Questionable post op diet
lsuchick4 replied to aNewTanya's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Seems a little too fast toe, but my doctor is a bit conservative. I was allowed 1 oz of clear liquid every hour when I was in the hospital. -
So scared, someone calm me down
lsuchick4 replied to AuntieLala83's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had similar pains at about 2-3 weeks post op. My doc said it was normal since that is where he removed the stomach. He said I'd feel it more on days when I exert myself more. I'm 5 weeks out now and only feel it occasionally. -
I was sleeved on Feb. 7. I can eat anything that I can tolerate, except tough meat like steak or pork chops. I focus on dense Proteins, with low carbs. I'm tolerating everything very well. I struggle to remember all the Vitamins and Calcium. My husband is excited. He's even lost around 12 lbs since my surgery, just by changing the way he eats. It's time for new clothes! I fit in some of the smaller stuff hiding in my closet, which is AWESOME! My weight: 279 lb when I started the process last August. 265 lb at my pre-op visit. 259 lb day of surgery 239 lb today at 5 weeks out. 20 lb since surgery, 40 lbs since I started the process!

How much protein?!?
lsuchick4 replied to Bobbi McGhee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My NUT says that I should supplement with shakes (or powders, etc). She says that as I get closer to the year mark that I'll start to get more protein from foods and less from supplements. -
Probably just gas. Target sells a French onion soup flavored broth. It's actually not bad.

Can u feel your food
lsuchick4 replied to kgguess210's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm almost 5 weeks out. I can feel it now if I take too big of a bite. It's much less than a few weeks ago. -
Anyone else exp. exhaustion on liquids?

Yes. For me, it was a detox from sugar and carbs, which really makes you feel bad. -

I just saw the article, too. He looks amazing! Great for him! -
I think we all felt that way before surgery. It is totally different after, though. You got this. The pre-op was the hardest part for me.

In general, iron does contribute to constipation. I've been on prescription iron for years without issue. You might want to add in a stool softener.

Anemic before Gastric Sleeve
lsuchick4 replied to Cutepretty1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It didn't affect me. I take 325 mg twice a day. I've been anemic for several years. No issue for surgery. -
Is there a chewable or small B1 vitamin available?

Try bariatric advantage or celebrate. These are specific for bariatric patients. -

Sorry...I fail at reading comprehension. I take a chewable multivitamin. -

I take Celebrate sublingual B12. It's a very small pill that melts under the tongue. Mine are flavored as orange. Easy to take. -

Milk of magnesia, stool softeners. I drink some coffee, that loosens everything. -
Feeling Hungry? Is this it?
lsuchick4 replied to lapnicky's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For me, I don't really feel hungry (not like before). I can feel that my stomach is empty and needs some food. It's not a feeling that I need to shovel everything in sight into my mouth. Usually a piece of cheese (if it's between meals) does the trick. -
I'm struggling to get all my protein
lsuchick4 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on 2/7. I've been cleared for soft foods (moist fish, chicken, etc) and can start adding in anything I can tolerate (except tough meats) on Friday. I'm eating well. My Nut and Dr. Have me on high Protein, low carbs. They both say to continue with Protein shakes for a while with my foods to get in 70-80 grams a day. I was doing fine with shakes, but the past few days it takes everything in me to get them down. I thought it might be the milk, but I've tried the syntax nectar lemonade today and I can't get past the smell. Any helpful hints? I've tried adding Peanut Butter, for anti syrups, PB2, etc, but then the shakes are thick or too sweet. -

Drink a protein shake or your yogurt since it has a lot of protein. Focus on the party and socializing and not the food. You can make it through and IT IS WORTH IT!

I don't really real it either. I can feel when my tummy is empty, but I'm not feeling hungry. My obsession with food now is how to get the biggest nutritional bang for what I eat.

I've been out a couple of times and just brought home the extras. I hate paying for a big meal that I know I won't eat. Today for lunch I ordered from the kid menu and it was perfect! My hospital gave me a card to carry with me that discreetly shows I had weight loss surgery so I can order off a kid menu, just in case I get questioned. Not all restaurants will do it, though.
