2 months post op & struggling
Jeanne14 replied to GemmaLicious's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Is that your weight loss since surgery or does it include pre-op weight loss? I had my surgery one week before you (March 24) and I have lost about 25 lbs. since surgery (plus 12 lbs. on the pre-op diet before surgery.) It feels like it's coming off slow, but an important thing to do beyond weighing yourself is to take your measurements. I can see the results more there. For example I have lost 5 inches on my hips and 4 inches on my waist, that is far more exciting than what the scale says. My clothes are very baggy and I can see the changes in my body. You have to be patient, it's only been 2 months for god sake! Beyond that I think the most important thing to do is to make sure that you are meeting your protein and water goals. Your doing great! -
I'm one month out and my nutritionist does not want me to count carbs or calories, just focus on getting the proper amount of protein and water. But when I asked her about carbs she did say women need a minimum of 130 grams of carbs a day.

Anyone tatse any non-artificailly sweetened protein drinks?
Jeanne14 replied to Ageekygal's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also wanted to avoid artificial sweeteners. I just completed 6 weeks of liquid diet and used Protein powder by Vega. They are Vegan, plant based Proteins. I used chocolate and vanilla Performance Protein. I taste tested a bunch of different brands and these to me were the best tasting and not super sweet. There Vega One product is good too and has more flavors. I found the Stevia taste to be minimal in the Vega products. A couple of other brands that I thought were pretty good are About Time and Plant fusion. http://myvega.com/ http://tryabouttime.com/ http://www.plantfusion.net/products/plantfusion -
Enough of the super sweet protein!
Jeanne14 replied to Justicenga's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm so sick of sweet everything! I'm 2 weeks post-op and just started week 3 (of 4) of the full liquids stage. I saw my nutritionist today for the first time post-op and I was almost in tears telling her how I could barely look at these sweet things anymore, I need savory! She's letting me puree things like black bean or lentil soup and make some green smoothies (smoothies with vegetables and fruit. They just have to be blended really fine and I'll be adding unflavored protein powder to these new options. Thank goodness, I don't know if I could have made it 2 more weeks as is.! -
When were you able to sleep confortably in your bed?

Could sleep on my belly at about a week or so. -
When were you able to sleep confortably in your bed?
Jeanne14 replied to MorganO87's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I slept the first two nights I was home, in my bed, on my back. Then the third night I started sleeping on my side with a pillow against my tummy for a little support and I was fine. I slept much better that way because I hate sleeping on my back. -
I am almost 2 weeks out from surgery. I was doing the little sips at first until a few days post-op I gulped by accident and noticed that it didn't bother me in any way. I can drink anything totally normally now. Water, protein shakes, soup. I got lucky I guess.

I woke up one week after surgery nauseous from the constipation. This is what they told me to take and it has been working perfectly. I have had a bowel movement EVERY DAY since then. I take Metamucil (psyllium fiber) and a stool softener (such as Colace) every day. They also said, if you do that and nothing happens within a few days then you can try a laxitive. But I haven't had to resort to that. It's also going to help if you can get you 64 ounces of water in.

HELP! 1 week post-op, woke up nauseous
Jeanne14 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 1 week post-op and have had no nausea until last night. Everything has been going great for me, no problems until now. Nausea interrupted my sleep and I am still nauseous this morning. I want to try to avoid vomiting, but I'm not sure what to do. I am afraid to eat right now. is there something "over the counter" I can safely take? Does anyone know what this might be/why this happened? Thanks -
HELP! 1 week post-op, woke up nauseous
Jeanne14 replied to Jeanne14's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just spoke with the Nurse Practitioner and she confirmed that the nausea could definitely be because of constipation. She recommended taking Metamucil and a stool softener daily and if there is no bowel movement within a few days, then take a laxative like Ducolax. Thank you everyone for your help!! I really appreciate the quick responses. -

I think it may have been constipation. Anyone ever get nauseous from constipation? -
HELP! 1 week post-op, woke up nauseous
Jeanne14 replied to Jeanne14's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been getting my 64 ounces of water in. I'm wondering if it's because I took my Prevacid too late last night. Anyway I did put a call into my doctors office and I'm waiting for response. Thanks for the advice. -
I know, it's so gross! Of all the research I did before surgery, no one ever warned me about this. It started for me when I was doing the pre-op liquid diet. I'm afraid we may be stuck with it through the high protein/weigh loss phase of our diet. I think when you get to maintenance you can go to a more normal ratio of protein, carbs and fat, so it should go away. At least that's what I'm hoping. I'd love to hear from some veterans on this.

Did you have heel spurs or plantar fasciitis...
Jeanne14 replied to Flutterfly19's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I've had Plantar Faciitis for almost 10 years. I can't wait to see if it goes away! -

That's great to hear!! I also have Plantar Fasciitis and I've been wondering if it'll go away after I lose enough weight. You give me hope -
It's been 2 days since surgery and I'm feeling pretty good. The worst part right now is my swollen abdomen. I don't know if it's because of the gas or the trauma of the surgery (maybe both?) but i cannot wait for it to get back to normal. I'm wondering how long that took for others? I'm doing pretty good so far getting things down. I'm drinking lots of water, had my first protein shake, drank a whole bottle of the Isopure protein drink and even a little bit of yogurt drink and applesauce. Took all my meds and vitamins too.

Day of surgery: I just waked a bunch of laps up and down the hall for about a half hour. Will do more in the morning. Hurtwhen I firstgot out of bed, then quickly was very tolerable. This has been a great day. I hope tomorrow goes as well. Now I need to chill out and try to get tired. I havent slept yet since surgery. Ive been wide awake all day.

Had my surgerythis morning. Everything went well and I'm settled into my hospital room. The operation took just under two hours. When I woke up in recovery it was like waking from a nap. I had some pain in my stomach. Not horrible, they gave me a pain med in my iv, then I felt fine. I was slightly nauseous, so they gave me a med for that and I haven't felt nauseous since. Then I started getting the uncomfortable gas in your body feeling (which I knew would happen because of the air they pump into your diaphragm during surgery.) It was particularly in my chest. But once again, I told them and they had a med for it! About four hours since those meds, started getting a little pain back. It hurts most when I laugh or get up, but overall I am feeling really good!! I have been wide awake, my family can't believe how good I am doing. Just wanted to let everyone know how it went. Hopefully I don't sound too loopy. I'll update you again soon. Happy to be on the wat to healing!

Today's the day! I'm off to the hospital for my 10:00am surgery!! Can't believe how calm I am. I'll try to post an update when it's done, if I'm up to it. Good luck to all who are going in today!

2 more days to go until surgery. It sounds like those first few days can be rough. I appreciate everyone posting about it because it seems like by the end of the first week most people are doing fine. That is so helpful to know.

I thought I knew what to expect but not so much...
Jeanne14 replied to hrhlaurie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told that caffeine (a reasonable amount) is fine as long as you get your 64 ounces of water in every day. To me that's a great motivator to make sure you reach your water goal. -
Hi all! I've been getting a lot of great info from this site. I finally signed up and am glad to be here. My Gastric Sleeve surgery is scheduled for March 24, 2014. Doing lots of research, getting prepared. I can't wait for my new "birthday"!

Dee, can you please add me to the list? Thanks March 24th

Such a great idea to make your own Soup stocks! I want to do that now.

My surgery is 3/5 and I'm 6 days into pre-op. The first two days I was super cranky and had to apologize to my husband and kids about a billion times. I'm doing better now but I am sooo ready to go ahead and have surgery. This last week and a half is dragging. The two week pre-op diet is the only part I'm truly scared of. I've read a lot of people saying that it's the worst part of this whole thing!
