Good afternoon everyone, Went this morning for my post op appointment. It went great! I am down 15lbs since last Wednesday when I was wheeled in for the surgery. So a total of 28lbs lost. Very happy about that! I am almost making my 64oz a day of Water. I managed for the first day yesterday my Protein drinks. I got one full EAS carb count down. Tried the Isopure pineapple-orange, dear God that's nasty stuff. Got 4oz there. Finishing that off quick and that's off my check list. I asked about having broth-nope that's out. Reason is the sodium-either low or regular will cause weight to stall or climb. Ok-good with that too. I asked about breath mints-because being a ketosis, bad breath is aweful. So Listerine disolving tabs it is. Fine with me as I really like them! My next appointment is March 7th and until then, still Clear liquids and Protein Drinks. So it's all good. Best news to me anyway was when the bandages came off. Underneath, no stiches or staples to be removed. My surgeon used Dermabond. I love him-he saved me from being even more uncomfortable! So to Celebrate, we went in to the mall and walked! I walked 2 miles today. It felt amazing! I have so much energy. To reward myself-I bought a Fitbit and smaller pants at the sporting goods store-still going to need stretchy stuff until I am healed from the surgery. But I am now in a XL-1X depending on the cut. So that's my news! It's been a beautiful day-even if it did snow. Nell

I have had a body pillow for years. I bought one after my second daughter was born in 92. I couldn't live without it! After another c-section, ankle fracture and now this-I can sleep comfortably on my side. It's so worth the investment!

Has anyone tried Isopure Protein Drinks?
Nell65 replied to Aunt GG's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's Doc's Nutrition Depot. I just went tonight. I bought ProtiZyme. I got to try a couple of samples. banana and Peanut Butter Cookie-very good. I ended up buying Vanilla Cake-it's got a hint of lemon to it. SO GOOD! It's made especially for bariatric patients and it's super fine. Mixed easily in my shaker. No funny after taste. Nell -
Has anyone tried Isopure Protein Drinks?
Nell65 replied to Aunt GG's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Isopure is gross! I barely choked it down-that was just for 4oz! Eww I am still trying to find something other than the EAS AdvantEDGE carb control. We have a place here in town that has Protein shakes-they let you taste test. So I am hitting there this weekend! -
Lauren, Got any tips other than that nasty Isopure? Who ever thought that had good flavor in that company needs a reality check. I've got the EAS AdvantEdge carb control. In chocolate Fudge. I need to mix it up a bit-I love chocolate don't get me wrong. But 3 weeks on chocolate only? Nell

Good afternoon, I went in at 6:45 yesterday for my surgery. I was back to my room at 11. Found out I was the only patient on the bariatric floor until 3 when I was moved to a private room on the surgical floor. Super nice corner room that had windows on both side to enjoy the mountain view. I was out of bed by that point and walking the halls. My blood sugars went up, but are coming down now and insulin was reduced to 3 units. No other meds. I am sore, but not overly so. My Dr said it went extremely well. They didn't do the upper GI x-ray today because of the snowstorm. He wasn't worried because I am drinking the three one ounce cups each hour. So I will have that on Tuesday for my post op. So glad its over. Now I get back on with the business of relearning and living life. See you on the other boards! Nell

What's this 'leak test' like?
Nell65 replied to sarahgirrl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well I was to do it before I left the hospital, but mother nature put a kabosh on it as the Dr nor the radiologist could get into there because of a snowstorm. I was given the option to stay another day in the hospital or go home. I went home. I have to do it tomorrow at my post op. -
How long of walks? Outside?around the house? I've had to do it all inside since we've had over 2 ft of snow since I was sleeved. I've been walking around the house-stairs around the living areas. Yesterday was the first day driving. I was walking around the whole time at my daughters soccer tournament. Little steps add up. I've got a phone app that will automatically track how much I walk as long as it's in my pocket too.

I was sleeved last Wed-the 12th. I am down 15 since then. Are you taking walks at all? That's what I've been doing to get things moving.

A must read for sleevers
Nell65 replied to cknapp319's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I downloaded it on my Kindle app for my phone. Great stuff in there and it kept me busy while I was in the hospital. -
Good luck Valerie-I hope everything goes as smooth for you as it has me.

My first BS in post op was 299! My body HATES injury or illness. So I was on 9 units. I am a type 2 with insulin also. I was on a cocktail of meds-glipazide, metformin, Lantus, Novalog and Victoza. At my highest-I was on a combo of about 60 units. Right now-only a sliding scale on the insulin. Today I needed 3 units around what would have been lunch time. Not sure if it adding my levoxyl or my lisnopril for the first time in today that bumped me up-they may have a starch filler with them. I've been running 127-159 since Wed. Today it was 179. Could have been the meds, that I added Crystal Light or more active. Who knows. That's why I did this surgery-no matter what I did-the numbers were all over the place. Good luck-over time I am sure the numbers will start to go into the normal range.

I am three days out too. I got down 33 oz of Water and 1 ice pop yesterday. I am on 18 oz right about now. I do the three small cups to sip on. I've not tried anything else yet. Just concentrating on hydration. I get to start Protein shakes on Monday and get to up my water to a ounce every 5 min instead of 20 min. Baby steps is the way I am looking at it. Don't look at the big picture-focus on that hour. Nell

Thanks everyone! I found the easiest way to drink-set alarms on your phone for every 5 mins for a sip of Water. This way I know I won't mess up the water! I have to drink 42oz a day. I bought small bottles-12 oz each, that means almost 4 of them a day for now. It's not as daunting that way. Slept really well last night in my recliner. Woke up to the best news-no insulin coverage! First time in 5 years-no insulin shot when I wake up. Only med I now take is my thyroid. I am loving my new journey! Nell

Orange County, NY & TriState Bariatrics
Nell65 replied to jill getskinnynow pasarell's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I am using Tri-State - tomorrow is my big day!!!! I have Dr. Cepeda for my surgeon. Help a newbie out-getting through this day of all liquids. I've had plain tea and now low sodium chicken broth. My blood sugars without meds this am were at 156. Not awful, but higher than I am used too lately. But I am off all meds until after the surgery. Which hosptial did you go for yours surgeries? I go to Port Jervis tomorrow and with the threat of a snow storm, already books the hubby for two nights into the hotel in Matamoras. So pass along tips-you have a few weeks on me. I am so ready for this to be over! LOL Nell -
Best of luck!!

I had my last meal last night too-Chinese also. But I had egg drop soup so it's all good. Today I am having nothing but clear liquids, tea, chicken broth and Powerade Zero orange. I was only put on restrictions the day before (today) and nothing after midnight. I'll be in bed between 8-9 anyway. Good luck to you!

Good afternoon everyone! Went out for my liquid day food. I bought for my Keurig-tea since I have to have caffeine at 3:45am since I can't have my java. Then I have clear chicken broth, apple juice, G2 clear, and sugar free ice pops. It's getting closer to Wednesday! I also filled all my meds that they gave me so I pick them up on Monday. My meds are reduced too for the day before-some of them the last I take will be on Monday. They'd rather I run a bit high for the surgery with the diabetes than go low during surgery. I think I won't drink apple juice until after as I haven't had any in years and might need it to get the pipes moving again. I am getting excited for this. When I get home, I will be on just insulin. But that's a good thing as it will be only as needed on a sliding scale. I'll have to test my blood sugars after at the times I'd normally eat and see where my sugars are. They are hoping since I'll be on Water only that I won't need any-but it's ok if I am as I know injury/surgery can raise sugars and drop off as you heal. Have a great rest of the weekend! Nell

Pre-op nerves and fears of regret- What to expect?
Nell65 replied to SleevesUp's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for the honest look into what we are all about to dive into. It's about changing our lifestyles for the better! It's about a time where we are feeling like a rollercoaster. Excited, nervous, anxious and wondering if this will be what we hope it will be. Keep positive. Baby steps to relearning how to maintain a healthier you. Sometimes when I start thinking too much, I get myself talked out of it. But then I am right back to no, this is what is going to be a great tool for me to get on with a better life. We all have moments of doubt about this surgery. But after seeing friends who have succeeded far beyond their wildest dreams and how much things have improved for them, it inspires me to write my own story that will be just as fantastic! Nell -
Got my shopping done for Tuesday!
Nell65 replied to Nell65's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you!!!! -
Mine didn't say I couldn't. She even told me that she'd never be able to do my hours without it either. I told them straight out-I get up for work at 3:45am, no way could I survive without my morning java. I am at my desk by 5am and I do a split shift 5-9 then 12-4ish. I'll drink tea for now, but when I get the green light-it's java time! LOL

I am brand new to this forum! I went yesterday for my surgical consult. I have been going since October 2013 to my group-Tri-State Bariatrics. My insurance had me lose 12lbs-well yesterday, I am down 13! So I am scheduled to have my surgery on Feb.12th. I even got all my pre-op blood work done too. Got all the papers signed and the green light is on! I am nervous and hopeful all at once. I have had type 2 diabetes since 1998. I was put on insulin in Feb.2009 when I fell on black ice-nasty stuff-for a trimaellor fracture with dislocation. I wasn't able to have the surgery because of the diabetes to put pins and plates in. I might have gotten an infection and ended up losing my leg from the knee down. I'd rather limp thank you. The insulin also promotes bone growth in diabetics-but honestly I have had enough of stabbing myself 4 times a day. I want the weight off as eventually the ankle will need to be fused and I want to put it off as long as possible-not bring it on quicker! My best friend was sleeved on July 3rd. She's now down 76lbs. She's my support and my sounding board. She's going to go with us when I go for the surgery. I am blessed to have someone like her in my life. Wishing everyone here best of luck! Let's get this new year off to a grand start.
