    April 30th!

Hi Everyone! I just wanted to check in. I am doing okay but I'm having a couple of issues. I thought maybe I would run them by you all too see if I could get some advice on how to deal. So my first issue is is that I seem to throw up everytime I eat melon. It has happened every time I have eaten watermelon and it happened tonight when I ate some crenshaw melon. I have a feeling that the obvious response here is to just not eat it. I think it could be the sugars in it that is causing me to throw up but I really don't know. I don't WANT to stay away from melon, I love melon, but maybe it's best?? My second issue is around exercise. I was doing really great with getting my exercise in over the last couple of months. I haven't had a job so it's been easy to get to the gym whenever. I was in a pretty good routine. Then I got a job. Now what? I can't seem to get up early enough in the morning to get to the gym and by the time I get home I am just EXHAUSTED! Has anyone dealt with this? What is the best solution? Should I quit the gym and walk at my house or how do I make time for the gym when I am so tired?! I feel super crappy for not going to the gym or exercising much over the past 2 weeks and I have been really beating myself up over it. UGH! I am sure the answer is simple and I just need to MAKE the time but why is it so hard? Okay, my rant is over. Sorry if my problems seem stupid but I don't have many people to talk to about this stuff who would truly understand more than any of you can. Thanks

    April 30th!

Michelle - I was out of town this weekend too eating out pretty much every meal. We were gone for 5 days! I am proud of most of my choices but I had a hard time a couple of times. I tried eating pizza which was one of my favorite foods pre-surgery. I was SO disappointed with the pizza and it wasn't interesting to me any longer. Something I can definitely live without from here on out. We also did a lot of walking, more so than usual so I felt good about the amount of exercise I got. I am glad to hear you are out of your stall! It's frustrating but at least you are losing. I have recently started to feel hunger again. It's usually a few hours after Breakfast so I am wondering if maybe I am not eating enough for breakfast to keep me satisfied. I don't know.....

That's good that you are better with your Protein Plumlove. I have been having problems with it from the get go. I couldn't handle the Protein shakes after surgery. They made me gag so the surgeon told me to discontinue them. Even now though, I can eat what I want and I am STILL struggling to get all of my protein in! I think it's because I still can't eat that much and I haven't been eating actual meat all that much. Glad you made it here momof2! I am about where you are. My HW was 272 and I was 252 the day of surgery. Now I am 217 as of today! It's super exciting! I am down 4 pants sizes. So glad/relieved that this is working and I am doing everything I can to work with it.

    Depression

I suffer from manic depression (bipolar) and have since I was 11. Since surgery I have been feeling positive for the most part. There were a few days where I felt really down and sad but I pulled through it b/c I am more important than feeling negative. The more negative/sad I feel the more counterproductive it is to my journey. I am 7 weeks out and a long way away from goal. About 7 years ago I had lost 100 pounds (gained it all back quickly) but I remember how happy I was all the time. I didn't feel sad and I felt that my medication was working super effectively. More effectively than when I was obese. I have no idea if this is actually true but that's how I felt.
  5. ejjohn - 30 pounds is definitely something to be proud of! Look at it this way...at least you didn't gain 30 pounds in this time right? Everyone is different and will lose weight differently. But I really have to congratulate you on your 30! I think that is amazing!
  6. I was in the same boat as you with the Protein drinks Rodney! I liked them pre-surgery and gulped them down without a problem. Post surgery just the smell of them made me gag. I gagged a few down the first couple of days but just couldn't do it anymore. My surgeon recommended the unflavored powder but it still didn't agree with me. I think it was the thickness of the drink or something idk. My surgeon also suggested Isopure so I bought a couple. I opened the first one and tried it and it was the most disgusting thing I have ever put in my mouth! It was really gross. I returned the other two bottles I bought. I struggle with my protein but greek yogurt has a good amount in it so I try to have that and other things like cheese and such. I am almost 2 months post op. You could try the unflavored powder to see if you like it but I would suggest getting a sample packet first so you're not stuck with an entire tub of it if you don't like it.

    The relief of the revisit

My revisit was with watermelon. And with me, because I am apparently a glutton for punishment, this revisit has happened on 3 separate occasions. I think watermelon is definitely out for me. It's too bad though, because I absolutely love it.
  8. My surgeon requires to stop drinking 10 minutes before a meal. I don't have to wait 30 minutes to drink after a meal, no, I have to wait an entire hour! That sucks.
  9. April 30th here! Starting was 272, day of surgery was 252. Today I am 225! I have gone down 4 pants sizes! It's amazing. I am not having problems with my Water or getting my exercise in. I have been having problems with eating too fast/too much. When I eat too much I throw up which is never a fun thing. I gotta get to slowing down.

    What's your Most Fave/Least Fave...

Most Fav: Always knowing that I did the right thing to get healthy/take care of myself Lease Fav: Sometimes I get down on the fact that I can't eat a normal meal like everyone else. (Then again, if I was able to do that I'd still be gaining gaining gaining).

My poor hair. Buy a wig.

I am super nervous about the hair loss. I have baby fine hair and not much of it! I told my husband that if I started to have hair loss I was just going to buy a wig for awhile. I am in month 2 and have already noticed in the past couple of days that it is just coming out. Not in handfuls but more so than usual. How long does the hair loss last for?
  12. I can drink 84+ oz of Water in a day after my sleeve. I drink until I feel my tummy get full/tight and then I stop for 10-15 mins or so then have at it again.

6 months today - with current picture :)

Thank you for putting it all out there and being blunt about it. I really admire that. I liked that you wrote about the fact that it is still a struggle and weight gain is still possible after 4 years. I really needed to hear that. You are definitely an inspiration! I look forward to continuing to work hard to get to where I want to be too.

    Running

I also have arthritis in my right knee. I was never a runner but it still bummed me out that I wasn't going to be able to do a lot of high impact exercises. The best form of exercise my doctor told me was swimming. It burns a TON of calories and is easy on your joints. I try to get in the pool now at least 2-3 times a week. Feels great!

    Protien Drinks/powder

The only ones I can stomach after surgery are the Pure Protein shakes. They have 35g of protein and come in chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, etc.
  17. I am having the same problem and I am 6 weeks out. My doc told me yesterday to be taking a fiber supplement every day like FiberCon. He said to use the Smooth Move tea and the dulcolax pills. If absolutely necessary I could use the suppositories as well.

    ITCHY

Usually when you have itchiness around a wound it's because it's healing. It's pretty normal for the incisions to be itchy for awhile.

    Why the recliner ?

I never had to sleep in a recliner. I have a tempurpedic bed where the head and feet can be raised. I didn't have to raise the head that much though to be comfortable and it definitely wasn't in the same position as a recliner. I am a side sleeper and slept on my back the first few nights. Until the incisions weren't so tender anymore. Then I resumed to my side sleeping.
  21. I would say that my favorite NSV so far is that I went from a size 20W to a 14 in 5.5 weeks! A whole 40 pounds gone. Oh, also that I can shop in my closet now for clothes I haven't worn in AGES because I was too big to fit into any of them. It's exciting!

    April 30th!

I have a hard time with the exercise bike. For some reason the pedals are always so small and one of my feet goes completely numb after riding it for a bit. I think I have a slight nerve issue in that foot. When I am at the gym I am on the treadmill. I get a bit down though sometimes when there are other people around me that are walking like I am but they are going at a 3.7 pace or what have you. I can only get to a 2.8 pace and I am really speed walking at that point. I may just have a smaller stride, who knows. Michelle how do/did you like your fit bit? I was thinking about getting one sometime soon but I haven't really read any reviews on them. What is your name on MFP? I'd love to add you as a friend! Kpay - 68 pounds is fantastic! That is so awesome. 2 pounds or not that is still just great! If you start swimming again I am sure you will be able to do 45 mins of exercise with no problems to your feet. Kaiser just scheduled my 3 month appointment for July 3rd. Apparently that day is going to be a long day for me in SSF because there is a class I have to go to and I am assuming some blood work and who knows what else.

    April 30th!

My 40 pounds were with 20 before surgery and 20 after. I too am eating between 700-800 calories and I could definitely eat more. I think though that between 700-800 is the magical number at least for me. This week I was disappointed because I only went down .8 pounds. Then there are other weeks where I will have lost 3 pounds. I HATE exercising but since I have been getting into it more and actually doing it I am starting to like it. I have been going to the Y and using their gym. This week I am going to start alternating swimming and gym. I used to love to swim in HS (a LOOOOONG time ago) and I finally got back in the pool on Friday. Oh how I've missed it! I have to say swimming is def my favorite exercise. Plus it's a whole body work out. Do either of you use MFP?

    April 30th!

Hey ladies! Just wanted to see how you both were doing. I can't believe it's already been 5.5 weeks! Time sure does fly. I am doing well. Eating my soft foods and trying to work out like a maniac. I am down a total of 40 pounds as of last Saturday. I have gone down a total of 3 pants sizes and the ones I'm in now are getting pretty baggy so it looks like I will be going down another pant size pretty soon. I hope you are doing wonderful and are well!
  25. I LOVED my shakes while I was still preop. After surgery though my taste buds just revolted against the shakes so now I don't drink them. I am going to try them again in another month though and see how my body reacts a second time aroun.
