Hi blackjetta12... Thanks for your birthday wishes and kind words. For me if I'm being completely honest the hardest thing has been staying regular. I have a lazy bowel so I do take Miralax and Metamucil and try to eat fiber rich foods. I think the other thing that has been difficult for me is not being afraid to expand the types of food I eat. I had the RNY and my motto is "love the pouch...fear the pouch...respect the pouch" who I named Bob by the way. I always have a soft insulated cooler with water and food. I pack it differently depending on the day. Everybody is on different eating plans but I have 3 meals and 2 snacks everyday...glad to answer any questions

May 2014 RNY/Bypass Post Op Support Group
angelface811 replied to Purple Iris's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi everybody I am so glad you posted back on this thread. I had surgery May 5th and I'm down 77 pounds. I have 23 more to go. I never dreamed I would be at this stage yet. I am a size 10 now started as an 18. I was wondering do any of you have tummy tenderness from time to time? The only thing I really struggle with is constipation. But hopefully as I add more foods that will improve. Still doing miralax and Metamucil...I do have a lazy bowel. One really neat thing. I was able to mentor my best friend and she just had her RNY. She did have melena...old rectal blood come out but it stopped. I'm afraid she is going to push it to fast but I hope she listens to her body. I will be having my 6 month post op on a few weeks and praying that all my numbers and counts are good. -
I am now 5 months out from my RNY and my surgeons goal was for me to lose 100 lbs. I have lost 77lbs. I can't believe I only have 23 pounds to go. Started as a size 18 now I am a size 10. My bday is this upcoming week...probably the best bday present ever!!

In my pre-surgery program we are given a list of forever no's...carbonation is one of them. I had surgery at one of the top research hospitals in the U.S. Which in itself doesn't ensure success but there program is extremely strict. The doctors in the bariatric program have noticed a "gateway drug" to gaining back weight. Those were their words not mine. They said those RNY patients go back to drinking carbonated beverages. Obviously from some of the prior posts some people have gone back to drinking those things and have been fine. For myself, however, I plan to stay away.

I agree. Having WLS changes everything. We have to be especially attentive to any sort of tummy issues. From where the food enters to where it exits. We are not the "normal" patient. I would call either your surgeon or doctor but whoever you do see make sure they know of your surgery it changes everything. They are likely to be more attentive and less dismissive. Good Luck!!

Need positive support

I'm sorry things are off to a rough start. I also had my own rough patch in the beginning. Things will get better. Try to get some liquid in even if it's just an ounce at a time. Try different positions when you are drinking and eating like standing up or sitting at a straight 90• ...for some people that get overly full or really nauseous sometimes walking helps. Perhaps it's just gravity. Being dehydrated is not fun...I haven't personally dealt with being dehydrated enough to go to the hospital but there are signs to watch for. You definitely have to hit a sweet spot nutritionally to lose weight. Sounds like your keeping up great communication with your healthcare providers, you will conquer this little bump in the road. -
Acid indigestion? Maybe? Help...
angelface811 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello everybody thank you for taking your precious time to read my posts. I am 4 months out of having laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery and in the last 2 days have had at times an icky taste in my mouth as well as a feeling of acid indigestion and mild tummy pain. I am on Prevacid once per day. I also have to take Miralax every day to stay regular. I am currently eating between 800-900 calories per day and 75-85 grams of protein and hydrating very well. Could it simply be acid indigestion? Anyone else experience this? Any input is welcomed... -

gallbladder woes
angelface811 replied to pookybear's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree Laparoscopic Gallbladder surgery is a piece of cake compared to the RNY. I think the time you are taking off is great. I had mine out pre-RNY. You will do great! -
How do you shop for a rapidly changing weight?
angelface811 replied to hopetochangemylife's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Luckily I had family and friends who were smaller than me and I put the word out. If you guys have clothes you don't want pass them to me please. I can make my tops last longer because I will belt them. If I don't have a pair of jeans in my current size I go to Ross or Burlington and spend between $10-$15 on a pair. Use thrift stores and yard sales. I did experience my feet getting smaller from a 10 to a 9 and my feet aren't as wide. My head is also smaller as I love wearing cute hats. I'm dropping sizes faster than I thought. Three months out from a size 18 to a 12. I have never been smaller than a 10 in my adult life. So I'm interested to see where my body decides to end up at. Size 10 was perfectly fine for me. Had 100 pounds to lose and I have lost 62 so far. There have been some hurdles but very happy with my decision and the positive effect it has had on my health. -
In my pre-surgery program carbonation, gum and drinking through straws were all forever dont's. My surgeon told me he has found that of his patients that start putting weight back on they have one thing in common. A particular gateway "drug" in common. Soda...so I plan to stay away.

I absolutely experienced the same thing. I think a bit more intensely than others. I had a total of 4 incisions. One incision was slightly larger which was on my left side. My surgeon said that was incision he used the most. The burning lasted about 6 weeks consistently and will happen every now and again which I was told was completely normal. But it was pretty bad. Putting a heating pad on my back and lightly on my lower tummy helped. As well as the Vicodin and muscle relaxer. I had to minimize taking that medicine because it caused constipation so be aware of that. It will get better...

Weak and nauseous
angelface811 replied to xoxdeetee385xox's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't believe it is safe for her to be taking NSAID's at all because they can cause a potential bleed in the stomach. Please check with her doc ASAP I wouldn't want her to cause a more serious complication. Everything will get better. Patience is the key to this process. I initially had horrible muscle spasms and I had to treat with a prescribed muscle relaxer and Vicodin and a heating pad. I had to compensate with some extra stool softener because these meds tend to constipate you. Always run meds and supplements by the surgeon and even the pharmacist in regards to the WLS surgery to make sure it's safe. I hope this helps... -

How did you guys progress your foods...I had surgery may 5th and still really can't anything with crunch...maybe I'm just afraid of hurting my insides...how many calories do you consume a day? -
I had bypass and am losing some hair as well. I didn't want to color my hair because I noticed it was also becoming more brittle. So my hairdresser puts a glaze in it. No chemicals. But my hair is dark brown. So we change the hue a little to like honey are red. If that makes sense. My plan B is my wig which I love...

Anyone having surgery in May
angelface811 replied to Cupcake's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My personal update: I had my bypass May 5th and I have been slowly healing. I was re-hospitalized because of severe impaction (not fun but I knew it may happen). My system is now working well but it took a while. My food is still between puréed and soft foods. Predominantly composed of one base protein shake a day, Greek yogurt, avocado, refried beans, cottage cheese, canned fruit, low fat shredded cheese, eggs and homemade peanut butter. Going to be trying some of my veggie and soy patties this week as my nutritionist said it was ok. I got my first set of lab results today. Everything looks great but oddly enough my B-12 is now high. I am beginning to lose a bit more hair. I am down 38 pounds and approaching one-derland. I am very happy with my weight loss. I got the ok to start weight training. I started at a size 18 bottom and 2X on top. I am now a loose 16 on bottom and an XL on top. I have given away 4 trash bags of clothes and fit into all but a few things I was to large for. My short term goals are to increase my food intake and variety-exercise-continue to work on swallowing all my pills. I would love to hear from you all and hear about your experiences. -
Wow!!!

I have to take 19 pills a day which includes my vitamins which are chewables. Eventually we should be able to swallow all of our pills. But before my surgery I showed all of my pills to my surgeon and he told me which ones I could attempt to swallow and which ones to crush. I have some awful ones to crush. Yuck! So far I like mixing them with strawberry watermelon sugar free drink mix from walmart. Sometimes key lime Greek yogurt. Sometimes I get full just taking my pills. Tried moving up to my "next size" pill and it just traveled right back up my esophagus. But 2 weeks later I can get it down. Just a bit at a time. Here is to being able to swallow all our pills and the laughing at the sour expressions we make.

CPAP Problems!
angelface811 replied to babybearsmum's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes...my pulmonologist sent me home with a cpap unit that automatically titrated to what was needed by my body. I think it was called an auto titration study. By that we had to adjust my setting from 10cm to 11.5 cm. -
Congrats to both of you ladies...moments of triumph...always love to here about those. I am only 6 weeks out from surgery and 32 pounds down but I decided to bring my summer bag of dresses out to see if any fit. Well the first one I grabbed was a "zippered" dress and I thought no way. To back track my weight really affects my face and for a while I didn't quite recognize myself. So to continue...I tried on the dress and had my son zip me up and made a bee-line for my room. I felt the tears start to pour down my face and I didn't want him to see. I put on my coordinating heels and looked in the mirror. And there I was...in disbelief I fit in the dress but even more important I finally began to recognize myself again. Yes!! Hope that makes sense..,

Anyone in the Riverside California area?
angelface811 replied to MFoster9812's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am also in San Bernardino County. I had the RNY May 5th. I am down 32 pounds. I will be seeing my surgeon next week for another follow up. I am attempting to get into soft foods from puréed but it's going slowly. I have definitely learned to give food items or in my case vitamins a second chance. I absolutely couldn't stand my bariatric advantage multivitamin after surgery so I took another one. I decided to give it another shot today and took it no problem. Yes!! That also happened with eggs. Great to meet you. -
How long till you had a BM post op?
angelface811 replied to Shiner86's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Took me 12 days...had to be placed on stronger stool softener, laxative and fiber. It is a bit scary but I would let your doc know so they can help things move along.
