Slipped Band? Yes or No?
cantweight2go replied to mslynn's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
:bored:Yes my band has slipped. The first time it happened when I woke up from having the band surgery. I vomited because of the pain meds. They let me go home with out an upper GI. For the next 18 months I was being filled and unfilled because of the pain I was in. Finally, after being admitted in the the hospital spitting up blood, my dr. decided I must have slipped....duh. A upper GI finally proved it and I had to have surgery to fix the band. That was July 09. Now, just today, I went in for a upper GI because of the acid reflux I am having. The dr. says I have slipped AGAIN. I am a wreck. I have to have it fixed and she suggest a bi-pass this time to replace the band. I am scared to death. I need to do some research on bi-pass. She said I am her 1st ever 2x slip.... I do not feel good about this. -
Just had my band surgically fixed on July 22, 2009. My first banding experience was not good so I have high hopes for this one. My arm is swollen for some reason. It is the same arm that I had my IV's in. Does anyone know what might be causing this

The only thing that will show the slippage for sure is an upper GI. Reguest one from your doc. Once you have the results you will know for sure. Good luck!

Pickles are not a problem for me. Popcorn is. Twice I have had to have unfills after having popcorn. The first time I thought it was a fluke. Since the second time I figure that Popcorn is totally off limits for me. Everyone is different though. Good luck to you!

My doc. said that since I had such bad acid reflux because of the slippage (Sleeping with 3 pillows) that the insurance would pay. Sure enough I got the OK to have it fixed on July 22. Make sure your doc specifies all of your complications. Good Luck to you!

I was banded in Feb. 08. I have had 3 unfills and I am currently at 4.5 in a 10cc band. I have had trouble with getting tight after a number of weeks of being stable. Currently, I just started being tight again after a month and a half since my last fill (or unfill). I do have a cold and I was wondering if this could be why I am tightening up. I do have a soar throat with my cold. I guess what I was wondering is if others get tight after being perfactly fine for weeks. This has happened to me 3 times now. I had a upper GI and they said everything looked fine. Any one out there that can give me some help. Lyssa

Start off good then get too tight...help
cantweight2go replied to cantweight2go's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi everyone, I saw my surgeon today and I thought she would have some answers for me about the difficulties I have been having with tightness. She was very insensitive. She did not listen very well and at one point she even asked me if I wanted the band taken out. It was almost like she thought I was insulting her by questioning what was going on. I was smart enough to bring my husband along and he was not happy with her either. I left there feeling that I was not heard. She made sure that I knew that I was ahead on my weight loss and that the health issues I was having had nothing to do with the band. I never said that my health issues had to do with the band, I did say that I did not feel healthier right now. That I worried about the fact that I had so much tightness over and over again. Anyway, I did not get a fill or unfill this time. I will go back in in 2 months to see her again. My husband and I decided to exercise more just incase stress is an issue for the tightness. I am also going to check out a yoga class too. I know when all is said and done that I am giving this my all. I have no intention of doing this half @$$ed. Oh, she also said that I must be eating too fast and not chewing well enough. At that point my DH spoke up and told her that I take FOREVER to finish my very small meals and that i cut things into tiny bites. I don't think she heard what he had to say either. I am not giving up on this. I am in this for the long run. -

Start off good then get too tight...help
cantweight2go replied to cantweight2go's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Mindy and Crummy, Thanks for your concern. I did not have any reflux prior to surgery. When I saw my docs associate yesterday he said that I am doing well because I have lost a good amount of weight. I thought about this and I think he has a screw missing. Don't get me wrong, I started this whole process to drop the weight. However, I do not feel healthier. All of the fills and unfills, I have had kidney stones because of the increase in protein and I just feel like sh%$ most of the time. When my fill is good it is perfect. But when it is bad it is like a knive is running down my throat. Unfortunately, it has been mostly bad lately. Do I want to stop the process....NO. I just want to have a better experience with this like I read and hear so many others have. I don't mean to complain but I get the feeling like my office visits always turn out blaming me or not believing what I am going through because "know one else has had this problem". Thanks for letting me vent Lyssa -

Hi you all, I got even worse this week after what I believe was a stomach virus. I spent one whole day vomiting and I couldn't get anything down. Today I went to the docs office and had .75 removed so now I have 3.50cc in a 10cc band. I am still recovering from the virus and my throat is killing me from vomiting and stomach acid. I was even woke up 3 times last night with stomach acid in my mouth . I had to sleep with 3 pillows and I still had problems. Next week I see my surgeon again. She has done over 1100 lap bands. I am looking forward to talking to her again because I am tired of this painful journey. I am doing everything right so I do not know what I could possible change to make things better but I am willing to try anything. Lyssa -

HI you all. I am 5 months post op and I have lost 57 pounds. I have 50 more pounds to go to my goal. I lost 25 pounds before surgery so I have lost 32 post op. I have had to have 2 unfill recently because I became to tight. -
I am 5 months post op and I have 5cc in a 10cc band. The last two weeks my restriction is even tighter than normal. I can not figure it out. I had to cut my oatmeal to 1/2 cup in am, cottage cheese 1/3 cup for lunch and dinner was 1/3 cup smashed beans. Just a few weeks ago I was eating salads and fruits and now I just have no room for anything. I have been at 5cc since April and I was happy with the restriction until now. Does anyone know what could be going on with me. I do see the doctor on July 25th but I thought I would get some advice before then. I would appreciate your help

Restriction getting worse
cantweight2go replied to cantweight2go's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi everyone, thanks for all of your responses. I saw the dr. and she was not happy with me. She said I waited too long and should have come in earlier to see her. She likes me to drop around 5 pounds a month and I lost 13 this month. Like I said she was not happy. She feels that when I had my one PB that it made my esophagus (sp?) swell and that is what cause so much problems with getting food down. Needless to say she removed 1cc and said if the problem continues I will have to have some test done to see if I have a slip. I do feel so much better now. The only problem now is that I am dropping a lot of my hair. I did not get enough protein last month so I have to make sure I work real hard on that this month. Once again thanks for all of your help. -
Restriction getting worse

Mstrina, Thanks for the advice. i am still going to ask for a slight unfill because I am in pain. My throat hurts and every time I drink it hurts as it is going down. I usually drop 5 pounds a month but this month it is close to 10 pounds. I may need some time to heal the irritation with an unfill. I am in this for the long haul. Thanks for your advise. -
Restriction getting worse

Thanks Suzanne, Since I had surgery I have only had a PB once and that was last week. I was already feel more restricted then but things have been worse since the PB. I see the doctor tom. and I am going to ask for a slight unfill and discuss how after 2 months with the same fill I am so tight now. I am currently back on protein shakes trying to give my tummy a break. -
I love doing yoga but my ymca is 20 miles away and I am driving a diesle (sp?) truck...OGH. I have stopped going and I have just been walking instead. Let me know if you do the yoga. I don't have a Wii but I will get one and cancel my ymca membership if it works. Thanks

Hi Penelope, I got your Message from Lapbandtalk.com Nice to hear from you. Lyssa

I posted a couple of days ago about my last fill bothering me. I was going to wait the till Monday to call the doc's office but I woke up this morning and said "enough is enough". I couldn't even get down my Protein shake without pain, gurgling, hiccups and belching when I sipped my Protein Shake. Besides this, I started my monthly and am cramping, bleeding and feeling week from lack of food and liquids since 6-3-08. I called the doc and she met me in the ER and took out the .5cc's that I was given on my fill on 6-3. I immediately could drink more than a sip and had no problem having cream of broccoli Soup for lunch. I feel so much better now. I always thought it was crazy when someone said they were "too tight". I always thought that was not possible. I am here to say that it is possible and that I never, never want to be in that much discomfort again. I felt afraid, weak and uncertain about my health. Now I feel 100% secure again. There is such a thing as "too tight" and you don't want to go there. I hope this helps for anyone that may be questioning their last fill. Lyssa

I had a fill 2 days ago and I was on liquids. Today I had 1/4 cup very runny oatmeal for Breakfast and I have not been able to eat anything else all day. Even drinking makes me full. I have manage 2 Protein shakes very slowly. My hope is that this will subside soon. I currently have 5.5cc's in a 10.cc band. If this continues like this through my 2 days of puree and 2 days of mushies then I will have to call my dr. Also, I had a painful fill this time and after, for about 1 day, I had blood in my urine. Has anyone had this problem?

Weight Gain??????
cantweight2go replied to darling_24's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have only lost 10 pounds since my surgery 2 months ago. You are doing just great. My suggestion is that you measure yourself. I have lost more inches than pounds and I am sure you may be in the same boat. Look for non scale victories. Stick to the diet plan and everything will be fine. Good luck to you! -
Like most of us that have had our weight fluctuate over the years, I have an assortment of sizes in my closet to pick from. Well, I decided to go and see what I could find that fit today that didn't fit me on 2/25/08 (surgery day). I came out of my closet with a pair of Lee jeans, size 18 and 4 shirts. 2 of the shirts I bought some time ago and never tried on until I got home, of course they didn't fit then. I stored them away thinking that someday they would fit. Someday was today. Now the Lee jeans are straight legs and just a little out of style but that will not stop me from wearing them. The shirts are still in and that pleases me. Has anyone else shopped in their own closet and felt sooooo great about it? It sure beats the price of going to the store. I am sure that will come soon enough, when I am out of the closet ....hehe, but for now the closet is good for me. I am constantly looking for my non-scale victories:smile:

Misbandaid, I have lost much more in inches than in weight. I think this is true for a lot of us. I started at a tight 22/20 and now my 18's are not tight and extreemly comfee. I almost feel like keeping them forever. I actually felt sexy today for the first time in a long time in my cloths.

Katja, I can't wait to be out of my closet and where you are now. Good luck to you!

5 weeks, 3 fills, NO restriction! Is my band a dud?
cantweight2go replied to LiseSeattle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Penelope, You had I had our surgery at the same place. My surgeon was Patterson. I lost only 5 pounds before my first visit. I was told that I showed a lot of self control by dropping the 5 pounds because I had no restriction like you have now. Be kind to yourself. I have had one fill, 3 cc in a 10cc band. They will tell you what size band you have when you go in. They will give you a packet that tells you about your band. I have to date lost 35 pounds, 25 of it before surgery. I am frustrated too. I am hungry. I have been eating a lot of salads because i can eat more fresh veggies and not feel like I am pigging out. Good luck on your dr's visit and keep in touch if you have questions. I live in Battle Ground Washington and there is a great support group at South West Washington Medical Center in Vancouver, if you are interested. -
I am wondering if you have a leak or a defective band. Have you approached this with your doctor yet? It seems to me that the doc should be concerned with this too. I am fairly new at all of this but this just doesn't seem right to me.
