  1. And the reason I say that is it sounds like to me you are wanting to build up your muscles....and that you are already trim.
  2. You are gonna end up being an Insanity or p90x lover....since you are already fit, you don't necessarily have to start with p90x. That is gonna be your call. If you do insanity, I would make the next step definitely the Asylum....because you are going to be there cardio-wise and agility wise. If you stuck p90x in between those two, you wouldn't be helping yourself because p90x is so different with its approach. T25 and P90x3 were designed as a compact shorter program of x1 and x2...T25 is ShaunT's latest, which also gears towards the shorter workout, which actually on day 5 they recommend a double video that day. Insanity's month 2 like we said are hour workouts and p90x can be 90 mins a lot of days the entire time. I really think you should look into body beast by Beachbody.
  3. I gotcha Definitely some factors out there for ya. Glad you found something that works for you
  4. No problem. I hope you learn a lot from it. Just know that it is very hard to read in parts. A lot of science
  5. Nutrition has always peaked my interest, I just never had self control to do what is right and over-ate all the time, this my reason for lapband. Hopefully this will be the tool to my personal success.
  6. I copied this from a reviewer of the book because it's easier for me to copy and paste than to type it in my own words. The book's "bombshell" contention is that timed carbohydrate intake is more important than Protein when it comes to building muscle. Nutrient Timing takes direct aim at what the authors call the "bulk nutrition" mentality: if protein is good, then more protein must be better. "Unfortunately," they say, "you can consume the protein of an entire cow, but if your muscles are not receptive at that particular time, the protein will be wasted." Ivy and Portman cite two conditions that make the muscles receptive to protein. The first is training. By disrupting muscle tissue, high-intensity lifting creates a short-term demand for protein in the muscles. The second key is insulin. Studies show that insulin increases net protein balance in three ways: 1) it increases amino acid transport into the muscle, 2) it stimulates the enzymes that make protein from amino acids, and 3) it reduces the breakdown of protein. To get the full anabolic benefits of insulin requires that you maximize its release after your workouts. Protein is a weak stimulator of insulin. Carbohydrate is a much stronger stimulator of insulin. When carbohydrate and protein are taken together after a workout, insulin release is much greater than when protein is taken alone and it acts as a kind of fuel injector that drives protein synthesis. According to Ivy and Portman, the ideal post-workout supplement will have three to four times as much carbohydrate as protein, and they've got the science to prove it. For example, in one study they cite, a carbohydrate-protein supplement taken after a workout resulted in 38% more protein synthesis than a regular Protein shake of the kind that most gym rats use. Nutrient Timing slays many sacred cows of muscle-building nutrition, but in the end it is thoroughly convincing. It is also very practical, explaining exactly what to take and when. The only thing left for you to do is work out!
  7. I don't know it by heart, but if you read this book, it will back up what I said, only in a much more detailed and longer format. Nutrient Timing: The Future of Sports Nutrition by John Ivy et al. http://www.amazon.com/dp/1591201411/ref=cm_sw_r_udp_awd_XPvdtb1BGDKAW I have not found a much better 'complete' recovery drink than the R&R that has both the excellent carb/protein ratio and that still tastes good and has what you actually 'need' in it.
  8. My family LOVES R&R by Beachbody. In fact, when we are near the bottom there are fights to get the last serving. With any recovery drink, you need to look at the Carb to Protein ratio. R&R is 4 to 1 (carbs to protein) with a large amount of simple sugar. 4 or 3 to 1 ratio is recommended for a recovery drink. So R&R is on the top side of that equation. And that equation came from a very reputable book about the science behind building muscle.

    February 2014 bandsters?

Exciting!!!! You can do it. It's just a few days.
  10. Good luck!!! Keep us posted.
  11. That is what I am talking about. They have already figured out a schedule that incorporates both programs into a hybrid program. You have to own each complete program first.

Wow! I am excited for you. I have been eating soups like tomato, thinned down cream of chicken....even broccoli-cheese soup....I don't eat the chunks. I made jello and it was crazy how little I could eat. I can do about a cup or just under of soup, but could only get 3 spoons of jello down.
  13. A person who is building muscle will have a different diet plan than one that is wanting to 'cut' and show ripped muscles. Body beast by Beachbody is a program that is strictly designed for weight gains. The food program bulks you up then at end of program you go on a 'cut' diet plan to define the muscles you have been building up. It's a science.
  14. There is actually a calendar that Beachbody has created that mixes up the discs on different days in a specific pattern for you to get the most gain from them. It's not double a day.

    shakeology? Anyone tried it?

Lol there is no sugar in shakeology. Just stevia. And if you are talking dr oz??? I laugh because there is that much lead in a ton of things people eat. I personally think he is just miffed he can't get a piece of the profits of shakeology.

I cannot wait for mushy food. Friday.....come on Friday!!!!
  17. I don't know how you gained on insanity either, unless your eating was not properly done. I was 220ish when I started and I had to consume about 3200 GOOD calories a day when doing insanity. Plus it's a 6 day a week program, not 5....not sure why you did only 5. I dropped 35lbs with the program and like over 40 inches overall. Not saying it isn't possible, just crazy that it happened.

    How much protein?

I am not getting my protein in on this liquid phase....come on Friday. I am sick of protein shakes. Lol. I am boycotting some.
  19. I bought T25 and did day 1 only (cause I was in 10 day pre-op diet and it drained me) I am gonna give t-25 a run for its money once I am released (feb 14th was my surgery) The thing I asked my experienced Beachbody friends (Facebook group) was 'please tell me there are push-ups in T25'....and the response was yes, there is, just wait. Day 1 didn't have them. I feel like push-ups really built my strength up in so many ways....if I end up disliking t-25 after a month, I will go back to Insanity for sure. Like the other poster said, a hybrid between the 2 programs is great, but that would be kind of expensive to do at once, at least at first. P90x3 does have the shorter workouts.
  20. My family of 4 did insanity together. We have a love/hate relationship with it. LOVED the results, LOVED the challenge it gave us every single day. Will the day 1 fitness test make you puke? More than likely....unless you are super hydrated and are prepared to get your butt kicked. I wasn't hydrated. I puked. Hubby needs to lose no weight, ended up toned and even more fit. I lost about 35lbs and tons of inches and was running 3 miles in 27mins at the end of the program. I couldn't jog 30 secs at day 1. Teen daughter 1---cheerleader--lost her love handle she is blessed with and got super fit and strong Pre-teen daughter2---on the heavier side, lost weight and a ton of inches and got a lot more agile and quick. After trying other Beachbody programs, I end up quitting early into them because they just did not deliver the same intensity and fun as Insanity did. Insanity uses your own body weight. Your ankles will not like you for about 10-14 days. Month 1 all vids are about 30ish mins. Month 2 they are all about 60ish mins. By the end of month 1, you are completing the drills at a comfortable speed, day 1 of month 2, you are dying like day 1 of month 1. It's crazy. P90X has longer workouts. I hear the ab workout is better with it than insanity. Idk, push-ups are a great ab workout, which are flooded in insanity in a million different ways. Also p90x requires equipment here and there. Insanity was designed as the graduate program to p90X....but I don't like the guy on p90x much, I am a Shaun T fan through and through. He is VERY motivating. Oh and adding that Insanity is like 63 days, not 60 like the commercial says.
  21. Yesterday (Day 1-surgery Day) I was banded at 9am, left hospital at 1pm. I was groggy/sleepy with Anesthesia prob until about 6pm. When my eyes were closed, I could still hear what was going on around me. I stayed fully awake from 6-10pm. Sipped Water here and there all day. Maybe 10 oz total? Throat was dry from tube in surgery I suppose. Took pain meds at exactly 4 hrs all day. Also took phenergan for nausea every 6 hrs (just to make sure I didn't get nausea, haven't felt it since recovery room). I have consumed the gas-x strips a lot...those are awesome in aiding the gas pain. I did wake up at exactly 4 hrs all night with discomfort....took my pain pill and had a gas-X strip at the same time, fell back asleep. I did sleep in my bed all night, but the 4 hr pain was like clockwork. Haha. So odd. Up this morning (day 2) and I get to take a shower today. They used the glue for my incisions. The largest incision is above my belly button, assuming that is where the port is. Husband is the best ever...He has laundry going, lunch for him and our girls cooking...and picking up around the house while I sit here on the couch. Couldn't be more blessed. Stay tuned and I will add my activities for awhile (until I go back to work in about 10 days) on this thread if anyone wants to follow.

    Shakeology?

I like shakeology....I feel like the all natural ingredients far outweigh the cost. Each coach will get basically $20ish on every person that buys a bag under them. I use to be a coach....but I stopped over a year ago and I still drink the shakeology at full price.

I got on the wii fit today to weigh. I have lost 6lbs since surgery day (1 week plus 1day ago). If you add in the 10 day pre-op diet weight, that puts me at 24.9lbs loss total. Still on liquids until next Friday, then I can have purée foods. Can't wait for that.
