starting BMI over 50? come on in!

Phyl: Thank you. You have made alot of progress and you'll be there before you know it! I never joined the Lucky #7's because I didn't know anything about LBT until a few weeks after I was banded. I have enjoyed reading yours and your friends threads over the past two years though. I still read it often. It is so nice that you've found some friends that it seems will be lifelong friends for all of you. Good luck with your knee surgery. I love my band and my new flat tummy! Sue
  3. Emilie: Try looking at the website makemeheal.com They probably have some pictures before & after a panniculectomy. I saw some pictures somewhere for that, but I cannot remember where. I wasn't happy with what I saw for me. However, you may be happy with it. You may even try googling panniculectomy images. Best wishes to you. I love my band and my new flat tummy! Sue

    I wanna flat tummy

Hi Laura: I hope your first day back to work went well. Did you get any compliments on your new flat tummy? Rest up - going to be a tiring week for you. Take care. Sue
  5. Hi: My doctor told me that a panniculectomy only takes care of from the belly button down. So, if you have any excess skin above the belly button it wouldn't be taken care of. In addition, when they do the full tummy tuck they tighten the abdominal muscles back tight like they should be. If you have a panniculectomy there is no muscle tightening - only cutting and stitching. To me it seemed like way too much pain and recuperation time to not get it done all the way. Best wishes to you with your future plastic surgery. I love my band and my new flat tummy! Sue

starting BMI over 50? come on in!

I've been where you are. My BMI was just over 50 when I started two years ago. The thing that kept me on track before the surgery was knowing that by having only liquids I would be safer during surgery. I hope that this helps! My only regret about being banded is that I didn't do it alot sooner! I love my band and my new flat tummy! Sue
  7. Hi: My surgeon showed me some of her other patient's before & afters and she told me that I could expect results just as good as theirs. She was spot on. I love my new flat tummy. Best wishes to you. Sue

    How many

Pickles: Getting a lapband is a lifetime committment to yourself, your band, and your doctor. You may have to switch doctors at some point, but it really is so important to see a doctor that you feel comfortable with. If your surgeon is arrogant now I cannot imagine how he'll be in the future with you. My doctor was just as pleasant and supportive with me every time I went in, even the couple of times that I had gained a few pounds along the way. I know that my doctor wants his patients to succeed because he genuinely likes people and wants them to loose their weight because in most cases they'll be happier people. Do you really want to go and visit an arrogant doctor every time you have to go to him? Best wishes to you and your band. Sue

    How many

Pickles: If he was vague I would run to find a new surgeon. You don't want someone that you'll have to trust his expertise and visit with many times during the first year to be vague with you. Good luck. Sue

    CombiTuck?

Hi: I just googled combituck and looked at the pictures and read about the procedure. Looks like it does a good job on the lower half of the abdomen, but nothing for the top half of the abdomen. I'm guessing that they don't tighten the abdominal muscles from the top down, like they do with a traditional tummy tuck. Hard to believe that someone can return to work in only a week with that big of a cut, but that's what they advertise. I'll keep an eye on this thread to see if you get a response from anyone. You may want to check out makemeheal.com too to see if anyone there had this procedure. Sue
  12. Glad to hear things went well. Let me know if you have any questions. I'll be glad to try to help out. Now's a time for healing and resting and walking for you. Take care.

    Post op introduction

Ronni: You are starting bandster hell. The time after banding, but before restriction. It's hard to think about having had the surgery and still hungry! Remember, this is the most important time to follow the doctors orders because you want your band area to heal well and for your band to be in the best shape for future weight loss success. Welcome aboard and keep lots of those sugar free popsicles on hand. I bought an ice crusher too so that I could eat something sugar free with a spoon and get a crunch. I crush the ice and then put some crystal light on it for flavor. Yummy! Best wishes to you for your band success. I love my band and my new flat tummy! Sue
  15. Hi Nancyjean:

I'm thinking of you today. You're probably in pre-op now. I hope all goes well for you. Drop me a line when you feel up to it.

    Sue

  16. I wish that someone had told me that they pump you so full of fluids that you might gain weight at first. I followed my pre-op diet to a "t" and also the post-op diet. I was banded on a Thursday morning and by Saturday I'd gained 9 lbs! I didn't know this was normal and that I would lose it over the next few days and then lose alot more It was just Fluid retention. Best wishes to you. I love my band and my new flat tummy! Sue
  17. Hi Sarah:

Yes, I did get alot of insurance coverage toward my tummy tuck. I had rashes under the flab that I had hanging after losing 140'ish pounds. I showed the rash to my lapband surgeon and also to the plastic surgeon. They submitted pictures to Blue Cross saying that it was medically necessary and they covered the panniculectomy part of my tummy tuck. I don't know the exact amounts, but I know I paid only $7,000. I think that the full cost is almost $20,000 here the Boston Area. I stayed overnight one night in a very nice hospital with a private room. Good luck to you.

  18. Hi: About the plastic surgery. Please ask your doctor to put in a pain pump. I forget the exact term for it, but my plastic surgeon used one. She puts it in while she's doing the surgery and it has very small tubes that go from a bottle of anesthetic (kind of the size of a baby bottle) to the area of your surgery on the inside. It was like a quick shot of numbing that I could control just prior to getting out of bed, or anything that I could plan that might cause pain. It only lasted for three days but it was truly a godsend. I think you look fabulous! Good luck with the surgery. I'm curious about why you're getting a panniculectomy and not a tummy tuck. I was able to get the tummy tuck with insurance coverage for the panni. So, I paid the difference for the additional time, etc. Best wishes to you with your plastic surgery. I'll be thinking of you on 8/17!

    why????????

Hi: I got unfilled before tummy tuck because I've had issues with nausea. So glad I did. I had dry heaves first 24 hours after tummy tuck. I wish you well. Sue
  20. Hi: I think you should call your doctor. There could be something going on besides healing. Let us know how you make out. I love my band and my new flat tummy! Sue

    Tummy Tucks?

Hi: I had my tummy tuck on 5/14/09. I am very glad that I had it. It feels like the icing on the cake to my weight loss journey. It is painful, but worth the pain. I was at a stable weight for the 9 months prior to surgery and am glad that I waited until then to have the tummy tuck. Best wishes to you. I love my band and my new flat tummy. If you look at my profile page you'll see my b&a pics that show my tummy tuck too. Take care. Sue

    Sugar Free Desserts

Hi: I cannot remember if I used to mix sugar free Jello with sugar free or fat free whipped cream. I am definitely sure that there is fat free whipped cream. Will that do for you? Not exactly dessert, but I started my sugar free popsicle addiction during the pre-band diet. Another trick I've used is to fool myself into thinking that crushed ice with crystal light eaten with a spoon seems like a desert. Good luck! I love my band and my new flat tummy! Sue

    I wanna flat tummy

Wow! I checked out your new pics. You look so good. I don't have a significant other right now so I cannot comment on how he reacts to my plastic surgery changes. However, someone that I haven't seen since January saw me yesterday and he told me that I look fabulous! Another person told me that I have the abdomen of an 18 year old - not bad for 49! I noticed where your drains were on the pics. Mine weren't on the sides they were on the front of my abdomen about 4 inches away from belly button. No wonder you couldn't sleep on your sides. Now you can! Rest up and enjoy hot showers again! Enjoy the new flat tummy! Sue

Should you only eat when you get hungry?

Even at two years out I have a problem if I don't eat every 4 hours. What happens for me is that if I go too long I pb and slime with the food that I do eat. Because of this, I usually have a healthy late afternoon snack of yogurt or nuts or fruit to hold me over until supper. I love my band and my new flat tummy! Sue
  25. Hi: Mine is right where yours is and I've had it for 2 years. I'm glad it is there because I never have clothing bothering it. I love my band and my new flat tummy! Sue
