  1. My surgeon asks that you not consume alcohol for the first year. I think some of it is that it is high in calories/sugar, and metabolizes differently with a smaller stomach. Also, there is research that is showing an increase in alcohol dependence after gastric surgery (cross addiction and liquids go through really easy :-). Not to say this would happen to you but something to certainly be aware of. I am actually an alcohol and drug counselor and have seen a number of clients recently who never had a problem with alcohol pre- surgery and now find themselves having problems. I know for me, genetics and now sleeved I'm not sure I want to take the chance anymore. So if you decide to have a glass....have one for me :-)
  2. Time to get back on a strict track to get the rest of this weight off! I have 15 pounds until my first goal which is 5 under my doctors goal. I CAN DO THIS!

  3. 6 month checkup coming up. Wondering where vitamin levels are at. I've been so lethargic and somewhat depressed. Wondering if it's vitamin deficiency. Hope to get some answers.

    5 mo out: extreme fatigue

I'm having the same problem! Go in for 6 month check next week to have Vitamin levels etc. checked. Love the weight loss but the "tired all the time" thing is getting old! Depression feels like it's settling in :-(
  5. I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing this. I get hungry but NOTHING sounds good or tastes good. As a result I find myself not eating and yet still not dropping any weight really. Trying to just force myself back into the 3 meals (regardless of how much) and eating Protein first. Any suggestions other than "Just do it!" LOL
  6. That's exactly me right now! Glad to know it's not just me! I have my six month coming up. Just want to see where my Vitamin levels are at along with cholesterol/other. hair loss seems to have slowed down a bit.
  7. I made it to Onederland!!!! I haven't been here in over 10 years! Feeling great about it and sooooo glad I didn't let my fear of the surgery and change deter me from getting the sleeve! Best of luck to all on this journey :-)

The fair is all about the food, entertainment, animals and FOOD! I can't go this year. Good luck and let us know what you did to make it through.

  13. I think as mothers we have a tendency to put their needs above our own and think of their future first. I raised my daughter, put her through college with little to no debt, helped with a wedding and then.....empty nest hit. Yikes! So......I decided to go back to school and get my Masters degree. Something I had wanted to do for the past 25 years but always found a way to put it off. Well....I just finished my coursework (took 2 years) and will be starting my internship on Monday. A totally new career at age 52 :-) But it's what I have always wanted to do and finally just did it! My fears were much like yours, especially the technology part and being so much older than my classmates. I am sooooo glad I took the chance on myself knowing that I will be a better mom and grandma but more importantly able to care for myself financially in the future because I have done this. My advice.....keep going! You will be better for it and will secure a future for yourself!
  14. You started out at a lower weight as well. :-) I think you're doing great!
  15. Had my 3 month check up today. Down 46 pounds with 10 inches off my waist and 5 inches off my hips (those are the only measurements they took before surgery) Feels great! I know it will only get better if I trust the process and start exercising like I mean it!! lol

  17. As the time gets closer the "what if's" really kick in. The fear of failure, complications etc. but it's normal! Anything that we aren't 100 percent sure about brings in doubts. I know for myself I was like a rollercoaster; reading too much information on too many sites. The bottom line is, can you afford NOT to do the surgery. FOr me that answer was NO. I wasn't going to lose this weight on another diet and I wanted to be healthy. The complications from high cholesterol, diabetes, blood pressure etc. should scare you as much as the surgery because the reality is those things can kill you. So......search your heart, talk with YOUR surgeon, and make your decision based on all of the statistics and outcomes. I know for me I am SOOO glad that I made the decision to get the surgery! Good luck!
  18. I HAVE to start moving this body! I know it will make a difference. Must. Find. The. Time. And. Motivation. Ugh!

    8 weeks and 40 pounds

Nolagirl: I'm with you! Protein, under....water, under but getting better....and Multivitamin....what Vitamin? Makes me vomit everytime! Even the chewables :-( I'm down 42 pounds and feeling much better! Need to get more regular with exercise as well. The way I figure it....any weight loss is weight loss! I have finally decided that I am not going to worry about it too much! Eat what I can, drink what I can and just do the best that I can overall! This isn't going to be a diet for me! Too many of those in the past! I'm learning that it isn't always about perfection but just being "good enough". It's gonna come off one way or another! Hang in there and just do the best you can!

I have acid reflux....never had this cough with it. In fact my reflux has worsened and I'm popping antacid pills like candy :-( Hoping to get some relief soon!
  25. Jennifer: I basically started where you are and am basically where you are now. Great to see before and after pictures!! You look at yourself everyday and wonder if you really are LOOKING thinner, not just feeling it in your clothes/other. Guess I'm gonna get my camera out so I can see my progress :-) Looking good!!!!
