  1. I was banded on Sept 14th, 2007. I have lost 25lbs so far and I have just recently started on solids. I lost the weight from will power, but mostly because I knew I couldn't have the foods I wanted. I didn't want to cause any problems with my band so I stuck to fluids and mushies very strictly. However, now that I am on solids, I have realized I can eat anything I want...bread, meat, diet pop, etc..even if I don't chew until a liquid state. I feel like I did pre-band. So now I have started gaining and I am beginning to lose my control. Has this happened to anyone else before first fill?..and will it stop when I have the fill? Maybe I should relax and enjoy these foods for another couple of weeks in case I am never able to enjoy them again...any input is appreciated..Thanks

    Doing your own fills?

I am an OR nurse and could be easily trained to do fills but it was explained to me that there are a couple of reasons for not doing your own fill. #1 You would have too much control...it would be too easy if you had an occasion coming up that you want to eat at..and just fill & unfill your band for your own convience, therfore counteracting the benefit of the band (taking control out of your hands) #2 Let's say you do a fill on yourself and there is too much restriction and you cannot keep Water down and are possibly vomiting. You would be in no condition to do an unfill right at that moment even though it is needed for relief.

  4. Thanks so much..it is nice to know what I am feeling is so common, it is defined by some as an unofficial "stage" of the journey...I will take your nurses advice and try not to obsess about losing until my first fill...Thanks again.

    Calm me down! Now!

I just posted about the very same problem..and my first fill is Oct 30th too. I have just discovered in the past few days I can eat whatever I want with no problem at all...now I feel I am back where I started pre-band..I am praying the first fill will turn things around again.

    help hiatal hernia

Hi..I was banded on Sept 14th, 2007 in Toronto, Ont. When I woke up they told me I had a hiatal hernia that they repaired right before I was banded. I was shocked because I had no idea or any symptoms. I asked how big, and the nurse replied that it was "huge". I was so groggy that I didn't press for more accurate information. I was told later when I called that it is very common..thay see it all the time. I did not have to do anything differnet for healing, and I had no complications afterward. I hope this helps. I should mention that my BMI was 33-34 pre-op, but I am not sure if this would make a difference. Good luck, and please feel free to contact me if you have any more questions. Jaide
