A place for bandsters in their 60's

How is everyone doing? Are you losing regularly each week? I don't. It gets me frustrated when the scale doesn't go anywhere. I need to keep up with my exercise in the pool. I am sure regular exercise makes a difference.

No restriction. Time to Freak Out!

pb stands for productive burp. sometimes you burp and food comes with it. Sometimes people just throw up from food being stuck. it's basically vomiting no matter what they call it!

I don't think it would hurt to eat some scrambled eggs. Can you do liquids the rest of the day? Everyone's doctor has a different post op diet. Some people have to be on liquids for 4 weeks. Dr. Ortiz in Mexico doesn't do that . He advances people a lot faster than my dr. did. Just make sure you chew and chew until it's liquid in your mouth.

    Optifast (Vanilla to Exchange)

I put some sugar free choc. pudding in mine and that made it taste better. There is also sugar free chocolate syrup to make choc milk that you could try.

    dr. recommended STAGES...

My dr. prescribed a little patch to put behind my ear that was for nausea. I had to be on liquids for 4 weeks and then 2 weeks of mushy foods.

You have to chew your food very well. If you chew it up until it's practically liquid, you shouldn't have this pain. Don't try to eat bread. It swells up and will not go through the band. My main problem right now is waiting until my next fill. I am so hungry and afraid of gaining some weight back. Having the correct fill makes all the difference in the world. I want to start losing again!

Phyl, that's the greatest news! I am going back earlier too because I don't feel anything from my 4th fill. They fit me in Friday. I am glad because I feel like I don't have restriction and certainly not my sweet spot after 4 fills. This is going to get expensive. I am afraid I have a leak.

Aunite Phyl, ,that's such a cute name. Can you call your doctor and see if they have a cancellation list? Maybe someone will cancel. Or is there a possibility of going to another doctor for a fill? I know how disappointing that is. When I was supposed to have my first one, the dr. canceled because he had to go out of town. It's so hard to get the right fill too. I have had four now, and still don't feel like I am at the right amount. I hope you can get yours as soon as possible! It's nice to see our little group growing!!:nervous

I haven't been losing very quickly. The doctor told me I wouldn't lose as fast as the younger people. I get a little discouraged about it, but I know any weight I lose is a step in the right direction. Sallyjo, that is so great that you are so close to goal. I don't even have a goal weight. I think when I lose a bunch more, I will be happy though!

Hope everyone is doing well. Weight loss is very slow for me. I had so hoped when I had this surgery that I would be as successful as everyone I read about on here. I know the lbs will come off eventually, but I hate that I don't lose for a month or two, and then I will drop only a couple of lbs. I am getting another fill in hopes that it will make a difference.

Where is everybody today? I bet everyone is so happy with their band, they are busy. I hope all the new people in their 60's will see this thread. I really like coming here to read how the band has improved our health!

Thank you. It's hard sometimes to find someone I trust to do the work that I can't do and have to pay someone to do. I can't do a lot of things, but I don't want weridos on my property. It's hard to find someone trustworthy. It seems if I find someone, then they move away or something. I like to find people through word of mouth then I know that someone I know says they are trustworthy.

Sounds like you have wonderful husbands. I am a widow. I have to do things myself or hire someone to do the harder things. I can't wait to get this weight off so I feel better.

Weight loss after a long plateau?

Do you have to pay to see the dr. again? Sometimes ports do leak. I don't know why you would have anything white around the port area. Maybe you should have your dr. look at it. As far as weight loss goes, a lot of people slow down after they have had the band a little while. Some people won't lose for awhile, then drop a few again. Not everyone loses every week.

WHAT FOODS GETS STUCK or give you problems?

I agree about the pop corn. I don't think there is any limit on how much pop corn I could eat. I don't know why it goes right through the band like there is no band. It's the same with most crunchy foods. I like to eat a little bit of Kashi Crunch cereal because it's high in fiber. I think it's bad for the body not to have fiber. It also goes down like there is no band.

    A thread for Single Bandsters

Basically, the veggies that have high carbs are peas carrots and potatoes. I would bet you can look online and find a web site that has the carb content on different foods. You don't want to go over 20 carbs a day. The less you have, the faster you will lose. Just make sure you drink a lot of water too.

I agree! This makes me very hopeful. There are a lot of us who don't want to lose the weight just to look better. Our health is at stake here!

I am so glad to see others posting in this thread. I figured that there must be quite a few of us in their 60's since Medicare will pay for it They must have decided that paying for this surgery will be cheaper in the long run than paying for knee surgery and heart bypasses, etc. I am losing slower than I would like too, but I recently started going to Water aerobics so I hope the little bit of exercise I can do will help with weight loss. I have had my band filled 3 times, and I think this is the right amount for me. I am afraid to get more, because I have thrown up a few times when I forgot to eat slower. It's hard not to gulp food down when I am so used to eating so fast, but I am learning to eat slower so I don't throw up.

I have been searching this site to see how successful people have been with lap band if they are over the age of 60. As we get older, our metabolism slows down. I wish more 60 and above had posted in here so I could see how much weight they have lost.
