I had sleeve gastrectomy March 2014 and have done great however I have a friend who had surgery 7 months ago with a different surgeon who I have some serious questions about. She stayed on a liquid diet for 3 months post op with his approval and encouragement and since trying to reintroduce food at about 4 months out is unable to eat even 3 bites without vomiting. I'm concerned 1) that her surgeon who is a general surgeon now heading up a local hospitals "bariatric program"; 2) she had egd about 2 months post op but nothing since; 3) I'm concerned that she might have developed either stricture or adhesions or volvulus. In addition she lost 68 pounds while on liquid only diet but has not lost another pound since that same 4 month mark. She stalled at 220 and is frustrated and very upset that she is both unable to eat and still not losing weight. I don't live with her so I'm taking her word for what she's eating but she swears she throws up everytime she eats and that she only eats 3-4 bites at a time. Has anyone else had this issue and what is best advice /course of action for her to pursue?

Thanks Jessiegirl, yeah I've suggested all those options as well as calling the ins help line for a consultation. I appreciate the feedback -
I was told to take the acid reducers twice a day for three months minimum. Check with your doctor

Getting surgery on monday! 3/24/14

I had a real dislike for the icky sweet protein shakes (I'm 2 weeks post op) and looking for an alternative; I tried unflavored ( really isn't unflavored!) and was just making myself do it until I found the SYNTRAX LEMON TEA NECTAR. I mix this with unsweetened tea and it is actually pretty good. Best wishes on your journey. Welcome to the great adventure -
I'm in. Will be back Sunday with weight.

BariatricPal Local Chapters…a New Way to Connect!
shadowsmom replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I would definitely be interested in helping with a local chapter and with the training offered would be interested in leadership. I am really a newbie at this life having only been sleeved 7 days. I think prepared agendas at least until the concept takes hold would be helpful. I also think the local chapters would be a great place to meet and establish mentoring groups. I think this is a great idea and sorely needed in southern Oklahoma where I'm from. -
I was sleeved the 7th and am still trying to figure out what "she " wants and when she wants it! I am on 3 weeks of liquids only and my surgeon said 1oz every 15 min no more than 4oz in an hour. I used to drink 5-6 44 oz glasses a day and as such drank a WHOLE lot more than 1oz/15min. My struggle now is remembering to SIP not guzzle or whatever I did before. When I stay within those guidelines "she" and I get along great but if I pick up and drink mindlessly like I used to HOLY COW "she" lets me know it. Finding the balance between protein and liquids and still keep her happy is a challenge for me. Wish you all the best. We can do this!

From reading here I think it is pretty common, I sure had it. Gasx strips every 2 hours and lots of walking. I'm day 7 and now it is intermittent, not all the time. Congratulations and best wishes for your journey.

if you are on the hydrocodone liquid pain med that's what it is it stopped the day I switched to Tylenol I found swishing water in my mouth and gargling a bit helped a lot without actually swallowing.

Sleeved yesterday

Do you have gasx strips? They saved my life in the first four days. The majority of my pain seemed like gas. I can also relate to the gurgling spasm thing. I told my hubby it was like trying to communicate with an alien inside me who is now calling the shots! Hang in there in gets a little better everyday. -
Slow deep breaths help sometimes. Think back to what brought you to this point I'm sure your daughter figured in there as well, you are doing this to Improve your quality of life.! It is a big decision but try to keep your eyes and thoughts on why you made this choice in the first place. Praying for peace of mind and rapid recovery. God bless you

New Here Looking For New Buddies
shadowsmom replied to Curvy_Goddess's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Welcome to all the newbies...lol that was me less than 30 days ago. There are some tremendous mentors on this sight, folks who are months out and nearing their goal and a lot who like me are just slightly ahead of you time wise and will be happy to contribute whatever I can to your journey. I was sleeved march 7 and after a fairly rough weekend am now off pain meds and made my 60/60 goal yesterday of the first time. I told my husband it is like I have this alien inside now calling the shots and I have to learn how she communicates. But in less than 5 days we are doing pretty good together. Tomorrow I'm going to hit the treadmill and make the rest of my body mad. I will say all the emotions are completely normal, I was up a lot the last two nights prior to surgery and while I didn't really feel anxious or scared that was what it was. I'm happy to help anyway I can, feel free to hit me up if I can help. Best wishes to you all on your journeys! -
Katt there are some really good post wls cookbooks on amazon as well as a book by Cynthia Alexander called EMOTIONAL FIRST AID KIT a practical guide to life after wls. This journey for all of us has never just been about the body. The mark of success is not that you never fall but that you get up one more time than you fall. Wishing you the best.

Post-op food nightmares..
shadowsmom replied to Cookiesgotthis's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I can't help but join in on this one. Today was hubby's birthday and I fixed his favorite - homemade lasagna! I am day 5 now post op so none for me. I told him if that didn't show him I love him I don't know what more I could possibly do! -
Janey, you'll do great. All those feelings and questions are universal I think. Just keep your eye on the prize- your new healthier life waiting just 6 weeks away. (Or so). What is a few weeks in light of the rest of your life? I had my sleeve on the 7th and it's been like learning to communicate with an alien in my body and believe me she's calling the shots. But we're working it out. It took me to day 4 to get close to the 60/60 goal. My advise is focus on hydration the first couple days so you don't have unnecessary issues from dehydration. There is no way I could get to goal the first two days but those days were learning what full feels like and how long until I need more. When my doctor told me it would mean 6-10 meals a day I now know why......you have to get in liquids too and can only do about 4 oz at a time. You'll do great. Best wishes for your journey.

. Sizz. I wish you the best. I had surgery Friday and everyday has been a little easier for me. Had a rough weekend I won't lie but I was able to meet my 60/60 goal yesterday. Just focus on liquids the first day or two so you don't get dehydrated and cause more issues. I stopped the hydrocodone the 3 rd day out and did great on liquid Tylenol for the next two days. Yesterday didn't take any pain meds. I wish you all the best. I'm keeping my focus on the horizon when I'm past the liquids and soft food restriction. 6 weeks is NOTHING in view of the rest of my life. We can do this! Best wishes for your journey!

Kajun. Sorry for multiple posts it told me first did not go thru!
-
. Kajun I was in the same boat my advise is start at the lowest dose MOM. I took the full capful and starting going 30 min later and has emergency liquid bm all day long. TMI right? You will feel better almost immediately but the dose cup says 2 - 4 and I took 4 then spent the rest of the day trying not to embarrass myself. Lol. Today was my day 4 by the way.

I had my surgery on March 7th ready to get the next couple months in the rear view but honestly my surgeon told me I would feel better than I expected sooner than I expected and he was right, each day has been a bit easier and today felt like things were starting to level out. Best wishes to all. Congratulations on your choice to take care of yourself.
