If you really feel that unsatisfied file a complaint with the better business bureau. They at a minimum owe you an explanation. By the way you might be able to save some money if you buy a plan off of the exchange that covers wls. You'll still likely have out of pocket expenses but you're getting an insurance contract discount which sometimes can be less than a self pay discount Good luck

Not Covered! Any Luck on Appeals?
jujubslim replied to UpandAtom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Is this a group plan offered through an employer? United health care typically covers weight loss surgery. However an employer can opt out of certain coverage. If it's your employer not covering then you may have a hard time with an appeal. If it's United healthcare denying I would appeal, attach documentation from their website where they outline wls benefits. I'll look for a link if you need it. I have read in forums about people's successful appeals. Good luck -
Insurance paying for protein drinks....
jujubslim replied to leo0704's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Great info! Can everyone please post updates if they're approved and shipped? I'm preop but as soon as my surgery is scheduled I'm going to try. I'm curious if that's standard rx coverage Thanks -
You got this keep your eye on the prize!

anyone else expiernce this?
jujubslim replied to katt1584's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sounds peculiar most insurances have pre op requirements. I'd call them and double check the requirements and make sure you're approved? I just read someone else's story where they're stuck with a $130k Bill. -
What I did learn is apparently I have a narrow esophagus that makes my gag reflex very sensitive.

Upper gi has been the worst so far. Ick!! The barium was horrible, I gagged after every sip and had an upset stomach for 2 days.

IS THIS HAPPENING WITH YOUR WEIGHT LOSS?
jujubslim replied to Slim2016's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
It happens. I try to weigh myself at the same time of day, usually first thing in the morning. I've weighed myself more than once in a day and it can fluctuate throughout the day. -
being screwed by insurance.....
jujubslim replied to kyleebean's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You're best best is to appeal at this point. Go online look up your policy and see if you can find any mention of a cap. If it's a plan offered through your employer discuss it with hr. Not sure what exactly your situation is but also check with your hospitals financial counseling, they may be able to help you see if you're eligible for Medicaid or charity care. Sometimes if you have an existing medical condition you can get retroactive coverage if you're eligible. Sorry to hear what you're going through. -

Did you already have the surgery and lap band removal? -
I go to bed earlier than my husband and it would drive me nuts when he came to bed and turned the lights on. Got a mask and I love it. I don't even notice when he comes in now. As far as the tv don't be afraid to ask him to compromise a bit. He can use headphones and a tablet and you'll use a mask, then everyone is happy. On another note you'd be surprised how many happy couples have separate rooms. Some say it spices up your love life. You can have sleep overs occasionally and you'll have privacy or time for yourself when you need it.

sad and scared about gallbladder removal after sleeve
jujubslim replied to awold0's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's not a reflection of what you did or didn't do. Don't beat yourself up, you'll be fine. Gallstones are very common after wls. My doctor said I was very lucky I already had my gallbladder out years ago before surgery. That's one less thing to worry about after. -
I'm disappointed....
jujubslim replied to EggWithLegs's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Remember it's not the number of pounds you lose, it's what % of your excess. If you have a higher bmi weight loss numbers look huge compared to someone with a lower bmi. -
Wow I didn't know that. I hope my vision gets better it's horrible!!

Whose start weight is 255 or more?
jujubslim replied to cheyenneb's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm 255 now, have lost 7 lbs so far during pre op. Surgery will be in March -
I've only shared with my husband & daughter for now, they're both supportive, my husband is a little nervous about surgery but he hasn't tried to talk me out of it. I recently told my supervisor & director just to give them a heads up that I'd be taking time off, they were both very supportive. Other than that I don't plan to really share too much info until after surgery. I'm still coming to terms with it myself I dont really want to negativity and judgement right now.

I had my medical clearance today and was shocked at what the Nurse Practitioner said to me...
jujubslim replied to gohelpyourself's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In reading different forums for a few months the trend I've seen is once people stop tracking what they eat daily, start incorporating those bad foods into their diet again, don't keep up on Protein and Water they start gaining again. I've heard the further you're out from surgery the harder it gets because we fall into old habits. This is a lifelong battle for us, stay the course, once you reach goal the battle isn't over. I've learned so much from all the valuable advice from generous people that have shared their stories (successes and failures). -
I tried one the other day, it wasn't horrible but it left a weird feeling in my mouth afterwords. Like I licked a cat. lol

I'll be scheduling my surgery in a couple weeks, the doctor says sometime in March. I'm actually testing out Protein drinks. I have a spreadsheet going with all the different drinks, their protein, calories, carbs etc. So far I really like the Muscle Milk Tried Pure Protein.... eh... it wasn't great but I could drink it if I absolutely had to. Tried Premier Protein, it has a little more protein than Muscle Milk and it was pretty good. I've been hearing lots of great things about Syntrax Nectars, BJBariatrics.com sells sample packs that I'll be ordering. I've also heard people rave about unjury. They sell a starter kit that comes with a shaker and thermometer, Defintely trying this too. http://www.unjury.com/store/protein/unjury-protein/unjury-starter-pack.html
