  1. Thanks for the info! I'm a first-surgery Sleeve. I tried years ago to get approved for the band, but my insurance denied, denied denied. I tried again later for the band and after being told it was covered by our insurance, I was told no, it wasn't. Although I wish this journey had started years ago, I am excited for the sleeve. I think it is a better fit for me. Counting down...
  2. I had only recently had this topic come to mind. I know that so many times "addicts" have a turning event, something that changed their thinking. I always assumed it was when I quit playing sports and kept eating like an athlete. I only recently realized that I didn't start gaining at that point, but several years later when I got married....to an alcoholic for 15 years. Without realizing it, I began using food to hide my emotions, to Celebrate joys and events, to console me when I was sad or hurt, and pretty much to answer any problem I had. Diets won't work unless the lifestyle changes. Even though 15+ years has passed, I still have the habits that this dysfunctional marriage ingrained in me. I am now in a very supportive, positive relationship, and know that I can be happy and healthy going forward. May 5th, 2014... 10 days and counting!
  3. So very excited, yet concerned that I won't be strong enough to handle the temptations and concerns. I've known a few people who had the bypass or the sleeve who didn't follow the "rules" and while they did lose weight, they are not healthy or trying to control their portions or content. I guess they took the easy road. I know that I need to do this right. I've waited too long to not give this my all. Does anyone have any input on how to face these temptations head on? Thanks!

    May 2014 Sleevers

My surgery is scheduled for May 5th! Cinco de Mayo in the hospital instead of at the Mexican restaurant. Still sounds like a good trade. Getting so excited!

    Is anyone else cold?

This was discussed at my support meeting last night. A few of the others mentioned that it might be due to loss of fat / insulation. Others said it seemed to start with the pre-op diet. I really hope it happens to me! I have been HOT since puberty, even at 120 lbs. I have even used my excessive heat and sweating as an excuse to NOT exercise at gyms, or with friends. I would LOVE to be cooler.
  6. I agree. People like that are either self-centered and never notice anything about anyone else, jealous because they haven't been able to lose, or just mean. Try not to let it get you down. You are doing this for YOU! and YOU deserve all the benefits that you see everyday.

    Who Are You?

Hi Everyone, I'm NancyInOKC, I am 53 years old, married, and work fulltime in the telecom industry. I have 2 grown daughters and 4 wonderful grandkids. I've been overweight most of my adult life, and have tried and failed at most "diets". My weight has caused health issues for years. I have tried to get insurance approval for WL surgery several times over the last 10 or so years, to no avail. After being told that I need back surgery, or lose 100 lbs, I began researching again. I determined that my husband's new employer does cover the surgery with prerequisites and a hefty copay. I figured our budget and found a way to do it. Surgery is May 5th! I am very excited about starting my new life and hope to be a great "Loser"
