confused about overfillor just reflux.....
Lynn_Marie replied to JA4602's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had a fill this past Monday and had trouble sleeping the first night because of reflux. Next day at work I was miserable. I talked with the school nurse where I work and she gave me some zantax. Wow!! Worked miracles! Of course I went and bought some but I haven't had to take any today and so far I'm doing great. For awhile I thought I was going to have to get an unfill! -
Ok...here goes. BACKGROUND INFO: Surgery Aug 13 - Have lost approx 40 lb to date. Gained a little back over holidays, but have it back off now. PROBLEM is I just got a fill a couple weeks ago and the scales haven't been moving at all! Band holds 4cc, I now have 3 cc. (Doc says next fills will be much less aggressive.) WHAT'S GOING ON?? Tightest in the AM - have had Protein Drink or thin oatmeal (time restrictions) Looser at Noon - have eaten thin deli meat, processed type chicken breast and cup of Soup or cottage cheese, DINNER IS DIFFICULT! I have that pain/golfball feeling, sometimes I slime, and sometimes I have to leave the table and get rid of some ABOUT PB's - I just WISH I COULD burp!!! That's what it feels like I need to do. But instead I just hurt and slime and try to swallow it back down, which hurts more. This doesn't always happen, but when it does it doesn't seem to matter if I am eating a miniscule amount at a time or a larger bite. If I get rid of some of it I can go back to the table and eat a horse!!! SO, WHAT IS IT? Is it because there is too much air in the pouch when I start eating and it gets 'trapped' in there by the food that goes down? That's what it seems like. ANY TRICKS to alleviate this? :rolleyes2: WHAT DO I NEED TO DO? HOW I'M FEELING - Frustrated, discouraged, afraid I won't lose any more weight, angry that I may have to pay and pay again for what may be too small of fills SORRY so long. THANKS for reading.

Thanks for all your responses. I am giving much thought to everything you have said and it is helping me get my head back in the game. I just wish it could be like it was in the beginning. I was NEVER hungry, could only eat a half cup or 4 oz at a time, and the weight was falling off. I wish, I wish, I wish!

Is anyone familiar with the term "soft stop" in reference to knowing when to stop eating? From what I read it can be anything from a sigh to a runny nose to hiccups. I have the sigh one. After eating almost the reccomended amount of food I sigh. It's not anything I consciously do, it just happens out of the blue and when it does I stop eating and find that I am perfectly satisfied! I can and have eaten past my soft stop, but only on a few occassions and I think I feel best when I don't.
-
Wow! Since I originally posted this I have had a couple of fills and now seem to have LOST my soft stop! Now I have to really watch it!
-
Anyone else? Seems like since it has gotten cold here in Kansas City I am craving carbs like nobody's business! Any suggestions? Didn't lose a thing last week because of this!

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism (Hashimoto's Disease) and have been on Synthroid for 20 years. I have lost 39# since Aug. 13, 2007 and have been told to continue taking the same dosage but only 6 days a week now. I feel G*R*E*A*T!!! May I also add I am no longer taking the 2 diabetes meds or the cholesterol med I was on before surgery. WooHoo!!! :whoo:
-
Yup...all 3 of them know. The oldest one had RNY and has lost 170# himself.

C*O*N*G*R*A*T*S!!! You are on your way to a new and better life! :whoo: :clap2: :whoo: -
What have you done about your rings???
Lynn_Marie replied to blahblahblah's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
After losing 30#, I took my wedding rings and my grandmother's wedding ring that I wear on my right hand to a jeweler that we know and trust and he sized them down 2 sizes for me. I guess I may have to do it again if I lose all my weight. But it's definitely worth it!!! :whoo: -
I paid $7,700 and my airfare to Monterey, Mexico to have surgery done by Dr. Arturo Rodriguez. There were four of us who went down together and had lapband surgery, so that price reflects a small discount.

C*O*N*G*R*A*T*S!!! You are doing a great job! I look forward to joining you there some day! :whoo: :whoo: :whoo: :whoo: :whoo: :whoo: :whoo:

I am so glad someone asked this question! I just saw my Endocrinologist Tuesday and he told me it is FINE that I have stopped all of my Diabetes (Type II) medications! I stopped taking them before lapband surgery on August 13 and hope to NEVER have to take them again! All that finger sticking and giving myself two injections of Byetta (not insulin) a day and taking Avandamet twice a day, which has metformin in it which gave me the s**ts like you wouldn't believe, are all gone now! YEA!!!! I've also been able to go off the cholesterol med (Zocor) and am looking forward to getting off some of the bp meds! Plus, I can go up and down the stairs at home like a normal person instead of one foot on the step and then the other foot on the same step, and I don't have any pain what-so-ever and I don't hear hardly any crackling in my knees! My hip joints have stopped hurting, too! There are other things that I could go on and on about, but you really only asked about the Diabetes meds so I'll cut this off now. Good luck on your lapband journey! Lynn :whoo: :clap2:

Nope, no port pain. But I would imagine it would hurt if I coughed alot because of the muscles around/behind it flexing. Seems like vomitting might have that effect, too.

Congrats, congrats, congrats! We're all so happy for you! :whoo: :clap2: :whoo: :clap2: :whoo: :clap2: :whoo: :clap2:

Anyone have a scar revision surgery after c-section?
Lynn_Marie replied to 4meonly's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I don't have an answer for this, but I am sure glad you posted it because I would like to know myself for the same reasons. I had 3 c-sects which were vertical from belly button to pubic bone and then years later a hysterectomy which was done with the bikini cut. If I have to pay for the surgery myself I won't be able to get it done, so I'm sure hoping insurance will cover it some how or another! :cry -
Before and NOW pics.....45 pounds gone!! Any differences???
Lynn_Marie replied to gladster12's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You look great! I can see the loss all over your body! Thanks for posting them...I started at the same weight and had surgery with Dr. Rodriguez, too, so it's cool to see what I might look like when I lose some more! Keep up the good work! :whoo: -
In the beginning I was told no caffeine. Is that forever? Because since the weather started getting cooler here I have been going for the hot drinks. I started off with decaf but am finding myself wanting the real deal now. I know the rule that for every ounce of caffeinated beverage I need to replace with 2 oz. non caffeinated. But what is the rule about caffeine in general???

I've lost 34 # in 3 months and my bff who had surgery with me has lost 55 #. Neither of us are excercising yet. :straight
-
Ok...this may be what some of you referred to as 'bandster hell'...I dunno...but I've lost 32 or so pounds and had a fill just a couple weeks ago (1.5 cc in 10cm band that holds 4cc total) and for 2 weeks didn't lose an ounce! In the morning I couldn't care less about food, by lunch I want something, but by dinnertime I could eat a horse! I want the restriction back that I had in the beginning! H-E-L-P!!!! :help:
-
Well, the main thing is just keep working at it. Do you eat much fish? When I was in Kampala we ate Tilapia from Lake Victoria. Best fish I've ever had! It's so good for you, too. One thing you might try is olive oil. It's one of the good oils. I use it in a lot of foods and don't notice it making them taste different. I understand what you are saying about having a big family and making things stretch, too. That's a hard one!
-
It sounds like you may be 'mourning' the loss of food as you have known it in your life up til now, and that's normal for a lot of people. Hang in there! Look for support all around you, professional and otherwise. Good luck!
-
You could just do a search for calorie counts and get the answers that way. You are probably going to want to stay away from what you call 'starches' which are high in carbohydrates and calories. Also, my doctor said no fried foods or rice. What did your doctor say?

My Port has flipped - Revision surgery!?
Lynn_Marie replied to TulipStar's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Wow! I am really sorry to hear that! Did the doc give any explanation as to why it may have happened? I'll just die if anything like that happens to me because I'm self pay and my surgery was done in Mexico! Eeeegadssss!!!! :faint: -
