That is so frustrating! I'm almost 8 weeks out. I hit 2 small stalls. And even gained 2 lbs the other day. I freaked out! Like y'all, I was doing everything. My dr told me to stop looking at the scale and check how my clothes fit. Like I can not weigh! Lol. But, I know I've been doing it right and when I weighed yesterday, I dropped 3 lbs. Just keep on keeping on. It will drop over night. If you're tracking everything, you can call or email your NUT to make sure all is well. Make sure, if you are at a stage to eat, that you are eating something so your body doesn't think you are starving. I'm eating about 2 oz every 3-4 hrs per my surgeon and NUT.
-
How far out are you? And how long have you been in a stall?
-
Congrats on your surgery! I hope all went well! I didn't have any antibiotics, unless they happen to put some in my IV when I was in the hospital but I don't think they did. I was given a liquid pain med but only used it 2 or 3 times after coming home. I did like the anti nausea med I was given. Lol. And at my 2 week follow up he gave me an antacid. But I haven't needed it. And yes, getting liquids and protein in can be a chore! lol.

Had my sleeve 5/1. Sooo good to get some updates from y'all. Been thinking about my fellow May sleevers! I'm doing pretty good. I feel great and eating pretty much anything (dr approved stuff), haven't had problems with what I eat. It's hard getting in all the vitamins, and protein, and fluid, and "waiting 30 before and after and not during." Lol. It's a juggle. I'm down 40 lbs though and so worth it! I hope that's a good loss! I haven't had to take metformin since day of surgery and blood pressure has come down to well into normal range. I'm still waiting for all this energy they say I should have. Don't get me wrong...I feel good. And I track my calories, protein, fluids, etc.. but I don't have this busting energy. :/

My sleeve is not a morning person

You're probably feeling that way because your body isn't handling the strict diet. It might be best if you let your surgeon or Nut know. As for the medicinal marijuana, I think if your surgeon doesn't want you to smoke cigarettes, he/she might not want you smoking anything else. If nothing else but a compromise to your lungs. But if it's legal where you are, it won't hurt to ask the doc. Good luck on your journey! Keep us updated. -

4 days post op & regretting surgery

Sorry to hear you feel so bad. I was sleeved on May 1st so we're close. Are you getting in all your liquid and protein? It makes a huge difference. I also take B complex every day. Yes, breath is an issue, especially if you don't get enough fluid. And protein shakes don't help it! Call your doc. At this point you should be able to chew sugar free gum as long as you don't swallow it of course. Hope you feel better soon! -
Protein shakes are on the full liquid diet. Check with your doctor, but having protein powder mixed with some skim milk or juice may help.

Being 4 days out, that's still a rough time. It will get better. It took several days for the gas to start moving out and boy was it a big relief when it did!! Did you get a script for pain meds? Take it before the pain gets too much. Any movement at this stage is going to help. That and fluids. Getting in as much fluid and protein as possible will help you feel better. Praying for you.

4 days post op & regretting surgery

I agree, you are probably dehydrated at this point. An ER trip may not be a bad idea. And if you end up being fine, then that's great. Better to go and not need it and to need it and not go. Praying for you. And hang in there, it will get better. Each day. -
Protein helps your tummy heal and feeds your muscles while your body is in "starvation" mode. Our body doesnt need to burn muscle, it needs to burn our fat. If you are looking unflavored, Isopure and Unjury both have excellent unflavored proteins. What has your NUT or surgeon set up for what you can have at this stage? I was on liquid the 1st 2 weeks. I just started pureed.
-
Are you getting in all your fluids and protein? I know I'm more sluggish on days I don't get in my liquids. It's hard but push it, you'll feel better for it. Also, in the morning, if I'm slow, I drink some broth (love the wonton soup broth from the Chinese restaurant) and it seems to add the salt or something I need. Hope you feel better soon!
-
I am SICK of protein shakes..lol! I'm only drinking them because I HAVE to.

It will get better. I was sleeved on May 1st. I slept in the living room chair for over a week! I still have to sleep propped up and can only lay in my left side. The liquids, the protein, and the vitamins your surgeon requires are so important. I always feel better when I'm meeting the goals. As soon as I don't I start to feel bad. It does get better, hang in there. Think of the goal, not the crappy moment you're in. Good luck!!

Wanted to post earlier but just too tired. Had sleeve surgery Thursday morning. Actually thought about backing out all the way until I fell asleep. Then I woke up in recovery and couldn't believe I'd done it! My surgeon found a huge hiatal hernia close to my esophagus which surprised us all but he fixed it while in there. The 1st day of surgery, I just really had to recover from anesthesia. Made me so nauseous. Zofran and pain meds were my best friends and i hit my little button whenever i thought about it. Stay ahead of the pain. By that night I was up walking. Slowly but still walking. Very sore and gas pains awful. They would not give me clearance for gas x so I just walked and sipped sipped sipped. They gave me broth but I had no desire to drink it but forced myself to sip about 2 oz. I kept saying to myself "I don't have to like it, I just have to do it." That's what kept me sipping and walking too. And I wrote it all down so I could keep track of it. Moving around helps the gas so much. I came home yesterday and just walking and sipping and taking my pain meds. My husband helped me shower and I've been in the living room chair alot since coming home. Finally, last night the gas has been coming out more and more, my husband is laughing so much but I don't care because it has never felt so good. Lol. I had no idea gas could be so painful. This morning, I am sipping, walking, and using my breathing meter thing they gave me to help my lungs. Feels like someone beat the heck out out of my stomach but I'm feeling pretty good. I am focusing on drinking. It's not sore to drink anymore and I am not going to be one that goes back for dehydration if I can help it at all. I don't have to like it, I just have to do it. Sorry such such a long rant. Hope everyone is feeling good no matter where they are on their journey. And I'll be happy to answer any questions.

I don't have any other advice. Sounds like you are doing everything they told me to do to get the gas out. I'm lucky, I hear, that mine didn't settle in my shoulder. I do know we have to keep taking deep breaths even though it hurts. For our lungs sake. I'm sorry you are in so much pain. Maybe call the dr and see if they have any other thoughts. :/

After surgery I felt like an elephant was on my chest. I was assured it was just gas. Last night, after passing gas, I feel sooo much better!

It's getting close and doubts/fear is sneaking in
Jwow1 replied to SparkleCat's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This sounds like I could have written this about myself! I am feeling the same way! Surgery is May 1st. Whew...we will get through this and be happy about our choice (after recovery). Praying all goes well! -
Just wondering how your appt went. I smoked for many years but did quit several years ago. Before I even thought about this surgery. I know how hard it can be to stop. Praying all goes well!

Paperwork Submitted to Insurance on Friday
Jwow1 replied to abrooke1976's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Praying it's smooth sailing from here on! -
What was the hardest part of your journey? I'm worried about head hunger hunger and not being able to keep the weight off.
-
Your surgeon decides how long you will be on the pre-op diet based on the size of your liver when you had pre-op tests. My surgeon's standard is 2 weeks, 1 week of that is liquid. But he says he may have 4 weeks of diet but I only have to do 2 weeks. But I have a coworker that lost alot of weight before surgery and had to only do liquid diet the day before surgery. Good luck. See you on the losers bench!! I can't wait!

Counting down the days and getting prepared. It was such a roller coaster ride trying to get approval with bcbsnc and now I'm approved. I'm afraid they will change their mind before May 1st!

I'm May 1st! 8am! So scared...and happy!

Well, a bumpy ride!. Insurance initially denied me for the 6 month diet requirement. Saying it didn't prove surgeon reviewed it. So, I submitted to my surgeon all my DETAILED logs of food and exercise. (Already gave him my ww weigh in logs for 9 mths). I alsp typed a letter stating all the diets I've attempted in the past 20 years including the prescription pills I've taken (medically documented) and detailed my calories exercise and weight from ww. My surgeon did a peer to peer with the bcbs dr. He said the insurance company needs to see calorie info, not points so it was good I gave him a letter. Bcbs agreed I had seriously attempted and required me to do another 2 weeks log, come back to my surgeon, send in all the information I submitted to my surgeon along with a letter from my surgeon and they would review it for reconsideration. This info was faxed to them on Wed. and I was approved on Thursday. I go back to the surgeon on Monday the 31st to schedule my surgery! It was a battle and had to jump through some hoops but hope this is the worst part of the journey! Looks like I'm going to have an April surgery! So nervous.
