  1. Sally: Had my surgery with Dr. Adam Glasgow. He's a great surgeon with his practice dedicated to LapBand patients exclusively now. Here's a link to his website. www.massweightloss.com Dr. Adam is in practice with his Dad, Dr. Arthur. I cannot say enough good things about them. Check out the thread on Massachusetts surgeons in Norwood and you'll see what people have said about these two great doctors. Best wishes to you. I love my band and my new flat tummy! Sue

    Pain when swallowing

Colleen: You should probably call your band doctor. Maybe he'll do a swallow test to make sure your band is in position. Please let us know how you make out. Take care. Sue
  4. Hi: I have nausea issues so I got my completely unfilled the day before tt. I'm glad I did because I was hurling for almost 24 hours after surgery. Got refilled almost 3 weeks after tummy tuck because I didn't want to stretch the surgical area in order to get my port accessible to my surgeon. Still wasn't comfortable, but wasn't too bad to get the refill. Best wishes to you. Sue

    Vomiting Multiple Times?

Ouch! Sounds like you were "stuck". You may want to stick to liquids or pureed foods today to give your tummy a rest because it's probably swollen from yesterday. I love my band and my new flat tummy! Sue
  8. Mimi:

Best wishes to you with your upcoming plastic surgery.

    I'll be thinking of you.

    Take care.

  9. Nikki: Congratulations. You know what they say about nurses being the worst patients. I hope that's not true. I hope you put yourself first and baby yourself for a while so that you heal well and have the best results. Take care and rest up. Sue

Plateaus can be demotivating. Now it's time to get back on track. If you're not sure why you are plateauing try journalling and kick up your exercise some if you can. Another thing to try is to mix up your foods. Still make healthy choices, but different foods than what you usually eat. It sounds like you need your mind adjusted, not your band. I've said that to my band surgeon many times about myself. So, take a step back and think about all that you've accomplished and tell yourself to get back on track so that you can accomplish more. Think about it one pound at a time and I think it's less overwhelming. My weight is stable and my exercise is starting to pick up with the improvement in the weather. Saturday I took a 7 mile walk. Tonight a fellow bandster is coming over so we can walk my hill for an hour. Take care. Sue

  12. Amy - I read your blog too and just want to tell you how great you look. I enjoy your blog so much. This week when I go to support group I'm going to bring a list of my four favorite blogs and yours will be on the top of the list! Congratulations on 200. I sobbed when I saw 199 on the scale. It's such a big accomplishment. Enjoy the moment!

  13. Glad to see that I'm not the only one that gets a runny nose from eating. Such strange creatures we are. Sometimes I get a hiccup for my soft signal too. Love my band! Sue

    panniculectomy

Hi: I was covered for a panniculectomy due to rashes after losing 140'ish pounds. I paid the extra difference between a panni and a tummy tuck so that I could get the tummy tuck. I am very happy with the results. If you look at my profile page on the bottom right you can see pics of my results. Best wishes to you. Sue
  15. Hi: You should check out my doctor. I think he mentioned that he will do fills for those that are banded by other doctors. Here's his website. www.massweightloss.com Good luck! Sue

I Need Advice From The Experts!

Amy: I wanted to share with you my thoughts on plastic surgery when at size 12/14. I had my tummy tuck last May at size 12/14. I am thrilled with the results. After losing 140+ pounds I had an apron that I hated. I can get past the other loose skin, but not that apron. To answer your questions specifically: How much weight was lost after surgery? I actually gained some, but am now hanging in the 185 to 190 range. I'm 5'7" and still have alot of excess weight in my thighs and calves. My tummy is nice and flat! Did you still have a ‘muffin top’? No more muffin top, or muffins in the tummy either. Did you have to get separate lipo’? My surgeon did some lipo, primarily in the mons area, when she did the tummy tuck. She also did a little bit in the "muffin top" area. How much was your extended tummy tuck with lipo? Mine wasn't extended, and based on what I've read here, mine was more expensive than most. How many sizes did you lose? Didn't lose any sizes, but fit much better into what I do wear. Love not having my tummy hit my legs when I sit down. And most importantly were you happy with the results? I am very happy with the results. No more rashes. No embarassing apron. Best part - a woman that I know told me that I have the abdomen of 17 or 18 year old, and I just turned 50! Best wishes to you. Sue
  17. Hi: When I was on preop diet we could have sugar free liquids of any kind. That's when I had alot of diet peach snapple. Yumm! Good luck with your banding. Sue

Plastic Surgery Tips After Losing 250 Lbs

    Lipo tips

Hi: I had to wear the compression garment 24/7 for the first 4 to 6 weeks and then at night only for up to 3 months. That's what I'm remembering, but I could be mistaken. It's kind of surprising that I preferred having the tight fitting compression garments on for the first 3 months because then nothing would jiggle around and it was less painful by being bound up. Good luck! Sue

    Lipo tips

Hi: You may want to post your question on makemeheal.com There are alot more plastic surgery patients there. Personally, when I had my tummy tuck I had some lipo too. I had to wear a compression garment for a long time. I'm pretty sure that is standard practice with a tummy tuck, not sure about with just lipo. When my surgeon did the lipo she did it in the mons area too and that part was very painful for a couple of weeks. Hope all is well with you. Sue
  21. Hi: If you're not sure how to prevent from gaining the weight why not get some nutritional counseling? They will let you know how many calories you should be eating at your current weight in order to maintain or give you advice on how to lose a few pounds if that's what you need. Another thing to consider is screw the calorie and/or points counting and just exercise alot. You could try to increase your exercise enough to offset your food intake. Try wearing a pedometer and get in 10,000 steps per day (approx. 5 miles). A third thing to consider is to see your physician and have a complete physical. If you're really eating low calorie and you're gaining then you might have a medical problem. Hope all goes well and you can fight the obesity beast! I love my band and my new flat tummy! Sue
  22. Mimi: Because of issues with nausea post-operatively my doctor and I decided I should be unfilled prior to plastic surgery. Thank goodness I was unfilled because I had wicked dry heaves after my tummy tuck and it lasted for almost a day. So, if you have nausea issues I would recommend an unfill, and if you don't, then you'll probably be okay with a little bit taken out. Don't forget about the swelling that will occur. Best wishes to you with your upcoming surgery. Sue
  23. Hi Denise:

I saw your pics on the b&a's thread. Just had to drop you a line to tell you how fabulous you look! Congratulations! Your hard work has paid off tremendously. I'm sure you feel great too. Congrats again!

    Sue

  24. Cindy: Thanks for the note on my picture. If you are contemplating plastic surgery and you can afford to have it done, I say go for it! It really made a big difference to me mentally to have that excess skin away from my lower abdomen. Granted, my body is still not very attractive because I have excess skin at the tops of my legs, but I wear pants all the time, so nobody can see that. I used to hate having my lap hit the tops of my legs when I sat on the toilet. I love having it gone! A woman that I know said I have the abdomen of a 17 year old! Best wishes to you and thanks for the note on my pics. Sue

  25. I'd be mad too. It's so unfortunate that he didn't take it out when you got banded. Did you ask him why not? Best wishes to you to feel better. I had my gallbladder out 9 months after lap band, but I didn't have any history of trouble with gallbladder before banding. A little trick my Sister taught me with the gallbladder removal. My cut was biggest right near the belly button and I had alot of jiggly loose skin there too. That was where I had the most pain after gallbladder removal. My Sister said to where something tight over that area and it held everything in so that I didn't get any jiggle pain. Feel better! Sue
