A place for bandsters in their 60's

I take celebrex for mine. My dr. said it's fine as long as I make sure to drink a lot of water so that it goes through the band and doesn't sit in the pouch. I have lost a few more lbs. I did good over the holidays. I didn't gain anything. I think I finally have perfect restriction now. I can only eat a little bit, which is fine with me. I make sure to drink a protein drink every day so I get all my protein in.

I am glad you got your fill Marilyn. I agree that you should be happy to sneak up on the right spot. After Christmas, if you get more put in, you might not be able to eat more than a few bites or throw up. It's not fun to throw up in front of people or have to explain why you can't eat. I hope you have wonderful holidays and then get a fill and it's perfect.

Marilyn, A lot of people don't feel much restriction from their first fill. Just make sure you chew your food well. It's not fun to have food get stuck that won't go through the band after a fill. Call your doctor to see if he will let you come back sooner. A lot of doctors want to go at the fills slowly to see how you are doing and give you a chance to get used to it. Just try to eat Protein and veggies and not many carbs and you won't be as hungry, and should continue to lose until you can get another fill .

Where are all the bandsters in their 60's? I haven't seen any new posts on this thread lately. I am struggling to lose more weight. I think it will be easier after the holidays.

I have been doing my water aerobics classes faithfully and trying to do more walking outside. Weight loss is still very slow. I would rather have it come off slow and steady though than not come off at all. I think I am only down 2 lbs from last month. Weekends are hard when I am around more tempting foods. I try really hard to stick with the plan, cause the smallest amount of junk food will make me gain a few lbs that it has taken a month to take off. Onward I go!

The papaya tablets will help dissolve any food that is stuck. I find they really do work. I bought them at Walmart. I read about them on here, and someone told me Walmart carried them. They are by the vitamins and supplements. Papaya Enzyme tablets.

I went out to dinner with some friends tonight. It was really embarrassing. There didn't seem to be anything on the menu that I knew I could eat. I ended up ordering some soup and the chunks of vegetables were really big and not very well cooked. I ended up getting stuck and heading to the bathroom sliming. Luckily, I didn't throw up. I used the papaya tablets that I have read about on here. They got me unstuck, but I am sure everyone at the table thought I was strange. I just don't want to tell every single person I know about my band. Has everyone else told all their friends?

Thank you for the recipes. Where do you find this Greek yogurt? I don't remember ever seeing it in the store by the regular yogurt. I hope you will keep the recipes in this section. I don't have a computer so I use my daughter in law's when I come to visit. I don't like to over stay my welcome and stay on the computer the whole time, so I usually just come to this over 60's thread.

I would really like to see your recipes. I have a hard time coming up with things that are easy to fix. I live alone so I don't like to make things that take a lot of fussing.

I have been going up and down lately. I can't seem to go down and keep the scale going down some more. I know I don't need anymore fill. It's getting frustrating. One good thing though is I am down 55 lbs from when I started. I know I would be on my way up the scale without the band!

I have to say that since my 4th fill, I can't take pills nearly as easy as I could before. Right now I just take the most important ones. I can't take my calcium, they are too huge. I chew the chocolate calcium instead. I can't take my Flaxseed Oil capsules either. I used to take 9 pills or supplements every morning. I can't anymore. I have trouble at night too, getting the evening ones down. It's worth it though. I feel full all the time. I need to drink water, but sometimes I even feel too full, but I force myself. It's nice to see the scale going down again.

I take Celebrex. My doctor said I didn't need to stop taking it. In fact, he gave me a lot of samples and saved me a bunch of money. He just said to be sure to take it with a lot of Water so it didn't sit in the pouch. I take it in the morning with a huge glass of water, then I have Breakfast so that it's not on an empty stomach.

For me, the first week wasn't bad. I guess the stomach is still swollen from surgery, so the band is tighter and I really wasn't hungry. The next week, any time I got hungry, I had whatever was on my list. (mainly soups and Protein drinks) I really didn't let myself get too hungry. They said this time was for healing and not for losing, so I didn't worry too much about the scale, just kept drinking any time I was hungry. The third week was the hardest. I wasn't really all that hungry, I was just sick of everything. I will admit I a couple days I had something on the mushie list that third week. I read on here that some doctors don't keep people on liquids as long as my dr. so I thought it would be okay. Once I moved to mushies, I was fine. I still had Protein drinks and soups, but I ate cottage cheese and eggs etc, so I wasn't as bored with lack of variety.

    Crushing Medications

That's good to know that you can get the liquid to mix in at the pharmacy. I was able to take my medications one at a time with warm water before I had this 4th fill. Since then, it's been a big problem. I haven't even taken some of my normal supplements because I am afraid they will get stuck.

    Grrrr! I'm annoyed.

I hardly told anyone I was doing this. I had no idea how fast I would lose since I am older, and I didn't want anyone asking me if I was losing, and how much, etc. It's just been lately that people are starting to say that I look like I have lost some weight. They ask me how I am doing it and I just say I started exercise classes in the pool, and I cut out sweets, and I am eating smaller portions. All of this is true. I don't think it's anyone's business that I had surgery. I told my son and daughter, but not too many friends and no other family.

Well the scale is finally showing a difference since I had my 4th fill. I am not able to eat nearly the portion sizes I was able to eat with 3 fills. It's amazing what just a tiny bit more of saline will do. Sometimes I think I might be too tight, and that kind of scares me. I have read on here how much trouble people have from being too tight. I can eat tiny portions, and drink my Protein drinks and Water, so I guess I must be okay.

Hi Marilyn! I am so glad you are not going to wait around for medicare. If you have the money, go for it! Just remember that the band can be kind of frustrating. The fills make all the difference in the world. They are the difference of being nauseous at the site of food, or still craving your favorites. Unfortunately, fills don't last. As you lose weight, you lose fat around your stomach, and the band gets looser. As soon as you notice that your hunger has returned, get another fill. But you must remember to chew until you think you can't chew anymore once you have a good fill, or food will get stuck. It's a learning experience, but you don't have to learn it all at once. I am glad you are on lap band talk. I have learned so much here. The doctor can't be with you every day, but any problem that comes up, you can come here. The things you will learn here are more valuable than anything I have learned anywhere else. You can always send someone a private message too. If you click on someone's name to the left, a box will come up that says send a private message. Everyone that I have ever messaged has been more than willing to help me.

I don't remember how long I had to be on mushies. I think it was 2 weeks though. You shouldn't have any problems Claramae, since you don't have a fill yet. Just remember to chew you food very well. I think they don't recommend trying beef first. I eat a lot of ground turkey. It's less calories. I make meat loaf out of it, or use it just like I would for ground beef. I am happy to report that I got a fill. I have to be on liquids for 24 hours after a fill. I haven't really felt like eating since this fill, and the scale has been showing this. I finally dropped 5 lbs. I am very excited. Also, I wanted to say Welcome to Marilyn! In spite of the fact that I haven't lost as fast as some of the younger people, I love my band. My thoughts are no longer consumed by what I will get to eat next.
  20. Some people just have slower metabolisms that other people. That's where exercise comes into play. I have to say too, that since I got my last fill, I am losing a lot better. It is much easier when you feel so full from a fill that food doesn't even enter the mind. Before this last fill, I had Snacks on the brain. Now I feel like I ate a big dinner and the thought of food or snacks is almost nauseating. I am sure it won't last because it never does. I always lose better right after a fill.

Question about the constipation post surgery...

I tried the baby food prunes/prune juice and it didn't help at all. I don't have an answer for this problem, but I sure would like to hear whatever anyone else has found to help out with this. I think part of my problem is Calcium. Calcium is constipating.
  22. I was a self pay too and had to have an eval too. She just asked me what changes I thought I would have to make after I had the surgery. It wasn't a big long involved appointment. She asked me if I was willing to exercise and I said I was. She asked me why I thought all my diets in the past had failed, and I said I usually give up because I am not losing, so I decide to have something I have been craving, and that's the end of the diet. I told her I was sure I would see results from banding because my portions would have to be smaller, and that would motivate me. She told me I had a good attitude, and that was the end of that!

I have that problem too. Since I live alone, I don't like to cook for myself. Friends call to go out to eat, and since that's my main way to socialize, I always love to go. I try to order the lowest calorie thing I can find on the menu. I don't always lose regularly. Sometimes I will go over a month and not lose, then all of a sudden, I will drop about 3 lbs. It was coming off much faster when I first got the band. As long as it's moving down and not up, I am happy.

Text hidden on the menu bar?

I have had that problem too. I don't get it. Sometimes it's there and sometimes it's not.

Okay, where are all the bandsters in their 60's posting these days? I like this thread to see how everyone else in my age group is doing. It seems like this thread isn't moving. Claramae, how are you doing since you moved into mushies?
