    I'm Starving!!!

Hi Sweetpea...I understand what you are saying about being truly hungry late at night because it happens to me often, too. I usually eat dinner around 6:00 and by 10:00 my stomach is really rumbling. What do I do about it? Nothing! I just ignore it! I just say no, it's ok to be hungry and anyway it's bedtime, not mealtime, so I am not going to eat. Then in the morning after going to bed hungry I find I am hungry for my breakfast instead of just eating it because it is 'breakfast time.'

    Anyone in "bandster hell" yet?

Ok...any kind of 'hell' doesn't sound good to me, let alone one that is going to ruin my band experience. After reading this thread I called the fill doctor and asked to be put on a list to be bumped up into a spot someone else cancels out of! I decided 10 weeks would be entirely too long to wait for my first fill. :nervous

I tried the Miso soup! I'm not sure if I made it right or not though because I've never had it before. Is it supposed to be kind of bland tasting? I have some left and I'm thinking about putting a little soy sauce in it.

Share with us: What has improved for you?

Well, I've only been banded for 3 1/2 weeks, but I do have a few... 1. I can go up and down the steps like a regular person instead of one foot on the step and then the other foot on the same step, etc... 2. I can bend over with my seatbelt on and pick something up off the floor by my feet. 3. I can get in and out of the car easier. 4. I can get up off the toilet easier. I'll post others as they come, but the greatest of all is that I DON"T HAVE TO TAKE HALF THE MEDICINE THAT I USED TO!!! :bounce:

    Soft Stop Anyone???

Just this morning I read this: When you eat according to your body's cues, chances are 90% of what you eat will be for nurturing your body, and 10% will be for nurturing your soul, and both are important. I believe it is quoted from a book called Intuitive Eating Has anyone heard of it??
  6. I originally posted this in the wrong section but I am reposting it here because I really want to know. I have noticed that there are quite a few people who have had bands removed, replaced, port revisions, stomach erosion, etc... and I am really wondering what causes all of this? I especially would like to know how to PREVENT any of these from happening! <!-- google_ad_section_end --><!-- / message -->

    Soft Stop Anyone???

Yes, head hunger versus true hunger. When I'm truly hungry my body lets me know without a doubt when my stomach starts growling like nobody's business! Never heard anything so loud come from down there before banding!

    Flying

I flew home from Mexico after being banded, but I have heard something about letting the band down before flying. You should check with your doc about that. When I flew there was nothing in mine, but there were two in our group that did have small fills and no problems at all.

    ???honeymoon???

Ok, I know I am just 3 weeks post op right now but everything is going so great! I am not craving anything what-so-ever and I am satisfied all the time with eating meals like just a scrambled egg with a little cheese for breakfast, about 3/4 C of refried beans with a little cheese mixed in for lunch and a piece of baked or sauteed fish for dinner. I also have a low carb sugar free protein drink each day to insure that I am getting all my protein in and I take my vitamins. PLEASE tell me that this is not just the honeymoon! PLEASE tell me that as I go on with the weight loss, eventually getting fills along the way, that this can continue on just the way it is! IF THIS IS THE HONEYMOON, I DON'T EVER WANT IT TO END!!!! :nervous

    Taking meds after banding

Funny you asked! Just the other night when I was taking my medicine I had a little 'incident'! One of my little bp capsules just kind of 'floated' back up! VEry interesting! What did I do about it? I just grabbed my water and sent it right back down! LOL!!!:bounce:

TOFU Cooking Techniques and Recipes PLEASE

I, too, am really enjoying this thread! I just hope it continues to attract people with recipes who are willing to help us make them! I'm like you Cerrin...it helps SO MUCH when someone walks me through it. I'm looking at the universities here to see who is doing some classes at the local health food stores. Hope I find some!!!!! :bounce:

    ???honeymoon???

Oh, you don't know how badly I hope you are both wrong! So you really believe that eventually everyone goes through bandster hell? Well, I'll just have to try and pray alot! I was really hoping that if it had to happen that it wouldn't happen until after I get a fill. How DO fills play into the bandster hell thing???
  16. Lynn_Marie

    Erosion, Femovals, Flipped Ports

I totally agree with both of you! I will follow the rules to a 't' but if it can happen anyway...well, I'll pray alot, that's all. I think it's really commendable that you have kept your weight down even after removal! Congrats on that!!! :whoo:

Can only compare to a C-section

I had 3 c-sects...no comparison what-so-ever!!! Small incisions compare nothing to being cut from belly button to pelvic bone and having the uterus dissected also. The gas is much different, too. It's higher with the lapband and passes much, much, much quicker!!!

    Diabetes & Osteoporosis-gone!

That is awesome! I, too, have stopped all my diabetes meds. I quit them a couple days before surgery. I was taking a pill morning and night that gave me horrid diahrea and two shots of medicine in the belly before my two largest meals.(not insulin) I am so glad to be rid of them all! I have also been able to stop the cholesterol med. and am looking forward to ditching some b.p. med. once I have lost enough weight! :bounce:
  19. I like whey protein powder mixed in a little milk. (4-6 oz.) I buy it at GNC and Walmart. The brand at Walmart is called Body Fortress and the one from GNC is the big gray jug..can't remember the name right now. I have only tried the vanilla from Walmart, but it is good. It foams a little when you shake it which the GNC ones don't. From GNC I like the chocolate and the chocolate caramel. Haven't tried their vanilla or strawberry. If you are going to get protein powder the key is to get one LOW in carbs and HIGH in protein...but not too high. I've been told (by a doc) that our bodies can't use more than around 25 g per serving. So just use one scoop instead of two!

    ???honeymoon???

Heather, it sounds to me like you are doing just fine. Isn't it nice not to have to be hungry and fighting it all the time? I'm still hoping someone who is way far post op will tell me it can stay this way and THIS IS NOT JUST THE HONEYMOON! :guess

    When you get stuck.....

The only thing that I've had feel like it was stuck was a capsule I take for bp. When it happened it didn't feel like it was caught in my throat exactly...just there somewhere...wierd. Anyway, it just kind of 'floated' back up so I just drank some more water and floated that sucker right back down! LOL!

    Soft Stop Anyone???

I totally agree that it is amazing! I wonder how many other things our body is telling us that we could be aware of if we would just 'listen' closer!

TOFU Cooking Techniques and Recipes PLEASE

Wow! You guys are awesome! Good questions WASabubblebutt!!! And great answers VEX!!! I just love the way you are sharing techniques with us! I never would have thought to 'press' the tofu between 2 plates with some weight on top to get more water out! Thanks, too for the roasting directions! This is exactly what I was hoping for when I asked for recipes and techniques! Care to share any other of your baked (or other) recipes? Our group's 1 month bandiversary is next Monday and I would like to take a tofu cheesecake. I have a couple recipes but would prefer one that someone has personally made and knows is good. So...More recipes anyone??? :hungry: :bounce:

TOFU Cooking Techniques and Recipes PLEASE

YEA!!! I am so excited about cooking with Tofu! I tried the Thai Tofu Bake and thought it was great but I have some questions. VEX - What should the consistency of the sauce part be like? Mine turned out pretty thick. If it's not supposed to be that way I think I know what may have gone wrong. The peanut butter I used I got at the health food store and I ground the peanuts myself in a machine they have there. Nothing else is added...just peanuts. I'm thinking maybe it was too thick??? I left the mint out and doubled the basil (fresh Thai basil!) but I only used one red pepper because they were so high. Next time I'll use two. Cerrin - Which kind of Miso paste was I supposed to get. They had a red, a soy and a barley. I bought the soy but can take it back if it's not the right one. Also, I noticed you said to use whatever amount of miso I wanted to make it taste the way I want, but how much should I start out with? When you say to put in just a small amount...are we talking about a tablespoon or more or less??? Thanks for you help! I would still love to get more of anyone's favorite Tofu recipes! :hungry:
