I have gallstones already, so I asked the surgeon to remove my gallbladder at the same time. Apparently it's not something they regularly do in Ottawa. I'm very happy they're going to do both, saves a second surgery. June 19th cannot come soon enough for me. I start my liquid diet in 29th of May.

I know exactly how you feel. I have clothes that go from a size 14 to size 22. And my 22's are tight, lol. But I'm not doing any more shopping until I lose a significant amount of weight. What kind of liquid diet have they put you on?

Your pre op diet sounds way better than mine!! Lol. I guess we are both having it the same day, because I'm the 19th of June as well. I'm nervous because I've gained about ten pounds since my last appointment. Not because of food though, I wish! My surgeon insists on chewable, crushable or liquid medications for the first two months post-op, and I had to change antidepressants because Wellbutrin XL can't be crushed. My pharmacist and therapist decided liquid Prozac was the way to go and started me on last month, to ensure I can tolerate it ok prior to surgery. I'm hoping the Opti-fast liquid diet helps me shed the extra pounds. I'd hate to have my surgery postponed because a medication caused more weight gain instead of loss during my waiting period for surgery.

Mine is four Opti-Fast shakes a day and nothing else but water or green tea. For three weeks! Lol. That's why I'm nervous about it.

The BIG Book on the Gastric Bypass!

I have already read the book from cover to cover, but I finally got my RNY surgery date booked. I'm going in on June 19th. So I guess I'm going to read it again, just to make sure I'm really prepared for this journey. I told my kids and husband that going forward, my new birthday will be June 19th, because that's the day my new life begins. -

Hi everyone! I finally got the call for my surgery date yesterday, mine is going to be on June 19th. I have to start my Opti-fast liquid diet on May 29th. Any other RNY peeps out there that have tried the Opti-Fast and how are you finding the taste? And the all liquid diet itself, is it tough??

Time is standing still. Waiting for my GB inOttawa Ontario.

I received surgical approval yesterday, February 27th. The surgeon said to expect a surgery date within the next one to three months. I've already purchased my 3 week supply of. Optifast shakes. I have to drink four a day and nothing else for 21 days leading up to surgery. Liver shrinking and all that jazz, lol. I bought all the vitamins for the first two months post op- either liquid or chewable. I've even bought smaller bowls and plates to use after surgery. I've read about eight books on Roux-en Y gastric bypass. I'm pretty much set, ready to go. I am wishing that it'll be one month vs the three month wait. I started my process in May 2013. So eager for the actual surgery. I'm so excited I'm having trouble sleeping. Anyone else experiencing this? -
Yah, a year does seem like it's taking forever. I will be happy when I get the call with my surgery date. I have prepped as much as I can. Bought everything that I need post-surgery. I'm not working, so time is virtually standing still at this point. Any suggestions on how to pass the time? Lol.

It's normal in Ontario. I'm actually lucky the process is only going to take one year total. I know of people waiting two to three years for surgery. Our OHIP, (Ontario Health Insurance Plan), is paid for by our income tax deductions. So no out of pocket costs, or insurance to deal with for approval. But it makes wait times for any kind of surgery long. And gastric bypass is considered to be an "elective" surgery, believe it or not, lol. My cousin had GB done at the same hospital three years ago and her duration from beginning consult to surgery was only nine months. She was lucky. A friend of mine, had hers there too, last August. And her duration was over two years. So, if mine only takes a year total, I'm ok with that. But I have been wanting surgery for ten years. So the waiting seems like it's been forever. The Ottawa hospital has only been performing gastric bypass for about four years. Before that, patients had to travel to Toronto to have it done. About a five hour drive. We're lucky to have it in our city now. But I'm still frustrated with the waiting game. I'm a naturally impatient person, so that doesn't help. Lol.

I bought and read it cover to cover. Very informative.
