After standing over the toilet for 40 minunts slimming, wishing I was dead and tasting that pork the second time, I had no desire. Plus I gotta say that one scared me. I didn't think about my stoma being wide open and ready to go. Oh well. Ended up saving me about 200 calories. HA!

5 months, 30lbs down, 4th fill & food intake plan
SlowJourney replied to ccjll's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sounds like a plan to me. Looking forward to seeing how it works for you. My question throughout your JC question to yourself is what about the amount of Carbs. I've never been on Jenny but I've seen other people that have been and most of meals seem too high in Carbs for what my dietian and LB doctor have described to me as healthy eating. -
I have 6.5 CC in my band and I eat 5 ozs of meat and a cup of veggies and that keeps me full for about 4 to 5 hours. I know I'm not in the green zone yet but getting closer.

I got the same reaction from my two best friends at work. One of them would not talk to me until I returned back to work alive and well after the surgery. He had lost his wife to bypass surgery 15 years ago. I told him I was having lapband it was a lot safer than bypass and even bypass is much safer now than it was then. The other one had recently lost her sister (not from any bariactric surgery) but was in a mournful mood and reflecting heavily on the fleetingness of life. No person ever goes into surgery, elective or otherwise without thinking about 'What if something goes wrong'. It's human nature. You can't let her concerns overwhelm you. You are the only one that can decide whether you think the postives out weight the negatives. Whatever you decide you, keep us posted. Good luck!

Starting to hate weekends
SlowJourney replied to SlowJourney's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thanks 2muchfun. I guess I am sorta nuts I think more accurately stated, I'm starting to hate Me on the weekends. There is always bad stuff in my house but it does not interest me. It's always candy bars, cake or Cookies. My husband is skinny as all get out but is a chocoholic. That's never been my weakness. Mine is bread, Pasta and most high carb foods and so is my daughter's. So whenever she suggests a place I cave in. I like Lisacaron's idea to take a protein bar with me. I'm going to start that next weekend. I'll let ya'll know how it works out for me. -
Starting to hate weekends
SlowJourney replied to SlowJourney's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thanks, that actually does help! Glad to know I'm not the only one that gets those cravings and gives in to them on occasion, but like you, mine are coming way to often. Will stick a banana or a Protein bar in my purse. -
Need advice..
SlowJourney replied to christinenicole's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, I wa also banded in August and have lost only 39 pounds. I was at a Plateau for about 5 weeks during Jan-Feb. My last fill on Feb 17 seems to have ended that, but I have 6.5 CC in my band. Does food get stuck - yes, sometimes. Mostly when I forget to chew good enough. Somethime I think I let myself get too hungry and I hurry up and swallow just to get something in my pouch and that's wrong. I too still eat too much but that's what it's taking for me to fill satiated. It's getting better daily/weekly though and I think that if you just slow down and really concentrate when you're eating and chew really good you won't get stuck as often. If you're still eating too much I think it's a sign you are not in the "green zone" yet and require another fill. I think I need one more to be totally there. Keep pluggin away at it and keep us updated. -
Last time I was in to see my doctor, I mentioned to her that I had been eating the Progresso Light soups because they were so good and so low in calories and they seemed to satisfy me. She warned against them saying they were considered 'slider food'. I slowed way down in eating them but it got me wondering why if soup is a slider food why isn't my protein shake or my high protein yogart considered slider foods. That's what I eat every morning for breakfast and the doctor has no problem with that. Any ideas on what the difference is?

Disappointing Weight Loss
SlowJourney replied to debco66az's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
10 pounds in six weeks! I would be ecstatic! That's 1 and half pounds a week. Keep up the good work -
Thanks for the insight. I give up the soup and find something better for lunch. I usually shift between tuna and soup. I get a chicken salad or something. I do ask the doctor why and she said the soup was like drinking and eating at the same time but the Protein shake/yogart questions popped in my mind later. Thanks again for the feedback.

Not feeling "full"
SlowJourney replied to nolookinback's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have had 6 fills and am at 6.5 CC in my 10CC band and I'm just starting to get close to the green zone. I can still eat 4 ozs of meat, sometimes 5 and I eat a whole cup of veggies before I feel satisfied - not full. They say it's different for everyone, but until you get there you have to do most of the work yourself which is frustrating I know because you thought you were going to get help. But keep up the hard work and measure your food closely and get the protein since that helps make you feel fuller. You'll get to your green zone eventually and your body will have already become accustomed to the smaller amounts of food. As someone posed here recently, 'Fake it Til you Make it'. Good Luck! -
How is it possible to eat 60-70 grams of protein ?!
SlowJourney replied to SecretBander's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I average about 80 grams a day. For breakfast I have my protein shake (30) and my greek yougart (12). For lunch I'll have some tuna (Tuna Creations 2.6 oz package theres (18) and maybe a hardboided egg(7). Supper I'll have 4 to five ozs of chicken breast or steak and some veggies (28-30) for a total of 90 grams or more. Sometime I can't finish all of the supper and sometime I can't finish all my tuna for lunch so averages out to about 80 grams. I never have a problem getting my protein. You didn't say anything about have a protein shake. That would help you out a lot. -
Feeling Discouraged!
SlowJourney replied to clg016's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know exactly how you feel. I was banded in August and have been back every month for the last six months for fills. I currently have 6.5 CC's in my band. The last fill was on FEB 17th and starting about the 21st of the month or so I had several issues with food getting stuck and so I slowed down my eating to keep that from happening. That went on for 3 or 4 days and then just went away and now I am back to being able to eat anything I want. I am suppose to not eat more than 4 ozs of meat and a quarter cup of vegatables but that does not come close to making me feel satiated. I eat 5oz of meat and a cup of veggies and make myself stop. I have lost 36 pounds and average about 1/2 pound a week. I'm trying to keep my calorie intake around the 1200 a day range but I work out four times a week and build up a good appetite so it's hard. My next fill is scheduled for April the 3rd and the doctors assistant said last time if I'm still not feeling restriction by the time I go back they are going to do a procedure where they draw out all the fluid to measure it and see if I really do have 6.5 CC in there. I hope I do or else there is a leak or something. Anyway it's frustrating. The doctors assistant acts like she does not believe me when I tell her I not feeling restriction. I have asked each time to get more than .5cc at a time but they won't do it. I thought of finding another doctor and paying cash for a fill as my insurance has currently run out and I have to get authorizations for more visits. In short, yes I know how you feel and definately emphatize. Will follow your progess to see how you progress. Keep posting. -
Are the fills painful?
SlowJourney replied to EmilyMikulec's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
No, and thank goodness! I was banded in Aug 13 and have had a fill each month for six months. Will have another in early April. My doctor only gives .5CC each fill so it's taking me a lot of visits to get it right. You will feel a little stick but the port is so close to the skin there isn't much musle for the needle to go through before it enters the cover of the port. If you're anything like me you'll be so excited to get a fill you would tolerate a little pain, but really it's not bad at all. Be brave!! -
I was wondering if anyone out there has paid out of pocket for a fill and how much you had to pay for it. I realize the price would be different for each doctor probably but I'm thinking it would be somewhere in the same ball park no matter what. I'm living in Oklahoma and my insurance has run out. I still need another fill and I'm not sure I'm going to get more authorizations from my insurance carrier prior to my next scheduled appointment in early April.

Recent fill, just starting to feel it.
SlowJourney posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had a fill done on Febuary 17th. I'm now up to 6.5 CC's in my band. In the last three or four days, I have noticed that during the day, my band is tight and I have to make sure i chew everything really good or else it will get stuck. I have gotten stuck 3 times in the last few days and don't like it at all. Yesterday I was out to lunch with my daughter and got stuck and had to go the the restroom and throw up! That was a first and hopefully last! That being said, at night I am still able to eat any and all I want. I can still eat 5oz of meat and a whole cup of vegtables. Was wondering if this is my sweet spot or do I need to have another fill and just make sure I chew a bunch and eat slowly. Any veterans have any input? -

FINALLY! The weight coming off.....
SlowJourney replied to Angel11's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I also had my surgery in August of 2013 and so far am down only 33 pounds. I thought this was very slow progress but friends on this site told me they thought that was good progress. I have since decided to stay off the scales and just go by the way my clothes are fitting since working out leads to muscle gain and muscle weights more than fat. I think you are doing just fine. Just don't get disappointed and give in. Eventually you WILL win! Good luck and stay strong. -
Food(s) you thought you loved...
SlowJourney replied to steph2012's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Yes, mine is anything deep fried. Same sort of thing where now I have to chew it up real good and I taste the dirty flavor of the grease (especially french fries) and it just does not give me the satisfaction it use to. Makes it pretty easy to stop eating them. -
I cheat and take it with a sip of water. Usually, meds are to be taken with meals because they may tend to upset an emtpy stomach. If you're worried about cheating with even a sip of water, you could just wait the required amount of time 20-30 minute, and take it after your meal while you still have a good amount of food in your stomach.

12 lbs. That's awesome, keep up the good work. Congrats on finding this site so soon. I've been banded 6 months and only found it yesterday. I've already received super support and feel like as long as I keep in touch with the folks on this site, I'll be able to stay positive and on the right path. Welcome, and best wishes for continued sucess!

I had my lapband surgery in August and it's now Febuary. I started out at 222 pounds and now weight 188. 6 months and 34 pounds. Was hoping for a little better than that but I still have no restriction. I go monthly for a fill but the doctor never gives me more to .4 or .5 cc's at a time. I'm now at 6 CC's in my band and still have no significant results. Occasionally I think it's working but not sure. I work out 3 times a week and try to keep my calories down to less than 1500 a day. I do have a bad thyroid and am on hormone supression therapy due to a bout of breast cancer and I'm 53 so maybe I just have to keep chugging away, be patient, and not give up. I'm going to feel restriction some day i'm sure. Just wanted to know if anyone else has had such a difficult journey.

Okay, Thanks...you've talked me out of the tree for today:)_
