My name is Rachel. I found BariatricPal while searching for information regarding the surgery. It is a very informative site. Love reading stories and advice from other people who have the same struggles I have. I first checked into bariatric surgery in early 2011. At that time I was going to be self pay. I went so far as to have a surgery date set up and cancelled a few days before surgery. Then a couple of months later my mother passed away very unexpectedly so didnt revisit the surgery. In 2013 my insurance company added bariatric surgery to its covered plan. I began to rethink the surgery. I have been overweight for most of my adult life and have had high blood pressure. Since my mother had a massive heart attack I knew I needed to get my health and weight under control. I was uncomfortable with my looks and with how winded I got when I played with my granddaughter or anything else. So I went back to see Dr warden in May 2013. I had to do 6 months of preop visits prior to my Dec 2013 surgery. I can honestly say having the surgery is the best decision I have ever made. I have had no problems and have done great. I am off 1 of my blood pressure medicines and weaning off the other. The surgery is not an easy quick fix.... you have to be conscious of everything u put in your mouth. As many people have said.... I wish I had done this earlier. I feel better than I have felt in years.
