How much time off of work?
Steph W-O replied to MyKidsMom89's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had surgery on Wednesday and was back at work on Monday. I was tired easily but got by ok. I do have a desk job. I think it's hard to know ahead of time-people have such a variety of recovery times! -
Veterans, what do you miss most from your Pre-Op life?
Steph W-O replied to Elizabeth21's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Absolutely nothing! The daily aches, the labored breathing, carrying an extra 90+ pounds around - my lifestyle changes are NOTHING compared to what I've gained (metaphorically)! -
Mine was only 24 hours but haven't heard of not having one at all!

What do you miss most after Weight Loss Surgery?
Steph W-O replied to Menelly's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I was thinking the same thing. I'm 5 months out and have no problems drinking (not sipping) water! -
Need help with what to tell work.
Steph W-O replied to snowkitten's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hernia or fall bladder surgeries are similar. I didn't tell my boss anything. That IS your right to keep your health information private. . Good luck! -
You are going to succeed! Great job!

Only required to follow a 24 hour Pre-op plan. What to do 2-4 weeks before?
Steph W-O replied to Blazzrr's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I only had 24 hour pre surgery diet too. I admit; I splurged the weeks before. . I know that's bad BUT I have been 100% committed since surgery (I'm almost 5 months post surgery). so, certainly listen roentgen others and their suggested small changes! Best of luck! -
Ex-Friend Keeps Writing Negatively About Me on Different Blogs and Web Sites
Steph W-O replied to Sharon C.'s topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I don't think this really has anything to do with you-she's dealing with her own issues....and you happen to be there.... Sorry she's doing this to you! -
I haven't lied to anyone-I just didn't tell anyone I had surgery. I'm a very private person. I had surgery in my wrist for arthritis and didn't tell anyone about that either. I'm not ashamed nor am I looking for accolades. It's no ones business!

Music Festival a month after surgery?
Steph W-O replied to jessr0se's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You should be fine. You may not have all of your energy yet but you will be ok. Pack lots of water and smart food options for yourself and have fun! Your life is about to change for the better!!! -
I bought women's shoes for the first time in a loooooong time! Sad, I know. I've been wearing men's shoes because my feet were so wide (fat)!!

first real meal after sleeve
Steph W-O replied to right for me?'s topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I did a lot of things in the crock pot because they turn out so tender. Any kind of chicken breast in the crockpot - even did a meatloaf....everything was so tender that I could eat it all....only a little of it, but went down and sat on my tummy fine. The advice to start slow is right. Don't go for pizza or fast food. Be gentle on your new stomach...you're still healing. -
Has any of the past sleevers not lost hair?
Steph W-O replied to Tammylb's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon says it's based on meeting your protein goals immediately after surgery...... -
Thank you all for your input and suggestions for my daughter. I appreciate your time and wish you all the best of luck. Dealing with the weight issue is tough enough-I'm sure adding this issue makes things even more challenging!!
-
Thank you so much for your detailed response! I'm so sorry that you've had to go through so much but appreciate you sharing your experiences! I've taken notes and am going to follow your advice-never realized that she might see an endocrinologist. I'm going to look into that. The only thing she's on now is birth control pills but they are looking at starting her on the metformin in July. I'm just trying to educate myself on all of this now so I can help lead her down the right path. Again, thank you so much for your information!!!

I hate to hi-jack this thread but it caught my eye because my 15 (just turned 15) year old daughter was just diagnosed with this. Do you think this condition led to your initial weight gains? Any words of wisdom for a mom of a teen with this....for now and/or in the future. Thanks for any information you might share. Her doctor really kind of scared me with all the "high risk" problems associated with this!

How long till you feel normal
Steph W-O replied to vincereautmori's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I felt normal as soon as I was able to take in more than just liquids....which was week 3 for me! -
Patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis
Steph W-O replied to slothritis's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have RA and decided, since I was changing my life, I was going all-in and went gluten free from day 1 post surgery, even though I have tested negative for celiac and all other gluten sensitivities. I am almost 3 months out, 60 pounds down, am off all RA meds and have no pain. Two weeks ago, I "cheated" and had a small piece of bread and woke up with my RA pain in my arm, wrist and elbow. It subsided again after a few days. I fully attribute the pain being gone to going gluten free and not the weight loss. Although both "perks" have made me very happy!!! ????. -
I would think that soon would be very challenging. You will be weak even though you'll probably feel ok. You will also still be limited on what you're eating during that phase and might find it difficult to make good choices and get enough Water. I feel like I bounced back quickly so I feel like my advice is "best case scenario". I was back to work 4 days after surgery and doing fine....but certainly wasn't myself for a few weeks.

After doing week 3 day 3 three times, I graduated to week 4 day 1!

Sports after surgery
Steph W-O replied to yodasplash's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's really going to be how quickly YOU can tolerate it. I was running after 4 weeks, so I would think you will be fine 3,4, or 5 weeks out or so.... -
Hungry Headaches-Post-Op
Steph W-O replied to joyann45's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 2 months out and my answer is no. Hunger used to give me headaches to the point of migraines if I went too long. I also used to get light-headed and even dizzy. Now, all of that is GONE!!!! So thankful! -
I'm curious about this-how does it work. If my surgeons office offers this, I'm not aware of it. What type of ace would you go to have one done on your own (ie general practitioner, personal trainer, etc)? I free that mine is very low since I've struggled with weight my whole life.... Thanks!

Could I be dehydrated?
Steph W-O replied to Steph W-O's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I saw my doc today. He says that I'm back in ketosis. He says that I've lost so much weight so quickly that it was inevitable. I've lost 18% of my body weight in two months, which is apparently very fast. I'm doing well, so he told me to keep on chugging along! Thank you all very your feedback and suggestions!!! -
I'm 7 weeks post-op today. For the last 3-5 days, I've been waking up and feeling dehydrated. My fingers feel a little swollen and my urine is dark yellow. I've been very thirsty too. I have not changed my diet or exercise during this time and I always get at least 64oz Water each day (usually more). What could be going on ?
