TWO weeks out .... Chime in my May buds!
ninan replied to Comeflywithme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Comeflywithme! I was also sleeved May 5 and my experience has been mixed. Getting a little better each day though. The first five days were pretty tough and I could hardly keep anything down, but now I'm pretty much on track. Gotta get my sleep back on track, because I'm still waking up 2-3 times a night. I use a CPAP which is a help and a hindrance and has been a factor in my sleep quality. Doing pretty well on the pureed phase and looking forward to having more energy every day. Can't wait to work in the yard! Keep me posted on your progress. -
4 days post op & regretting surgery
ninan replied to Antonia_megan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My first five days felt like an out of body experience. I didn't shower or brush my teeth and threw up every time I drank something. I was barely able to drag my butt out of bed to use the bathroom. Then, on day six I started feeling better and now it's getting easier each day. I'm only 12 days out so my thoughts and prayers are with you. Please keep us posted on your progress. -
Oh the drama! Puhleese! Now really, what possible good can be gleaned from this over baiting, over biting, over bitchy rant? Me thinks someone may be craving attention SO badly that they now believe it's perfectly acceptable behavior to attack anonymous WLS patients over whatever real or imagined, half witted, half baked, pet peeve of the moment. We're a vulnerable and exclusive group of folks so let's stand together, not apart! I too have been amused by the Divine Miss R's posts in the past. This one, not so much. Breathe in... breathe out baby!

I was sleeved May 5 and just started the puree phase today but it has been a bit challenging. I tell myself that this is a temporary learning experience that will soon be over. I've decided to ease into the puree phase and supplement with Protein drinks as needed. Sure will be nice when we can eat regular, healthy food though. I transition to the regular bariatric diet at six weeks out, so only a little over four weeks to go. It's going to get better and be wonderful for both of us once we get through the transition phases. Hang in there and I will too. Keep in touch and we can compare notes and tips.

Need help/advice/encouragement - May 5 sleeve
ninan posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved May 5 and haven't slept for more than an hour or two at a time since. Tried using CPAP early on but that led to vomiting. Now, I vomit 2-3 times a day and at least once a night. Starts out as a cough, then I vomit. Worse when I'm laying down. Taking combination of Cymbalta and Trazadone at bedtime and vomiting that usually within an hour or so. I go to my first pre op appointment tomorrow and will be calling the doctor again today, but just want to know if anyone else has had the vomiting and sleep issues and what may have worked for you. I have to go back to work in a couple weeks and don't really see how that's doable right now with the no sleep/vomit cycle. Any advice or encouragement would be greatly appreciated. Hoping this is temporary since I'm only a little over a week out. -
Need help/advice/encouragement - May 5 sleeve
ninan replied to ninan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you so much for the advice and support. I know things will fall into place soon. The doctor did approve the Cymbalta and Trazadone I take at night, though I'm going to wean off Cymbalta as soon as possible now. When I called the doctor's office today they were very reassuring. I'm feeling a bit better today and each day, so I just need to latch onto that. It's a journey.... again thank you all. -
sleeved Monday. Having hard time getting fluids down. Any advice? Feels like it's stuck and not flowing down to my stomach.

Hello All, I was sleeved on Monday and developed a sore throat soon after. Also, having trouble getting liquids down and home on oxygen. Hoping to turn the corner soon. Any encouragement would me much appreciated. Nina

I'm pretty new here and haven't written much, but the mean spirited tone of some of the recent posts is really disappointing. We've all seen this type of behavior before, but it's usually from a bully on the playground, not on a website created solely to support and educate others navigating the WLS maze. It's not even your ignorance or "opinions" that I find offensive. It's your apparent complete lack of empathy and insight into the human condition that concern me. And hey mean girls, trust me when I say we've all had quite enough "tough love" in the past and are no longer in need of it at this point in our lives. My Mom is no longer with us and you're not really a suitable replacement. I think most of us were hopeful that bariatric pal would be a safe haven from wannabe pseudo condescending junior WLS experts, but it seems that's not likely. Having said that, there will always be those special someone's who seem to take joy from making others feel less than. Maybe there should be a special "troll" edition of BP just for them? Can I get a witness?

Congratulations! How nice to already be home, walking and on the computer. I'm scheduled for surgery on April 7 and can't wait. Take care and keep us posted. -
Banded this morning 2/18- where's the pain? ;)
ninan replied to MacDaddy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations! Hope everything keeps going as smoothly as it has for you so far. Gives me hope for my own surgery coming up soon. -
I'm brand new here and about 4-6 weeks away from lap band surgery. I was doing great and had totally made up my mind about the surgery until yesterday. I told a friend about my plans and she was mortified by this. She said she had seen many people fail and/or end up with major complications. I Googled lapband complications and there are a number of people out there who are not happy about their surgery. After reading that, I'm second guessing myself and would like to get some feedback from others who have had success with the lap band. I'm freaking out. Is this normal? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you. Nina

Thank you so much for the words of wisdom and support. I'll be seeing the surgeon again soon and will discuss my concerns with her. I've also gone back and forth between the band and the sleeve, but my surgeon hasn't done many sleeves and she's the only surgeon I can use here. Lots to think about.
