    what does it feel like?

I had my revision surgery on 9/27. It was a bit tougher than the band surgery, but definitely do-able!! The nausea is what got me in the hospital...thank goodness for Protonix and Reglan! Other than that, I was pretty sore at my port site. Of course, that was my biggest incision area again and probably where the most work was performed. Still a tad bit sore every now and then, but other than that, I feel normal and all is well!! You can't believe the "relief" you feel at having freedom from the band. I didn't realize how controlling it was even though I didn't have a lot of problems with it as some of the others. But, the freedom from not "sliming", being tight one day and loose as a goose the next....I could go on and on.....The sleeve is great!!! You will love it!!

    3 Week Stall

I'm going thru the stall now. I will be 3 weeks out on Monday. I hope it gets over with quickly...I like seeing the scale move on a downward spiral!!!!!!
  4. Congrats!!! Not far behind you on the surgery date...mine was 9/27. Glad you are a loser!!!! I hope I am as good of a loser as you at 6 weeks out!!!
  5. Checking in!!! Surgery weight on Sept 27th was 311, gained 8 pounds in the hospital, YUCK!! But, I have lost the 8 pounds plus 10 more!! Woo Hoo!!! Clothes are starting to definitely get baggier. No real issues expect for bits of reflux now and then. NOT near as bad as what it was in the beginning. I have Protonix on board to take as needed....it's a life saver!! One more week to go of liquids (my doctor likes you to do 3 weeks post op liquids, then 2 weeks mushies, then on to food). The Protein drinks in the morning make me so full....it takes me almost 2 hours to get it in, but I do it!!! Definitely do not regret the revision!! The lap band was so life controlling, and I didn't even realize it. So glad I don't have to wake up each day any more and wonder if I am going to get anything down or not. Plus, the joy of going out in public and not being embarrased by having to get up and down several times to run to the restroom to throw up. Glad those days are gone!!!!!!! Hope everyon is having a great day at being a loser!!!!!
  6. Hey girl! Just wanted to check on you and see if you were feeling better! I sure hope so!!

  7. I take Protonix as needed with Pepcid twice daily- no matter what!! Once you get the reflux under control, you will feel like a new person!!! My husband has reflux pretty bad and I never really understood how he felt until after the sleeve and experienced it for myself. Good luck!!!
  8. My cons was nausea /reflux after surgery. But, thanks to Pepcid and Protonix, it is under control. Other than that, I was sore where they removed my port (I had lap band to sleeve revision). Other than that, can't complain!! People are amazed that I can get by daily on just liquids right now and be completely full. It was tough getting in enough protein and liquids the first week, but it gets easier and easier. NO REGRETS!!!!!
  9. I was extremely sore ( and still am a bit) where my port was. This was also my largest incision area. I was nauseated and had reflux in the hospital. Thank goodness for Reglan and Protonix!!! Don't push wanting to come home. If you aren't feeling well enough yet, be sure and stay an extra night. Walking is a major factor in getting up and getting better. Also have some Pepcid Complete (chewables) on hand for when you get home if you have reflux. It has been a life saver. Other than that, the event was pretty mundain. Don't expect to get in all your liquids either the first few days. I don't think I drank more than 1 small bottle of water the whole time I was in the hospital. Sip, sip, sip!!!! Don't worry, the drinking/intake gets a lot easier. I also didn't get in my required amount of protein until about 5 days out. Just take everything slowly and a little at a time. This will be a total lifechanging experience!!! Good luck!!!
  10. The New Whey Protein shots aren't too bad. I have also found some great choices of different types of protein at www.dietdirect.com. Good Luck!! Debra

    Recover time after surgery

I ended up staying in the hospital for 2 nights...but I had a band to sleeve revision. The nausea was my worst part, but thanks to a great nurse/docs, it was kept under control. I then had to ride him 4 1/2 hours, so I was a bit sore from the ride. I spent the next two days sleeping off and on, but on the 3rd day I made myself get up and out and had no problems. I would give yourself a good 7 days from the time you leave the hospital to get used to your new stomach. Don't rush it!!! Debra Band to Sleeve Revision 9/27/10 Dr. David Kim
  12. I highly recommend Dr. David D Kim in Colleyville. He did my band to sleeve revision on 9/27 and I am doing great. He is EXTREMELY compassionate and understanding. His office staff have been nothing but great. Plus, he performs his surgeries at Forest Park Medical Center in Dallas. What a great hospital!!!! It was a great experience (hospital wise) and I would definitely go back there again if ever needed. Dr. Kim's website is www.drdkim.net. Check it out and give him a call. I don't think you will be disappointed....I am definitely not!!! Debra Band to Sleeve Revision 9/27/10 Dr. David D Kim

    Pre-Op diet

Dr. David Kim in Colleyville did my surgery and he is awesome!!! His website is www.drdkim.net. Debra
  14. I haven't yet, but am very tempted....... Would you consider consuming Cream of "whatever" Soup if you thinned it out quite a bit in the first 2 weeks after surgery??? I have been very good and just stuck to my Optifast Protein shakes and the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury chicken, but would like to spice it up a bit if possible. Or, should that wait unitl the "mushy" stage????? Debra
  15. I am a week out (9/27) and doing great. Only soreness is really where my port was removed during my revision. Staples come out tomorrow!!!!!! I have finally lost the 9 pounds I gained in the hospital, plus 1~. Slow and steady!! Debra
  16. I am also one week out today, but feel close to normal. I do have a tad bit of soreness where my port was, but other than that, I feel fine. But, the nausea, etc, didn't subside until this past Saturday morning. I had a severe bout of reflux at 4:00 am that woke me up and sent me on a journey to Wal Mart. I finally ended up taking one of my husband's protonix and have been keeping up with Pepcid Complete (twice a day as the dr prescribed) and have had no more issues with nausea. I am getting in more and more fluids each day. I think yesterday was my first day to get it all in!! It takes some effort because you have to have a cup in your hand practically all the time. It will get easier!!!! I go to get staples out on Wednesday and can't wait since they are starting to pull a bit in some areas. Hang in there!!! You can do this!!!!! Debra

    September sleevers wanted!

Had my band to sleeve revision on Mon 9/27. It was interesting to say the least, with the nausea/reflux. But, I am now 5 days out and have the reflux under control and feel almost normal!! But, I am disappointed that I haven't lost. I gained 7 pounds in the hospital (due to all the IV fluids) and have only lost 2 of it since then. Anxiously waiting to get the scale in a downward spiral. I have been able to increase my protein/fluids every day, so maybe I will see a change tomorrow!!! Glad everyone is doing well...we've made it through the hardest part so far!!!! Debra
  18. I feel like I am doing well considering I had a revision, etc. HOw are you doing???

    Is this heartburn?

My doctor recommended Pepcid AC chewables. You might try those!
  20. I didn't have him...I had a spanish gentleman that was probably in his early 30's.

    Dr david kim, colleyville, tx

Dr. Kim performed my revision this past Monday (9/27). The only true pain I had that bothered me was where my port was. Other than being nauseous, no other issues. The Gastrograffin they make you drink tasted like Lemon Pine Sol. It was not so good!! Thank goodness I took my barf bag with me, because it came up immediately. But, they got to see that I had no leaks, but had lots of reflux and swelling. They ordered some stat meds and within 30 minutes of receiving them, I felt much better. It was hard to drink and get in enough the first day, but it is getting easier and easier. I stayed an extra night (two nights) total just because of my occasional nauseau and plus I live 5 hours away. They had no problem with that whatsoever!! Besides Dr. Kim coming to check on me the following day, I had 3 other docs/pa's checking in on my all throughout each day. I was very impressed with that (especially since I work in a hospital and most docs only make it once every 24 hours). They want you up and walking the hallway at least every two hours. I escaped by getting a wheel chair ride to radiology due to my nausea. But, like I said, after I got the magic cocktail and felt good, I was up and walking with no problem. Andrea was my night nurse and she is FANTASTIC!!! From my weigh in they took right before surgery until I got out, I seven pounds. It has to all be from fluids as there was no food consumption whatsoever! So, don't expect to lose while you are in the hospital!! I have doubled my intake today over what I consumed yesterday. Cold, cold Water is my best friend and taste awesome right now. I am also consuming the Optifast shakes. I could only get one in yesterday over about a 2 1/2 hour period, but today has been at maximum an hour....I am on my 3rd shake now. I haven't had any pain meds since leaving the hospital. Just soreness which is felt only when you try to get up or twist the wrong way. Yes, I would highly recommend Dr. Kim. I believe he did a total of about 6 surgeries on my day. I got moved up before one patient because she just mentioned she had some syncopal episodes in the past 8 months.....so they wanted clearance from her cardiologist before moving on with the surgery. I was impressed with their cautiousness. I truly feel I could do about 60% of my normal routine right now, but am taking it slow. You will be impressed with Dr. Kim and the hospital staff. No regrets on my part!! Good luck!!!!
  22. I loved this hospital...which really didnt feel like a hospital at all!! Andrea ( my night nurse) was WONDERFUL!!! She would come in to see me, and notice I was hurting, etc and she would be immediatley back to help out with meds. Besides my VSG doctor, I had three other doctors that would come in daily and check on me. Great experience!!!
  23. I will be getting my revision!!! Yeah!! 9:30 is the scheduled time. Can't wait to start a new journey!
  24. I am having my surgery there on Monday 9/27. The hospital is privately owned by a group of physicians, so they have all their needs met to what they require!!! I have been impressed with it so far (pre-op)....and I work in a hospital setting!
  25. I had initially talked with the office a couple of times and didn't much care for the way they handled or were performing. Never officially met with Dr. Patel, but went with another doctor in the DFW area....and so glad I did!!! The office staff is totally opposite of what his was!
