    Massachusetts Bandsters Chat

Hi Janet: Sorry to hear your fills are so uncomfortable. Mine are such a piece of cake. We have the same size band and now I'm at 1.5. I got up to 1.5 before and had an issue and had to have .5 taken out. Hopefully I can keep it at 1.5 this time. I have support group next Tuesday. The Doctor told me if I need more to come early and he can give me more fill before support group meeting. It is tough when you don't have restriction. I am not changing my ticker, but my doctor told me I gained 3 pounds. I could have fallen on the floor I was so shocked! My scale at home doesn't show a gain, but I did get a new scale for Xmas, so maybe it's a scale issue. Because they have such difficulty giving you a fill can they try it under fluoroscopy? Maybe it would be easier. You might want to post your fills issue on the fills section because others can probably give you advice on this. Hope you have restriction and can stay at this level for a while. Take care. Sue

    Help. HEADACHE

The adult-strength liquid tylenol tastes awful too. You might want to get some though because you might not have to take as much when you do have to swallow it. Good luck! Sue
  5. Hi Candi: I opted for the biotch thing instead of depression. I got especially biotchy if somebody was eating alot of things that I couldn't have. I think it takes some getting used to not turning to food for comfort. Best wishes for your success. Sue

Share ideas, What did you eat today ?

Luvinke: Try having a half of an apple with your oatmeal. Might just be enough to hold you over. Is it possible that too much time is passing between your meals? I find I have a problem if I have to go more than 4 hours between meals. Sue
  7. Hi: Just remember, you're lowering your risk with each bite you don't take! Best wishes. Sue

Candi: I don't know what to say about the lactose intollerance. Haven't been there. Have you tried pureeing cream of broccoli Soup made with the soy milk? How about cream of wheat or oatmeal made with the soy milk? Hope things improve quickly for you. Sue

    What's on your Playlist?

Juli: Great idea. Here's what's on my favorites that I walk to every day... Say it Right - Nelly Furtado Back at your door - Maroon 5 I will remember you - Sarah McLachlan Hot in Herre - Nelly Sweet Home Alabama - Lynyrd Skynyrd Free Bird - Lynyrd Skynyrd Lights - Journey Cowboy Take me Away - Dixie Chicks Landslide - Dixie Chicks Wide Open Spaces - Dixie Chicks I know you Won't - Carrie Underwood Foreplay/Long Time - Boston Fallin' - Alicia Keyes No One - Alicia Keyes New York Minute - Eagles Quite an odd collection. Some of them are quicker than others, but they keep me going. Sue
  11. Catie: I've been doing well with my loss so I figure I am qualified to give you advice. The things that I do are: coffee w/ff flavored cream from 7 to 9:30 walk 1 mile around 9:30 am oatmeal or cream of wheat for Breakfast around 10:30 to 11:00 a.m. Noon - walk 2 miles after I walk I eat one of the following for lunch: Protein bar and half an apple or pear cup of cheerio's or other non-sugary Cereal walk 1 mile around 3 o'clock sometimes I need a snack in the afternoon because I feel hungry at around 4 o'clock and if I wait too long to eat I get awful burps and gas. I have one of those one hundred calorie Snacks or some fruit supper - i eat alot of Weight Watcher smart one's, or a pork chop, or Soup with a few crackers. at night i eat alot of sugar free popsicles i drink flavored sf Water or snapple throughout the day when I can fit it in. I get on my eliptical for about 15 minutes some nights. I do some stretches on my ab lounger too. I probably don't get enough protein, but I'm not going bald or having any other apparent medical issues, so I'm sticking with this for now because it's working for me. I do take a Multivitamin every day. I take two tums for Calcium every day too. I usually eat two prunes to make me less constipated. Good luck. Sue

    Newby here lots of questions

Heidi: I'm 48 too. I am 5'7" and was 324 pounds nine months ago. This morning I weighed 226.6, yeah down 97 pounds! I have alot more energy now than I did when I was heavier, though I didn't get it back until about 3 months after surgery. My feet used to hurt all the time from carrying around this weight. I walk 4 to 5 miles 6 days per week, and my feet hardly ever hurt anymore. I highly recommend the band based on my experience. However, I cannot tell you about long-term results yet. I do attend support group and there are a couple of people there that have had their weight off more than a year, but my surgeon's only been doing the surgery for 2+ years. I hope things go well for you. Sue

I am still a little in shock

Gingerbug: Congratulations. It is amazing, isn't it! It gets harder later on, slows down a bit, but it's still awesome. Sue
  16. Sci Gal: I'm almost 6 months post banding. I don't even notice my port anymore. It's flat, and so is my stomach (at the top only). Give it time, you'll get used to it too. Sue

Excercise?... you want me to do what?

Ang: I love walking. Get an mp3 player and load it up with your favorites and get moving. I walk 4 to 5 miles per day. I do 2 to 3 individual miles, plus a two-mile walk at lunch time. It definitely gets easier as the weight comes off. Enjoy! Sue

    OK who is exercising today?

Paulax: I have already done 3 miles so far today. Have a great time at the gym! Sue

    Questions for the doc?

Hi: I suggest that you read alot here on this website and make a list of questions that you may have. Did you go to an informational seminar? If not, I recommend that you go so that you'll be informed. Good luck. Sue

    Just wondering?

I have a soda about once a week or so. I usually add a ton of ice and stir it with a spoon to get some of the gas out. I don't like it as much as I used to. I got hooked on snapple peach iced tea - yummmmmmmmm! Try it, you may like it if you like sweet drinks. Sue
  23. Liny1074: We're bandmates. I got my band 7/26/07 too. I agree that exercising helps so much. I walk 4 to 5 miles per day 6 days per week. I give myself one day off, or only do one or two miles on that 7th day. I have a great mp3 player and I really enjoy the walking now. I know that in the next few months I've got to start to do some strength training too. Not looking forward to going to a gym, but don't have room for equipment at home. What kind of working out do you do? Sue
  24. Jeremy: Please stick with it. You won't regret it. I had a huge amount of weight to lose, and I'm already more than halfway there and it's only been six months since banding. I dieted for three months before banding because I just couldn't stand the pounds anymore and also because I didn't want to be turned down because my bmi was too high. The pre-surgery diet seems like starvation, but it's meant to give you a big jump start to decrease the size of your liver which makes your surgery safer. I think that the pre-surgery limitations are the hardest part of being banded. It's the only time that I've been really hungry. The rest of the time I've gotten hungry a few times, but it's more like my brain is hungry, not my belly. I believe that Lapband is the safest choice in today's world. I'm thinking that over the next 20 years the scientists and doctors are going to develop the magic solution to obesity. Lapband is the only reversible solution at the current time, so do what is best for now that leaves options open for the future. You're a young person that may see many changes over your lifetime. Please keep the future options open by not making drastic changes to your body now - lapband is minimal and reversible. I hope that the rest of this goes smoothly and easier for you. I recall trying to do lots of things that didn't involve food while I was on the pre-op liquid diet. For me, that meant alot of showers, swimming, and walking. I got bitchy about it, but it's a short-term issue. Take care and best wishes. Sue
  25. Millie: When mine comes it's at the front of my left shoulder running up my neck. It hardly ever happens anymore for me, thank goodness. If I eat too fast, or a bite or two too many it can occur. Sue
