    One year later !

You look lovely and so happy. Good for you!
  4. Glad to hear that you are home and doing well. I know what you mean about the food commercials-every time I'm recovering from a GI bug or fasting for some reason, they drive me crazy!

    Surgery date set:)

Good for you, Shannon. Wishing you all success.
  7. I'm having a lot of the same issues. I was looking at the contents of my cart in the grocery store and thinking that it really told the tale- half low carb, high protein stuff, shakes to try, fruits and veggies and the other half pure junk that was calling my name. I'm glad to hear that it's not just me struggling with this mindset, but I keep telling myself to use this preop time wisely to try and practice healthy new habits. One day at a time, I guess...
  8. You look amazing! Thanks for posting your transformation

    Friends

Perhaps your friend has cared for a loved one with an illness that causes dramatic weight loss and is projecting that fear onto you? When people see someone lose a great deal of weight quickly, they often assume the worst. Even though she knows that you're not ill(just the opposite), it may be difficult to reconcile that for her. If you feel well, are following your prescribed eating plan, please don't let this get in your way. I'm no therapist, but you can never go wrong by being kind and reassuring her of your improved health and outlook. Good luck to you, sounds like you're doing great!
  10. So great to hear that you're ok. Hope your pain control continues to improve and that you're home to your family soon.
  11. Great article. Thanks so much for starting this website, I'm finding it so helpful.
  12. Hope all went well and you're comfortable. You'll be home to your daughter in no time.
  13. I enjoyed reading your post. Ordered the celebrate sample pack, and I'm looking forward to the "fat girl's dream come true" as I've yet to find a protein powder I can tolerate/enjoy. Good luck to you tomorrow! Hope you don't have to drink anything that smells like butt:)

    Who Are You?

Hi, I'm a 55 year old separated woman living in snowy NJ with my 23 year old special needs daughter. I also have an older daughter who has blessed me with a wonderful son in law and 2 grandsons(4 and almost 2). I'm a veterinarian and have been practicing for over 30 years, from large animals to shelter medicine and small animal practice. I have a one year old akita pup that I show and hope to train as a therapy dog as well. Love to sing, travel, read and am looking forward to more opportunities to run around with the dog when I'm more svelte. I'm blessed with amazing friends and am so much more than just a number on the scale, as are we all.
  15. For me it was a gradual dawning that in not finally dealing with my weight I was placing limitations on myself. I've been overweight almost all of my life, and obese for the past 10-15 years. On meds for hypertension for years and just had to start metformin for "prediabetes". I was lucky enough to take a trip to Greece this summer and my knees were hurting so badly I could barely walk- I was determined not to miss the Acropolis, but it's quite a climb. I made it, but all the while I was thinking-when are you going to deal with your weight, once and for all? The past 3 years have brought many changes to my life, loss of a beloved son to cancer, separation from my husband of 25 years, caring for our special needs daughter as a single parent-but I have finally realized that I need to take care of me, I deserve to take care of me and it is not selfish to do so. I know that it will not be easy, I realize that it is a lifelong commitment to totally revamp my relationship with food, but I am ready and excited to have an effective tool to use to assist me.

Personally, I think you look amazing!
  17. Hey Jerziegirl, Good luck tomorrow! Hope your trip to Philly isn't too awful in the weekly storm of the century, and surgery and recovery are smooth as silk. Thinking of you and everyone who is about to undergo WLS.

    What is your theme song?

"Feels Like Today" by Rascal Flatts. Love the lyrics
  19. Hi, Jerziegirl I'm sure that when I get close to my surgery date, I'll be nervous as well. You sound like you've done a lot of research, you're going to a highly regarded bariatric program and you have planned well for your recovery. You've got this! I can't wait to hear about your continued success. Wishing you all the best!

8 Months and 9 Days GOAL!

    So amazing! What an accomplishment.
  21. Hi, GIMB I'm not sleeved yet and new to this site, but I wanted you to know that I wish you well. From what I've read, many people have issues a couple of years out, but the sleeve is still there, ready to work for you. If your surgeon's office and his staff have not been helpful(and from your posts, it sounds that way), you could always place yourself under the care of a different group. I have reflux too, but my surgeon said that he's almost always able to manage it. It must be so hard to still have that pain after all of this time. I hope that you get the help and support you need and deserve. Don't be down on yourself for leaving the path, just get the advice you need to get back on it. Wishing you every success.

    Tasting Room - Protein Drinks

I'm also thrilled to find this thread, because I decided to be proactive and find Protein shakes I could actually tolerate(if not enjoy). My surgery won't be for at least 3months, but I'm concerned about having to rely on Protein Shakes. So far I've tried: Premier chocolate RTD- tastes ok at first but then there's that protein aftertaste. Syntax nectar chocolate truffle- I really wanted to like this, made it w Water in a Blender Bottle and just couldn't deal with it. Will try again with milk/ice in the blender. Syntrax nectar cappuccino- did this one in the blender w 1% milk and ice cubes! much less aftertaste:) Atkins RTD mocha latte- pretty tasty actually, but 160 cal and 9 g fat. Not sure if that will be within my guidelines from NUT. Still have to try unjury flavors and chicken Soup. Also a powder called Body Fortress was noted on a website I looked at: bariatric foodie.com. Bought a book on amazon called " The Bariatric Foodie Guide to Perfect Protein Shakes" and that has loads of recipes once I find a Protein Powder I can deal with. Good luck, everyone!
  23. Congrats on getting through a tough first week. Hope next week goes more smoothly and you feel better.

  25. This must be the thread for short ladies-I'm 5"1'! Not 30 though, I'm 55 and also have my daughter's welfare in mind(she's 23 but has special needs). I'm glad to have such a wonderful group of people to offer advice and share experiences with.
