I hit my Labor Day goal. I weighed 214.4 this morning. New mini goal... 210 by Labor Day
-
219.6 I started this challenge at 235.
-
225 today. It hasn't budged in 3 days. I drank 2 glasses of wine Saturday for the first time since surgery. I wonder if that caused a mini stall.

Protein Shakes....What's your favorite?
BamaGirl08 replied to Photo925's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've had this shake for lunch twice this week. They have it at a gas station near my work. I love that I can get 40g in one shake. It takes me about an hour to finish it. I'm 3 weeks post op. -
I bought 4. One is half full in my fridge and the other 3 are still sitting on my counter. It is possibly one of the worst things I've ever tasted. I tried and tried to finish the one I started but I just couldn't do it.

My last meal before starting my pre-op liquid diet was lobster Mac and cheese with a lobster tail on top. I had a week of faves before that which included a pimento cheese burger with pepper jelly, smothered pork chops with cornbread dressing, pasta with mussels, scallops, and shrimp and a white wine cream sauce, almond fried chicken, sushi.... I also drank a bottle of wine my last night of food and probably a gallon of coke during the week. I'm pretty sure I gained 15 lbs that last month lol

Chapstick was my favorite possession next to my iPad. I had my favorite little egg shaped Chapstick. That stuff is the best. .... Never mind. I just realized this question was from yesterday. -

Roll Tide! I'm about 3 hours to your southeast, but I went to UA and travel there frequently. I had surgery 6/21. -
June sleevers, check-in!
BamaGirl08 replied to cutiecake's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You can have canned tuna with fat free mayo, avocados, scrambled eggs, baked, broiled or grilled fish, and any meat that has been cooked all day in the crockpot when you are at the soft food stage. -
June sleevers, check-in!
BamaGirl08 replied to cutiecake's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Every surgeon has different rules and timing for the stages. My particular surgeon says soft foods starts 3 weeks from the date of discharge. -
I'm not sure where to set my goal as I've had surgery within the last two weeks and am currently dropping almost a pound a day. I know this will slow down soon. Sw: 245 Cw:235 Goal: 210 (?) too little? Thoughts from the pros?

Time off work-did you need more or less
BamaGirl08 replied to mochax's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I work for myself so I've been trying to balance work and my lack of energy. Surgery was 6/21...I was released from the hospital on 6/23 and I had a court hearing in heels the morning of the 25th. I took the rest of that week off and only worked about 4 hours a day this week. My dr keeps you on Clear liquids for a week after you are released and so I had very little energy. I go back to my regular schedule on Monday. I can't wait until I can get to soft foods on 7/13. I think that will really help my energy level. I'm dreaming of scrambled eggs at night lol I haven't had any pain and feel pretty good. Maybe it's not so much a lack of energy as it is I really like this not working thing and wish I could just stay at home a few more weeks. -
This is what I'm the most worried about. I lost a bunch of hair when I went through a divorce about 5 years ago and had to have injections in my scalp to restart the growth in those areas. I don't want to go through that a 2nd time. I had surgery 6/21 so I haven't had any hair loss yet. I'm taking chewable biotin dots every day. I just can't seem to get enough protein in while still in the liquid stage. It takes all day to drink a protein shake and I can't find the Special K protein water packs anywhere.

The ride to the hospital takes 5 minutes. You stay safely inside until you take your 5 minute trip back across the border. They didn't even stamp my passport at the border. It doesn't look like I even left the country. Rosy does the run 7 days a week. You are in good hands. I've got a bunch of pics of my experience that I would be happy to share with you. They make you feel comfortable as soon as you walk in the door. It doesn't hurt that Dr. A and Dr. Rosales are both good looking guys. :-)

I had my surgery in Mexico and had a wonderful experience. I researched surgeons for over a year and went to one who, while pricier than others, I felt was the best for me. So far, I've received better treatment, communication and follow up than I've ever received in the US and I have easy access to my surgeon and his staff. I don't regret my decision to cross the border at all. It's all about doing the research and finding the best fit for you. I've never heard of being charged for the hernial repair. The surgeons I researched do that as part of the sleeve, if necessary, at no additional cost.
-
I was there June 21st-23rd. The hospital is a mile over the border. Rosy pulls you straight up to the hospital and walks you inside to meet Dr. Alvarez. Jessica will take your family to dinner or to the market during your hospital stay. My mom went to a store down the block by herself with no problem, but she speaks perfect Spanish. She didn't find it any more dangerous than where we live in the states. You will love Dr. Alvarez. I was up walking the halls the day of surgery and walked the Riverwalk and Alamo area as a tourist the day I was released from the hospital.

After a year of research I had it narrowed down to those two. I live in Alabama. You fly into San Antonio, Texas for Dr. Alvarez. I researched doctors forever. He's got a lot of info on his website, a YouTube channel, radio show and a Facebook group where he talks and answers questions. You just have to do the research and make sure you're comfortable with who you choose. Different surgeons use different methods and have different leak rates and different follow up care. I even did a search here of each surgeon I considered's name to read what people were saying. I did this weekly for a few months. Good luck in choosing a surgeon and scheduling your date!

Dr. Aceves passed away in a plane crash last week. I have heard that his assistant surgeon will now be performing the surgeries at his center. I was scheduled with Aceves in early June and cancelled in April to schedule with Dr. Alvarez in Mexico. My choice was made simply based off the length of the plane ride to each surgeon as they are both considered top in their field and have similar pricing. I had a wonderful experience with Dr. Alvarez.

Scared for 2 week liquid diet
BamaGirl08 replied to crazykim's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I only had to do one week of liquids pre-op and I thought I would starve the first 3 days. After that I wasn't "starving" anymore or maybe I just got used to the empty feeling. I had surgery on 6/21 and have been on clear liquids since. Now I'm actually looking forward to being allowed a protein shake and some thicker soups. I'm planning a healthy version of crab bisque (using puréed cauliflower instead of cream), butternut squash soup, split pea soup.... The yummy "full liquid" choices seem like an opportunity to me now instead of a dreaded punishment. Get creative in the kitchen and find some delicious things you can have on your liquid diet. -
My surgery was June 21st. I'm going back to work tomorrow and will also finally get to be on full liquids. I haven't had much pain or heartburn yet and I'm hoping that will continue as I leave the clear liquid stage. I didn't lose much the first few days but dropped 2 lbs between Friday night and Saturday. I keep telling myself that the weight will melt away, I just have to keep smiling and following the doctor's orders. Nice to meet some people who are within just a few days of me.

BamaGirl08 replied to cutiecake's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Surgery Date 6/21/14 SW 245 CW 238 I start full liquids tomorrow. Can't wait. I've been living off of sugar free Popsicles and Gatorade. I've already made myself a homemade low fat low carb crab bisque to take to work with me tomorrow. -
Post Op June 2014 Sleevers
BamaGirl08 replied to KimGettingSlim's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery June 21. I have to be on clear liquids until Monday. I can't wait until I can start on full liquids. I've grown to loathe broth. A protein shake is a treat I'm looking forward to having next week. I've even got the soup planned to make on Monday. I didn't think I'd be this hungry after surgery. I'm down 5 lbs from my surgery date.
