  1. Ow long post op was it until you could comfortably sleep on your side or stomach. I've never been a back sleeper, and I know this is part of why I'm not sleeping as well. Thanks!

    Day 2 post op

I'm starting to do a little better! Been focusing on drinking today. I even got in some unjury chicken soup and some strained cream of mushroom soup with unflavored protein powder. I'm definitely not hungry, but I know my body needs the protein to heal! It's been raining here in Denver, so I've been walking laps around the house. I'm hoping the weather is nicer tomorrow so I can get out and walk more. I took a shower today, which definitely helped me feel more human!! Thanks for all the support and encouragement!! I know this will all get better!!!!
  4. I was sleeved yesterday . Yesterday was rough between coming out of anesthesia, nausea and pain. I'm doing much better today! Been up walking and finally keeping fluids down! Even tiny sips are tough, but I'm just taking it really slow to make sure they stay down and I get hydrated! It feels so good to get up and walk. The first time out of bed was tough, but after that it gets way easier!! My surgeon stopped by this morning and said I may be able to go home this afternoon. He and the nurses say I'm doing really well . Well, I'm so happy to have this done and be on the road to recovery!!! I hope you're all doing well!! I'll update again later!
  5. Can't believe 24 hours from now I'll be checking in at admissions!!! I'm excited and nervous!! The anticipation is the worst, lol! I'm just ready to get this over with and get back home to start my recovery! I started packing my hospital bag last night and reality seriously set in! This is really happening! I've only had surgery once, and I remember being incredibly nervous. I think I'll do better this time, but I have apologized to my husband in advance for being a nut tomorrow morning!! The plan is to drop my daughter off at school (which I pre warned my husband I will cry) then head to the hospital. Check in is 8am and surgery is scheduled for 10. I'm hoping if all goes well, I'll be out of the pacu and in a room by 2pm. My husband plans to be there the whole time, then pick my daughter up after school and bring her to visit. She's only 4, and knows only a little about what's going on. She knows mommy is having surgery and will stay the night at the hospital. Luckily, I worked nights as a nurse for a long time, so hopefully mommy staying the night in the hospital won't be to weird for her! Anyway, the plan is to stay busy today, and try to sleep tonight! I'm sure sleep won't come easily, lol! I'll try to post again tomorrow with an update. My surgery is at Parker Adventist Hospital in Parker, Colorado. It's a beautiful hospital, and all rooms are private, which I love!!!!!! Wish me luck!

    Surgery TOMORROW!

Kate, that's awesome! Dr long is amazing!! Good luck on Tuesday! Maybe we'll see each other on the post op floor
  7. I'm on day 6 of 7 for my pre-op diet. It hasn't been easy...but as this is more restrictive than the post-op diet, I know if I can stick to this, I'll be fine after surgery . I've got my mind set on my goal, and I've stuck to the pre-op diet 100%!! I went to the movies with my daughter today and didn't sneak even one kernel of popcorn! I usually have four protein drinks per day, alternating sweet shakes with the unjury chicken soup. I also treat myself to a sugar free jello and sugar free Popsicle in the evening. It's tough, but, it's been better than I thought it would be. Drinking lots of water, decaf tea, and chewing sugar free gum have helped me a lot!. I just keep reminding myself that this part is temporary, and all a part of my new life! I've lost 10.2 lbs on the pre-op so far and that has really helped motivate me to keep strong! My surgery is less than 48 hours away, and I can't wait!!'

    Pre-op appointment, done!

I met with the surgeon foe my first consult on January 8th. Insurance required six months of classes. My last class was June 20, and I got my surgery date that day. Insurance approval took about a week (I have united healthcare). Pre admission testing July 14, pre op appt July 21, and surgery is in three days
  9. Today is my last day at work until after surgery. My sleeve is on Monday morning I am so excited. I've made it to day 5 of my preop diet, and have not cheated even once. I'm already down 10 lbs!! I am so excited to finally be having my surgery, and am so looking forward to my new life!! I work as a nurse in an OB/gyn office, and will be out for four weeks, returning on August 25th. I really hope recovery goes well, and I'll get to enjoy some of this time off like vacation, lol!

    Pre-po diet started today!

Today is day three of the pre op diet! It's not easy, but I've stuck to it 100%! Only 5 more days until surgery!!!
  11. Surgery is one week away, so today starts my pre-op diet. So far so good, but I can see this is going to be a challenge! I had a chocolate shake for breakfast, and now I'm enjoying the Unjury chicken soup for lunch. I bought about 10 packs of gum, mints, and my big water bottle to keep me satisfied in between. I think the hardest part so far is the portion size. Even having six months to prepare, looking at an 8 oz cup of protein chicken broth is a little shocking, lol! Eyes on the prize! I'm sure this week will fly by, and surgery will be here before I know it!

    Pre-op appointment, done!

It's so exciting!! I had my pre-op yesterday too! My surgery is next Monday, the 28th! I'm on day two of my preop diet, and while it isn't exactly easy, I know it's all for the better, and in a few weeks I'll be eating "solid" food again . Good luck to you!!!!!

    Pre-po diet started today!

So far so good! I had my pre-op appointment today and it went well! My surgeon is awesome, and I know I'm in good hands. I'm having my fourth shake today and can have one more tonight before bed. I went and got some decaf herbal tea to sip too. I know this will all be worth it, and this is a very short part of my journey. That is keeping me motivated to stay on track!
  14. Congratulations!! That's amazing!
  15. So my stomach has never really liked vitamins. I've finally found a multivitamin that doesn't make me sick, but I'm trying to find a calcium supplement for after surgery. I bought the Opurity calcium citrate chewable, which you're supposed to take four of a day, and after trying only ONE last night, I was throwing up an hour later. Today I bought the Citrical chewable and the Viactive chews to see if either of those sit better with me. I'm scared that they'll all make me sick, and then I don't know what to do. I suppose if I try a few more with the same result I'll have to talk to my surgeon and see what he thinks. Any suggestions??!! I definitely DO NOT want to be throwing up post op, especially because of a vitamin!

    STRICTLY VENTING

Sorry you're going brought all that!! I do think you should go to your OB/Gyn since you have so many conditions being treated by them. They can attest to your gynecological health and write a letter stating that many could improve after surgery!! Good luck!

    STRICTLY VENTING

I work in an OB/Gyn letter and most docs wont write you a letter unless your weight is affecting your treatment with them (e.g. PCOS, infertility, hormone imbalance...). If you've been seeing them for any length of time they can provide a history of high BMI. I would go with a PCP first since they'll hold a little more weight when it comes to bariatric surgery. As far as tour PCP not knowing how to write a letter of medical necessity...WWWHHHAAATTT! It's a basic form letter! In our office, we nurses write the letter and the docs just sign it, lol! I hope you get something soon and can get approved!!!
  18. Anyone else being sleeved on July 28th?? I got my approval this week, and I'm so excited!! Nervous, but excited!
  19. Hi all! I'm just curious what is on everyone's "to get" list for surgery. I've started making a list so I'll have everything I need post-op, both in the hospital and at home. Tomorrow is three weeks until surgery! Please feel free to share. What your getting and bringing...I'm looking for other ideas to make sure I'm covered!! For the hospital: Comfortable clothes A book iPad/iPhone and chargers Headphones Notebook/journal My pillow At home: Measuring cups and spoons Mesh strainer Protein powder Ff milk sugar free Jello Cream Soups Mio Water favors Protein Drink shaker unjury unflavored Protein Powder Unjury chicken Soup Apple sauce Sugar free/fat free pudding

    APPROVED!

I was approved by insurance for my sleeve . I'm scheduled for surgery on July 28...just over 3 weeks away. I'll admit that I'm a bit nervous. Mostly, I'm nervous about surgery. As a nurse, I've had the opportunity to circulate many surgeries, but going to sleep freaks me out. I know all will be well, and I'm totally looking forward to my new life! The past six months have flown by, and I can't believe my surgery is so close!
  21. I finished my last class on Friday, and I now have a tentative surgery date of July 28!! Only 5 weeks away. The past 6 months have flown by, and I can't believe I finally have my date! We're just waiting on approval from insurance now, but that's in Gods hands, and being as though I met their requirements, I'm not too worried. The reality of it all is really sinking in, but I am so ready and excited to start this next chapter of my life!!!

    Got a surgery date!

when did you submit to insurance? I know they say it could take up to 4 weeks, but I'm hoping I'm one of the lucky ones that gets a response faster. Just for peace of mind.
  23. Hey there . I'm 5'5" and 258. I'm scheduled for surgery on July 28th! So excited and can't believe it's finally here!!! I'm 35, a mom, wife and OB nurse. I've struggled with my weight my entire life. I can't wait to see what the future holds after surgery.

    Any july surgery dates?

Just got my surgery date...July 28! So excited!
  25. I'm so excited!! I've completed 5 of my 6 required classes. My final class will be June 20th, then I can submit to insurance. I was so proud of myself this month. I've been really good about making all of my own meals, packing a lunch for work, eating smaller portions, and eating all of my meals over the course of 20 minutes ( I literally set the timer on my phone!), and it paid off in an 11 lb. loss since my last class! Hard to believe I could be having surgery in two months! When I started this process in January, six months seemed so long, but time has flown by.
