Ok, I have been very curious about what causes the infamous left shoulder pain that most of us have experienced after surgery. So I did a search and I came across this article in the Washington Post regarding Lapband surgery and having your Vagus nerve snipped also! It seems that they did a study and the patients who got their nerve snipped along with lapband surgery had a better results as opposed to just doing the lapband alone. Could Nerve-Snipping Spur Weight Loss? - washingtonpost.com

ROSE!!!! You have a ticker AND a picture!!!!! Good for you. Even I haven't tried to figure out how to put a picture up yet. How are you doing? Looking forward to seeing you at the luncheon. Are you going to the Mississauga one also? Let me know if you need a ride. Would love the company. -
Hi Jacklyn, You are probably in surgery right about now but I wanted to let you know my thoughts are with you. Welcome to Bandland!!!:whoo:

Tomorrow is the big day. Come on people!
Lianna170 replied to intheburgh's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Good luck tomorrow! You will be just fine. You WILL wake up and then you will be on the losing side! It is very normal to question your decision. I am 4 weeks post op and have absolutely no regrets. -
Sleeping with the band.....On Stomach.........
Lianna170 replied to Ginaki's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I started sleeping on my stomach 2 weeks after my surgery. I haven't had any problems at all. Trust me, you will sleep on your back with a few pillows behind your head after your surgery. I didn't think I would be able to either but it really wasn't a problem. I think about a week after surgery I ended up on my side and then on my tummy. -
Hi Everybody, I just came back from my 2 week follow up appointment and everything is great. Met with Sue (nurse), got weighed and she checked the incisions. Took all of 5 minutes as I really didn't have any questions. I told her that I lost most of my restriction a couple of days ago and food is sliding down no problem. I still don't eat a huge portion of food at a sitting, but I do get hungry a few hours after eatting. So she said that if I tolerate the soft foods without any problem, I can get a fill at 4 weeks post-op. Just thought I would let any newbie's like me know this as I had always assumed they would never do a fill before 6 weeks at the SWLC. So life on the bandster side is great! No regrets so far. I know it will become a bit more challenging again once I am restricted as the chewing of food a gazillion times really comes into play. I am so glad I did this :whoo::whoo::whoo::whoo:

Have some fun at November Luncheon !!
Lianna170 replied to rose suongas's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hey Rose, It sounds like you are doing great with your first fill. Damn that pogo though!:faint: I hear you about wanting to put on some sexy jeans and a leather jacket! I am just waiting until I can fit into my "skinny clothes" again. Who said patience is a virtue????? Maybe you shouldn't go for your second fill if you are feeling restricted enough? Just my thought. I just came back from my 2 week follow up appointment and told the nurse that I have very little restriction anymore so it seems the swelling has really gone done which is a good thing. She said that if I am tolerating soft foods well next week, I should call them and book my fill at the 4 week point after surgery. I'm sure I will be ready for it the way things are just sliding down my throat right now. It sounds like life is very busy for you right now with your family. I applaud you for handling all of this and staying on top of your weight loss. I know it can't be easy. I am going to email my Aunt RIGHT NOW and ask about that Dr's name and number for you. Looking forward to catching up with you at the November lunch! HUGSSSSSS Lianna -
Hi Beau, Glad to hear you are doing well. Boy, your tummy looks exactly like mine as far as where the incisions are.

Hey Rose, How are you doing girl? You know I'm in! I love Papp's and haven't been there in a long time. -
I can join the dry mouth group also! It's been 2 weeks since my surgery and I still need to constantly sip water. Not a bad thing though as we need to stay hydrated and it does help with the weight loss.

Hugs Crispy! This is not an easy decision. All I can say is that I had a few doubts going into surgery and even did a last meal WHILE I was on Optifast. It was like I was in a period of mourning for all the food I wouldn't be able to eat after being banded AND that I wouldn't be able to comfortably eat large amounts ever again. So silly that I would miss gulping down a big meal, isn't it? I guess not really but that's what I had convinced myself of before surgery. I am not just over a week out from surgery and it is so much easier being able to accept this new lifestyle being on the other side. It is often the fear of the unknown that get's to us. Right now, I am just enjoying the rewards of eatting small amounts and am fascinated that I am able to be satisfied in doing so. Plus, I now get to reap the rewards of doing this by losing weight. For me, it has been easier after the surgery as opposed to before. I am looking forward to Christmas being a slimmer me. I am looking forward to next February when I go away to Jamaica because I know I will feel better and look better when I am sitting on the beach in a bathing suit. I am looking forward to spring when all the new summer clothes are out because I will be able to buy them and feel and look good! It is these things that motivate me now.:whoo:

I'm doing really well. Onto mushies now and really enjoying oatmeal in the morning. Looking forward to being fully healed and back to 100%. I'm sure I will be able to make the lunch and would love to travel together. How are you doing?
-
Hi Ladies, I would love to join you for lunch but am a bit hesitant to commit so far in advance with hubby and kids all clawing for my attention:omg:
-
Hi Beau, I hope you enjoy the beautiful drive to Mississauga. I'm sorry to hear that you don't have any support from your husband...that must make things very difficult. But you are embarking on a new life and that is very exciting for you. Good luck on Friday, you will be fine!

How the Lap-Band actually works, fills and refills
Lianna170 replied to Wendell Edwards's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thank you for posting this information Wendell. An informed lapbander is a happier lapbander! -
Hi Beau, Good luck on Friday! I also liked both the vanilla and chocolate Optifast and am a little sorry that I can't drink a whole serving in one shot now that I am banded.

Jacklyn, I concur with Caramia....Dr. Mumford is an absolute doll. He was great during my consult and made me feel very at ease when he spoke with me before going into surgery. The day after surgery I got two calls, one from Tammy (nurse) and another one in the evening from Dr. Mumford. When I was brought downstairs to get into the car after surgery, Dr. Mumford saw my husband helping me into the car and came over and introduced himself and told him how well the surgery went. I have no hesitation in recommending him or the clinic!

Hi Everybody, I had my surgery at 9:30 am today and everything went very well. I was up and out of the clinic by noon. Lucky the anesthetic wore off very quickly. Everybody at the clinic were amazing! I don't have the typical gas pain in my left shoulder but I do have a dull ache in my back. I took one dose of liquid codeine at 7pm and figure I will take one more right before bedtime just to take off the edge. I even went for a walk around the block and it's almost 10 pm and I'm not tired yet. Luckly, I am a quick healer so I am thankful for that. I am really looking forward to some nice tomatoe Soup tomorrow! Thank you for all your good thoughts and I'm glad to be an official bandster now.....LET THE LOSING BEGIN!
-
Congratulations Jacklyn! I remember how exciting it was to get my consult appointment. If you want to go ahead with the surgery, they will book the date at your consult. You just have to have the $500 deposit and then the remaining balance is due 2 weeks prior to surgery. The clinic staff is absolutely amazing and very professional. Please feel free to ask any questions....we are all here to help!

If you are Traveling South this Winter...
Lianna170 replied to peaches9's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Wow Peaches, thank you for telling us this! We are planning to go to Jamaica in February and I am a little concerned about any problems I may have with the band when I'm down there. -
Thanks for the good wishes everybody! Yes, you were right about the tomato soup being a full liquid. Didn't have it until Saturday. So I am now back on the Optifast shakes and soup for the next week. I'm not really hungry and am trying to drink lots of Water. Rose: Would love to meet you for coffee sometime soon! I really feel like I'm a part of the "group" now that I am banded. Maybe we can arrange something over the next week or so? I told one of my daughters why I had the surgery and she didn't take it too well. I regret telling her. My other daughter just thinks that I had an exploratory surgery for stomach problems. I took Thursday off for the surgery and of course was home from work on Friday. I'm heading back to work on Monday and can't wait to get out of the house!!

I am scheduled for my surgery at 9:30am tomorrow morning. I can't believe it is almost here! I am excited and nervous and am really hoping that the gas pain isn't that bad. I just want to heal and start watching the weight drop off! I will see all of you in bandsterland!:whoo:
-
Count me in too! I will be a bandster by then and can't wait! One more day to go for me.

I just wanted to say it was great to meet everyone yesterday. I'm so glad I came out to hear all the stories before my big banding day this Thursday. Everybody looked so happy!
