My surgery was 1/14. I cannot eat more than 3-4 small bites of anything, then I have a very uncomfortable pressure feeling. Now I get nauseated when I eat anything. Protein shakes go right thru me. At this point I am just trying to keep fluids in me by sipping all day long. I feel like I am starving myself because I am getting no nutrition yet, I am not hungry. I find it hard to try to eat anything because I don't want the uncomfortable feeling or the nausea. I've tried calling the surgeons office but have received no response phone call yet.

Hopeful - yes I have followed the diet strictly. I have not had nausea the WHOLE time, but am now battling it every time I eat. I am only eating soft foods, but my stomach does not seem to like any of it. I actually stayed on the full liquids longer than the program because I felt as though I needed to. Eggs work, toast does not. Then eggs make me nauseated the next time. Now anytime I eat anything, I get very nauseated. I struggle every time.

I everyone. I'm re-reading through everything regarding post-surgery diet; I cannot seem to find an answer to how long you are on soft foods. I haven't yet made it to the soft food stage but it is next week. Can someone tell me how long you stay on soft foods and what happens after that? Also - I've heard some good ideas for 'soft foods' like eggs, toast, corned beef hash..... Can anyone give me more ideas? Thank you for your responses.

Nicgs, when can I eat that? When I go to soft foods??

Cooterbrown - thank you for your response. This made me feel better. God bless.

Just had my surgery on 1/14. I would love to talk with anyone who has been thru it and help answer some questions. For instance - this is day 11, why have I not list anything yet? I'm living off of Protein Water plus had the mandatory 2 week Protein shake diet prior to surgery. I still hurt, I'm hungry at night and I haven't lost anything. Sorry, I'm not known for my patience.

The journey for me has been ok, better now that I have more answers from this forum. Lol. I was scared because my belly is still so big, no loss that I know of but I haven't bought a scale yet. Turns out that swelling is very common for, sometimes, the first month. The pain has been bad, on and off. That part appears to be different for each individual. But I keep doing stuff (physically) that I shouldn't ( vacuuming, bending and lifting too much) so I believe my stubbornness is hurting me. I'm excited to see the first pounds come off, trying to be patient. I'm also trying to follow doctor instructions to a tee, but with the sipping, it is difficult to get all the protein in daily along with the ounces of fluid. I do better with the hydrating than I do with the protein because I feel full and don't want to push it. All in all, pretty good but I see no results yet but it's hard to remember that tomorrow will only be 14 days.

I agree, the 'not knowing' is the scariest. The support from this group has eased most of my concerns. My surgery was 1/14. What I did not know before that I do now is that the swelling sticks around for awhile. My stomach, inside and out, is still very swollen. Loading up on the fluids is a great piece of advice. The sip, sip, sipping helps a great deal with the pain as well as moving, walking to get all of the excess gas out from surgery. I agree with the importance of having the pain meds before surgery so they are available for you after release from the hospital. Sugar free Popsicles have become my best friend; taste good, feel good and help a lot with when you feel hungry. I thank God for this line of communication because the questions keep coming everyday, and they will for you too. These wonderful people have answered my questions and eased my concerns about a lot of things because they have been through it and are going through it. It's wonderful to be able to talk with others that are going thru the same thing. Good luck to you, you'll be in my prayers. Keep in touch, I would love to continue to have a buddy through this.

Had my surgery on 1/14. I look at myself and still see the same fat. I do realize it is early, but with the pre-surgery diet and nothing but protein powder in water, now no lump/no bump soup and water. I'm afraid to buy a scale because I believe it will show the same weight and this will depress me more. I started tracking calories on my fitness pal today though, again, it's all protein drinks thus far. I am so down, everything still looks the same. I'm just afraid to verify it.

Thank you for your replies. Scarlett, thank you for your post, it made me feel a little better. I'm just really struggling right now but have high hopes of everything getting better. Mentally and physically.

Thank you both so much for the replies. I will continue to sip, sip, sip to push the fluids. I've been reading through the posts. There is quite a lot of insight. Very nice for when I get to those stages as well.

Hi cheermomma - I'm new to this site, searching and reading. I'm replying to yours because it seems that I had my surgery around the same time as you. Mine was 1/14. I've also been feeling blue, I wonder why that is. I'm anxious about this whole process, haven't list anything and am still in pain. I suppose I still have a lot of swelling internally tho because it is very difficult at times to get much of my sips of liquid in. I wish you well and hope that we can find the help we need on this site.
