  1. :think I have been lucky enough to get an equity loan because I own my home, I have top Australian health cover but there is no-where close that I can have the surgery done. I am 124kilos, in my early sixties, and admit I am scared stiff. I have had 2 hernia ops done over the past 2 years. The 1st hernia came back within 3 months, luckily the 2nd time which was last November, I had mesh inserted, so it is fine this time. I have swollen knees and ankles and would give the world to loose weight. However, I also worry if having mesh in my tummy during last years hernia op would affect having Lapbanding done. It may be wise if like 'Sonata' Amanda, I travell to Queensland and see a surgeon there. Wish me luck my friends, Love Beth

A place for bandsters in their 60's

Hello Walter, It made my day reading your story. I am so pleased for you. Looks like I may need to travel further north to Queensland to find a lapband surgeon, as there is no-one who does this type of surgery near my country town in NSW. Thank you for giving me the confidence to know that I am not too old at 62 to be banded. I wish you all the best for your future, and pray I am lucky enough to find a surgeon soon, so I also can lose weight and live a healthier life.

Can Anyone Help?? I Am In Melbourne!

Hi Kelly, I live at Crescent Head, which is up Coffs Harbour way on the north coast of NSW. There is a lapband surgeon coming to Coffs, but I do not know when. I may need to travel to Qld. to find a surgeon that does this type of surgery.
  4. Hi Judy, I am 62 and not banded yet. Congratulations on your op. News like yours is so encouraging, thank you. I am not very computer literate and was wondering how I add a 'tickerfactory' to my profile. I made one up, copy and saved it, but have no idea how to add it on my profile. Hugs, Beth

Can Anyone Help?? I Am In Melbourne!

I understand how you feel. I am not banded yet, but would also love to meet someone as you say 'face to face' who has been banded. I am in New South Wales. I hope you find someone. Hugs Beth.

A place for bandsters in their 60's

Dear claramae, I just want to wish you all the best for your surgery. I also do not want to be a size 10, but would love to fit into a size 14. My ankles and knees also give out on me, so shopping and housework, also walking any distance causes me pain. 24 to 26 is the size I need to fit me in Australia. You do not have long to wait now, and I bet you are so excited. All the best. Hugs, Beth

A place for bandsters in their 60's

Hi Gayle, I was 62 in May this year and not having any luck finding a surgeon who does lapband ops near the country town where I live. I have private health care cover, but will need to get a loan to pay the out of pocket expenses. Reading your entry has given me hope that I will be accepted age wise for a lapband op. Your story is so inspiring, thank you and congratulations on your weight loss. I am 272.8lbs which is 124kilos in Australian measurements. Hugs, Beth

    Australian Bandsters Chat Thread

Nice to meet you 'Sonata' I looked up the list of Lapband Surgeons near the country town where I live and the closest is 'Coffs Harbour' The problem is the list says there is not a surgeon there yet. I have added you to my 'windows messenger' but as yet we have not been online at the same time. I am 62 and very nervous. Hugs, Beth
  9. Hello, Not sure if I am in the right place for introductions. I was 62 in may this year. I weigh 124Kilos. I live in New South Wales, Australia. I truly thought I was too old to be banded untill I saw the ages of some of the members on this forum. I have tried many diets over the years with no luck. I always go back to my old habbits. I admit I comfort eat but am really scared now as 2 weeks ago I needed to be put on medication for diabetes. My ankles swell terribly which makes my getting around almost impossible. As for excercise my feet and ankles hurt too much to walk any distance. Because of my inactivity I am scared of putting on more weight. Does anyone know if there is an age limit for lapbanding surgery in NSW, Australia please? I live on the north coast of NSW, but this surgery is not done in my country town. Hugs Beth. :help:
