Any tips?? Starting on Monday. Do you know if you can use mint? Herbal teas? I know you can't use sweetener natural or artificial.

I am 2 years out from my surgery and was no longer tracking anyway. My blood work is normal and I feel good so I don't worry about it. Plus with the whole 30 you are not tracking anything. You don't count calories or even weigh yourself. The program is focused on eating healthy whole foods and breaking bad habits.
-
I just started whole 30 last week. I am not tracking Protein and do not miss dairy. I feel great and I lost 8 lbs in two weeks. I have been stalled for 6 months. I'll update when the 30 days are over but so far I am loving it.

We are over a year out! I want to hear how everyone is doing!
Laurensloss replied to Avryv's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Doing good! Learning how to navigate life with my new stomach and new size. I am stuck at 185 for a few months now. I decided not to stress about it. I would like to lose at least another 15 lbs but I also know what it is going to take. I know why I am stalled. I have let some bad foods back in my diet. Exercise is a huge part of my life now and I have been telling myself it is ok to splurge even though I know it is not. All in all I am very happy with this decision. I wish I had a little more restriction and I wish that my sweet tooth went away! I lost 85 lbs in total and I feel so much better. I think maybe we are all at the point where we need a restart on our diets and to get back on track?!?? -

That is correct that most people will not lose 100% of their excess weight. I am 13 months out and have lost almost exactly 65% of my excess weight. I of course want to lose 30 more lbs. It will be much harder to lose that 30 than it was to lose the 82 that I have lost. I do not think I will lose 100% of my excess weight and it is not a goal of mine right now. My goal is the 85% and I am giving myself the next year to get to that. I do get discouraged when I see some people are at their goal already. I have to accept that my metabolism and body make up is different. I exercise 5 days a week but at a year out I can eat anything and I have to use my will power to stick to my diet. Regardless of what the doctors say just don't get discouraged and try your best to do above and beyond what they say. Remember they are giving an average and some people who have this surgery do not follow through with the lifestyle change. Good Luck! -

Hi, I think you are asking all the right questions. It is a big decision and you want to make sure that you really need to do it. Your weight is low but being that you are short I can understand why you want to lose weight. I am 5'3 and I have always been over weight. I think the number one question you should ask yourself is...If you tried to lose the weight on your own through diet exercise and dedication, could you do it? Getting the sleeve is like starting a diet that you can not get off until 6 months later. You will lose a lot in the beginning but it will not be as much as others lose. I think when you have less to lose you will experience less severe side effect. If your skin has not been stretched as much as someone who is 300lbs then you will not have much lose or saggy skin. Also you will experience hair loss from the hormone change but it might not be as much. In the beginning your social life will be effected because you won't be happy going out to eat or going to social events with food. For the first few months you will feel different about food and it might be upsetting. Now that I am over a year out I am fine going places with food and eating a little bit. I think losing weight will be good for your energy level and after you feel more normal (6 months post op) you will be happy you did it. For me I knew I wanted to do it because I had already tried several times and had lost a good amount of weight and always gained it back. I am now smaller than I have ever been. The last time I weighed this weight was in 10th grade. So I guess you have to look at the pros and cons and see what is best for you. -

Dancing after surgery
Laurensloss replied to belovedlove's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi, They want you active right away after surgery. Since the surgery is laprascopic you are able to do more sooner than you would if you had a different surgery. I started walking right away. I think they recommended waiting until 6 weeks out to really start pushing yourself. You will feel weak in the beginning because of the liquid diet so you will want to take it easy anyway. You could always do your routines but just modify it to be lower impact. Good Luck! -

Yes it gets better. I had horrible gas pain the first and second day. By the end of the second day it was almost gone. I walked but I think it really just needed time to get out. Now day three and I just have minor pains and have been able to pass gass. The gas pain was worse first me than the incisions and internal pain.

My surgery was on wed april 9th. Everything went well but the gas was so painful. Im feeling so much better but I woke up feeling very shaky and weak. Is this normal? I am getting all my fluids in. The doctor doesn't want me to start Protein drinks until monday. Any advice would be helpful.

I have my surgery on wednesday. I am just looking for some last minute pointers. I have done all of my research and I feel ready but I want to make sure I am fully prepared. I have to go on Clear liquids all day tuesday and then after surgery I will be on clear liquids until mon 4/14. What exactly can you drink on clear liquids? Is there anything I should bring to the hospital? Am I going to be totally exhausted afterward? What should I have on hand in the house after surgery? I am starting to get anxious so I would appreciate any advice from post op people. Thanks!

Undecided lap band vs sleeve
Laurensloss replied to Laurensloss's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have decided to go with the sleeve. The reoperation rate is high with the lap band and its more maintinance than the sleeve. I don't want to take a chance with multiple operations. Thanks for all the advice I can't wait until my surgery in April.
