TOFU Cooking Techniques and Recipes PLEASE
Lynn_Marie replied to Lynn_Marie's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks to those of you who have responded so far. Tomorrow is a payday for me so I plan to go to the store and buy what I need to try these recipes. I'm SO EXCITED! You know, you can look at recipe's all day long on the internet or in books, but it's so much better when someone GIVES you one that is THEIR favorite! :whoo: :clap2: :whoo: :clap2: :whoo: -
I did not end up having surgery with either Hitchcock or Hoehn at Shawnee Mission but I am following their nutritional plan. I would very much like to hear from others who are following it as well. As far as I know I am doing everything by the book as far as what I eat. The only thing I know of that I am not doing is the B complex. Any suggestions on that? Also, any food plan suggestions? I am still in the 3rd stage, which is days 8 - 22 where you add tuna, ff mayo, fish, tofu, etc... :whoo: :whoo: :whoo:

Any Hitchcock/Hoehn Patients Here???
Lynn_Marie replied to Lynn_Marie's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I guess I need to clarify what I originally wrote. I actually follow the diet of both the surgeon who banded me and Dr.s Hitchcock and Hoehn. The thing is that the plan with Hitchcock and Hoehn is a bit stricter and more specific and I like that. So I add those restrictions to what the surgeon gave me. Another reason is because I was originally planning to have my surgery here in the states with Dr. Hitchcock (insurance wouldn't pay) so I had been to some of the seminars and had been learning the plan. My daughter-in-law had lapband with Hitchcock and my son had R n Y with him so I was already familiar with my daughter-in-law's nutritional plan. -
I'm doing G-R-E-A-T so far. I'm eating 3 meals a day, no more than about 4 oz. and sometimes only 3/4 cup. My first 3 days was clear liquids, next was full liquids and now I am having some soft foods like tuna w/ff mayo or ff miracle whip, eggs, fish, tofu, etc... I don't eat any snacks and I don't drink anything for 1/2 hour before a meal, during the meal or for 1 hour after the meal. The rest of the time I am constantly drinking water during the day at work and a sugar free flavored drink all evening at home. I don't actually keep track that closely but I am sure I am drinking around 2 oz. every 15 minutes or so. I am also drinking a low cal, low carb protein drink (25-30gm protein) in the late afternoon. A typical day looks like this: Breakfast: 1 egg scrambled Lunch: 1/2 to 3/4 C refried beans Late day: 4 oz. skim milk w/ protein powder mixed in Dinner: 3-4 oz. Tilapia filet (fish) I also take 2 chewable multi-vitamins/ day and 1500 mg calcium in the form of sugar free chocolate flavored chews daily. I need to choose a good B complex and get started on that, too. :clap2: :whoo: :whoo:

Where Did You Have Your Lap-band Done?
Lynn_Marie replied to Lap-bandit's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I was banded in Monterrey, Mexico by Dr. Arturo Rodriguez..Excellent surgical team and facilities! -
Wow! I have been reading all these horror stories about infected and flipped ports. What in the world makes a port flip anyway? Does anyone have any statistics on how many people have this problem?

Hi! I'm self -pay and I had my surgery in Mexico...much, much less and just as good of care! I will be seeing Dr. Malley for follow-ups and fills. I know someone who sees him and she says he is great. (she had her lapband in MX, too) There are two doctors performing wls at Shawnee Mission Medical Center, too. Their names are Hitchcock and Hoehn and they are the ones who are really leading the way in the KC metro area. They have a very comprehensive program for the whole person (nutrition, psych, etc...) but the complaints I am hearing are that it takes too long to get the surgery with them, sometimes more than a year. Good luck with whatever you decide!!! :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

I live in Kansas, reasearching banding NOW WHAT?
Lynn_Marie replied to TracyinKS's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Tracie! I live in Edwardsville. To the best of my knowledge, Dr.s Hitchcock and Hoehn at Shawnee Mission Medical Center are pretty much leading the way in the KC Metro area. Personally I couldn't afford them (self pay) so I went to Mexico for mine a week ago Monday. I called around to find follow up care and fills and had no problem getting them at a reasonable price. (prices vary greatly) Good luck...I started my process over a year ago. When I learned my ins would not pay I started researching Mexico. Feel free to email me if you would like more information about any of this.:mad::success1::car::):):):):):):):):) -
I had my surgery done in Monterrey, Mexico, too...but I went to Dr. Arturo Rodriguez. He has an excellent team and I have no complaints. Four of us went and had surgery the same day and none of us have any complaints. Two of us stayed in a brand new Courtyard Marriott while the other two stayed at the Quinta Real. (5* hotel) Both were very nice...all transportation provided, English speaking surgery team and nurses, etc... and MUCHO LESS $$$ ! No trouble finding local doctors willing to do fills in the KC Metro area. Just called around for best prices. (and they do vary alot!) Good luck!!! :whoo::mad:  :clap2:

Hi everyone! I'm an elementary paraeducator in the Kansas City Metro area. I love my job...especially the flexible schedule...don't have to worry about bathroom, amount of time for lunch, etc... I just had surgery August 13 in Monterrey, Mexico with Dr. Arturo Rodriquez! So far everything is going G-R-E-A-T!!! I'm 5'4" and my starting weight was 228. I have lots of comorbidities, which I am not just hoping, but PLANNING to get rid of. I have not taken any of the 3 diabetes meds since right before surgery and my sugars are always good. Of course, I know the true test will come when I start adding more and more foods to my diet. But I'm stayin positive! :whoo::clap2::whoo::clap2::whoo::clap2::whoo::clap2::whoo::clap2::whoo::clap2::whoo::clap2:
