Anyone having surgery in May
rome replied to Cupcake's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No exact date as of yet but looking like it will be sometime mid-May. Let's get this show on the road! Nervous, excited, scared but ready. I have ALOT of living yet to do :-) -
I too was found to have sleep apnea. My surgeon and insurance (Healthpartners) requires at least 2 weeks on the CPAP machine with an average of 4 hours per night. There is a card in the back of the machine that is read to see if you are in compliance and how the machine is helping the apnea or not. I was just signed off on that part. It was just a little time added on. Shouldn't hold your process up too much.

I'm right there with you.....off to insurance today! Here's hoping we both have quick turn arounds with no problems. Time to get on with this! :-)

Found out at my sleep study appointment that I have to have 2 weeks of 4 or more hours a night. I was only at 8 days so have to go back next Wednesday. By then I will have the right amount of days. I DISLIKE this mask BUT....I will wear it four hours even if I have to stay awake to do it ha! I'll look in the binder again about the pre op diet. Last Healthpartners call tomorrow and Psych appt. on Friday and I'm finished! Then off to insurance I go. Getting excited! I can see my new life right around the corner!

Informing my family and friends
rome replied to JulieA's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am saying that I am on a doctor supervised diet low in carbs......that is the truth :-) Much like an Atkins diet for those on the outside -
I am wondering if any of you drink the Powerade Zero drink. I really like it however, it seems like there is alot of sodium in it so am wondering if that could hamper weight loss. Thoughts?

Informing my family and friends

Julie: I have gone back and forth about telling family for many of the same reasons. I got some good advice.....tell who you want as close to the surgery as possible. Let them know that it is out of courtesy that you're telling them. That while they may have their thoughts and concerns they are not up for discussion. You have made this decision for yourself and hope they can support you. You don't have to explain or defend your decision. Seems a little hard line but I think it shows your confidence in doing this and doesn't put you in a place to doubt and second guess yourself because of someone else's opinion. As a mom myself, it's time to take care of ourselves for a change :-) Good luck! -
3 month anniversary 47 lbs gone forever
rome replied to cbwalker79's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Way to go! Looking great!! So motivational to see what could be me in 3 months after being sleeved! Hoping to start my journey mid-May. Last appt. before file goes to insurance is April 4th..... -
How exciting for both of you! Just keep trusting the process....it's got you this far and will continue to see you through the finish line (if there is such a thing as finishing :-)

I see that a few of you went to Meadowbrook Park Nicollet Methodist and had Dr. Jones for a surgeon. A couple of questions: I am wondering about the sleep study. I did it and was found to have sleep apnea. I've been trying to adjust to the mask and have been having trouble using it nighly. If any of you were diagnosed with this how many hours or days did you have to show use of the machine in order to be cleared for surgery? I have an appointment on March 31st and then last appt. with Healthpartners APril 4th.....getting close! Dr. Jones....what does he require for a pre-op diet if anything? Thanks!

Power aid and the Vitamin waters I am talking about do not have carbonation. I am hoping to get sleeved mid May. :-)
-
Great idea! Thanks!
-
I like the Sobe and Vitamin Water as well :-) Thanks for the imput!
-
I'm not sleeved however, I know with any attempts at weight loss my scale was not my friend as I get on it WAY too many times a day! You fluctuate from morning, noon to night. Just a thought but maybe put the scale away for the wekk (I put mine in my trunk once ha!). That way you can continue down the path you know is correct and the next time you step on that scale you may be pleasantly surprised. I know seeing my weight fluctuate zapped my motivation and confidence. Good luck!

A little more than 24 hours...
rome replied to Kelsmurf's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Prayers for the peace that surpasses all understanding to be with you :-) -
Praying for peace and comfort :-)
-
Good to know! I'm ready and waiting!
-
Lori: I am also going to PN Methodist Meadowbrooke and live in Burnsville :-) I have healthpartners/park nicollet insurance. I have had all of my testing done and am now just waiting for my last 2 phone consultations with Healthpartners (they require 5 phone calls 2 weeks apart) This is what has been holding up submission to insurance for approval. If all goes well I will have that completed by first week in April. I haven't met with surgeon yet....I think that's the last step before paperwork goes in for approval. Hoping that will come soon after. If all goes well I am looking or should I say hoping that I can get a mid May surgery date.

Sometimes friendships are for a season in our life. My thought is that when those "friendships" find themselves at a point where only one person seems to be breathing life into the other or your feelings are no longer being validated that the "season" may be coming to an end. Tell her exactly how you feel when she talks to you the way she does and then tell her what you need from her. If she makes the decision (and that's what it will be...HER decision) to continue on with her behaviour at your expense then you will know the friendship has run it's course. Friendship is a two way street and to me the actions and words we speak should encourage and support and the criticisms we receive are done out of a heart of concern, love and only wanting the best for our friend. Good luck!
-
Thanks again for all the support! I am grabbing on to "The decision is mine and I have to own it". I own it and I will share it with them shortly before surgery date, which by the way I am waiting with great anticipation for!

At the sleep study center all hooked up and feeling like an alien! Lol Here's hoping I don't have sleep apnea!

To tell or not to tell mom and dad....that is the question
rome posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Any others out there reluctant to tell their parents that you are having this procedure done? I know they will not be happy only because of the fear of the unknown and yet I can't see myself keeping it from them and just having the surgery. I think that would really upset them. Any suggestions?
