New to group, had op 29 Jan
Steph W-O replied to Molly Practice's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I described my full feeling to my husband like this: imagine going to a buffet and just eating and eating and eating until you're about to explode....only, it just takes a few bites to get me there. It's strange, because I can drink a full 12oz Protein shake but only take about 4 bites of chicken. So, I think the softer foods sit/pass differently (that's a guess) - so, to me, it's sounds like exactly what I'm going through. I can eat a full 4oz of cottage cheese and one of the 100 calorie wholly guacamole just fine. But when I get to actual meat, it just sits heavier and I can't eat as much. I hope that helps some... -
Did anyone get a video or photos during surgery?

I had surgery on 1/29 too! . I think maybe what you're experiencing is being full. While on liquids, I never got that feeling but when I switched to purée, yep-there it was. How much are you eating before getting that feeling? -
Forget about it.....and LIVE just like you said!!!

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE Help Me Choose! :)
Steph W-O replied to jazzyjess's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was originally thinking bypass and my surgeons PA said to me, "if you were my sister, I'd recommend the sleeve". There are fewer complications, fewer risks, faster recovery, and fewer long term effects-especially if you are on medications for other reasons. -
You can also go into GOALS and customize the number of calories, fat, etc you are aiming for each day. While the protein shows a percentage, as you change it, it shows you the equivalent number of grams, so you can set it that way.

Post-OP Vacation Q?
Steph W-O replied to supermom223's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 2.5 weeks out and have a vacation planned in 8 months, so will be looking for the same advice you're requesting now in a few months! . First, you look fantastic and I hope you have a wonderful vacation!!! . I think that wine will probably be your best bet. Maybe a Long Island ice tea without the soda (but whoa, take it easy if you do that)! . Vodka and cranberry juice or OJ. Maybe alternate a drink with a glass of Water to make sure you stay hydrated and to make sure the drink sits well on your stomach.... Anxious to hear about your vacation and what drinks you enjoy!!! -
Sleevers with Rheumatoid Arthritis
Steph W-O replied to dlm59's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have RA, as well but have been avoiding medication because of the effects on my weight! . I told myself that I was going to use this journey as also a way for me to go gluten free. I've been tested for celiac and other related allergies but the tests always came back negative. I've read so many articles on how gluten affects joint pain that I can't help but think that it couldn't hurt. I'm only 2.5 weeks post op, 27 lbs down, and have stayed gluten free since surgery....my joint pain has subsided!!! I don't know if it's the weight or gluten but I've not felt this good in years! I hope you all experience the same relief!!! ???? -
So my surgeon told me no sex for 4 weeks. I never questioned it because hubby and I have a blended family and rarely have a moment alone. Now, we have found ourselves kid less for a night and I'm trying to figure out why we can't! I can understand staying away from force on my stomach but hey, there is more than one way to have sex! . Your thoughts? I'm 2 1/2 weeks post, by the way, and have no soreness whatsoever anymore.

Thanks for that info!! -
Well, had my 2 week follow up and got permission to take a bath. Surgeon did tell me, however, that determination is based on how well my incisions have healed and not on timing. I hope that helps!

I'm 12 days post-op, no stitches, nothing. I never even thought to ask my surgeon but if like to take a bath. Any reason I can't?

Sleeve size? new/post op
Steph W-O replied to mikie71's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had no problems with the liquid shakes either. It's when you get to solids that you'll find that you can't take in as much. My surgeon says water canny stretch your pouch. -
Does anyone have any suggestions for pureed food

My surgeon said no alcohol until a year after surgery, as well. Interesting.

I had surgery in Wednesday and went back to work on Monday. I work a desk job and had not problems. I had little energy but got around just fine!

I'm with you all-which is why I like these boards so much! . I told my husband and I happened to run into a friend at one of my nutrition classes, so obviously she knows. And that's it! I only missed three days from work so no one really questioned it. I didn't even tell my kids. I'm embarrassed on one hand yet proud on another. But I'm also very private. I don't think it's anyone at work's business! Since my surgery (only 2 weeks ago) I feel very empowered, so....I may change my mind and scream it from the mountain tops eventually. ????????

when do you start to feel better?
Steph W-O replied to morgan53's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Like many have said, everyone is different. I was back to work after 5 days and did just fine. I felt a little stronger every day. Are you getting all if your protein in? I think that's the key to getting your energy back and feeling better! Hang in there-it will come!
