Good luck to everyone tomorrow and congratulations to everyone who joined me on the losers bench today. Hope your all doing well.

To all who are having surgery this week, congratulations on your journey to date but especially for your surgery this week. I can officially speak as a loser when i say that everything you will experience during you recovery may not be the most pleasant experience of you life but it is going to be worth it. Every time i feel a twinge or bite in my tummy i remind myself that this one week of discomfort will result in so many more years for me. I'm already off my diebetes meds and cholesterol meds. My blood sugars are actually better then they were with meds, who would have thought that could be possible inside of 2 days post-op? So know that you're doing the right thing for yourself. Best wishes and good luck. :-)

My nut said lactose intolerance tends to develope over time in gastric patients. She suggested lactaid, it has the nutrients milk has, just no lactose to upset the tummy.

Struggling with 2 week liquid - Surgery 3-26-14

The liquids before were unpleasant at best for me but they did get better with time. Hang in there your time is almost here. -
Feeling discouraged
SugarFreeMe replied to irockedthe80s's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have you tried making your own popsicles or Jello with unflavored Protein in them. The shakes have started getting to me pre-op because of the sweetness. I've reduced the flavored scoops to one and have added one scoop of unflavored, much better. -
i was amazed at my medical clearance appt with my PCP when she told me that the night before the surgery was the last time I'd have to take my high cholesterol and diabetes meds. WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Talk about amazing. Next and last it the high blood pressure.

Just got called, they moved me from 11:45 am to 7:30 am. Reporting at 6:00 am - I'm so glad, I didn't want to sit around all morning.

2 more days to surgery
SugarFreeMe replied to pupichupi's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I understand completely. I'm having my RNY tomorrow, Friday my family ordered pizza and it smelled so darn good. I fixed up my shake and hid in the bedroom for a bit until they were done and had everything cleaned up in the kitchen. So far that was the only food that really had me on edge, but I was determined not to eat it. For me it was like a personal triumph and I felt good to have faced that demon and won. You'll do fine, stay focused and positive. -
How long for approval from BCBS Illinois?
SugarFreeMe replied to beckyloo4's topic in Insurance & Financing
After completing all of my surgeons requirements they resubmitted and everything went fine. They got the approval the same day. My surgery is tomorrow - yikes. -
Molly, I didn't realize you were tomorrow also. Best to you also - Here's to being on the other side.

Hang in there Annymarie, soon enough. Best to you and Blue both. Kimberly, yes I'm still on for tomorrow. Getting very gittery, trying to stay focused by cleaning, packing and getting things ready here. How about you?

alternative to protein shake?
SugarFreeMe replied to tyt221b's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You can also try the unflavored protein powder instead of the shake protein powder. The shakes tend to be really sweet, so sometimes I only use one scoop of shake mix and a scoop of unflavored, especially when I add fruit or peanut butter. -
Annymarie - Good luck tomorrow. Everything's going to go great for you and you'll be home in no time. Prayers coming your way girl.

Although my weight is 207, consider that I'm 52 yrs old and only 5'1". Also, I have High blood pressure, High Cholesterol and type 2 diabetes with a family history of heart disease. My health issues are what's driving me to take control of my life and fix it before it's too late. I have far too many things to do still. Each person has their reasons for wanting to do this or for not doing it. WLS is a very personal decision that only you can make for yourself.

Insurance denial? Appeal?
SugarFreeMe replied to kittydream's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Each insurance company has their own prerequisites that their insured have to meet. It's typically a BMI of 35 and higher with 2 or more co-morbitities (high cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes, ect...) or a BMI of 40 or higher. Also, some require a 3 or 6 month recorded diet recorded by your PCP or a dietitian before they will sign off. They're all different and deny/approve based on your ability to meet their requirements. It's best to always check with your insurance coordinator before you start your journey. -
So glad your home and feeling somewhat well. From everything I've read, it's not so much the protein you REALLY need to worry about, it's more about staying hydrated, so I wouldn't be overly worried about the proteins. Feel better.

Uh Oh! My "Labs" Are Good
SugarFreeMe replied to Nellarifixmom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I shouldn't really have much of an effect given your BMI. I also have high cholesterol but it too is controlled with medications. Don't stress over it, you should be fine. -
There's a thread for March surgeries, check it out.

will my story ever stop?
SugarFreeMe replied to LilMissDiva Irene's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Reflux is the reason I choose gastric bypass as opposed to sleeve. I'm surprised when you had the band removed the surgeon didn't tell you then about the sleeve not being a good choice for people who tend to get reflux. Anyhow, good luck going forward. Your right that looking back doesn't do any good. Keep moving forward. -
Delayed! Is recovering alone a good idea?
SugarFreeMe replied to WhoKnows's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When you talk to them next time, explain to them exactly what you said to us. It's reasonable to want to be able to try working it into your schedule. June is far enough away, it's not like your trying to push them into doing this next week or even next month. Good luck, but be persistent. -
Will I ever get a surgery date?
SugarFreeMe replied to Meems's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Congratulations on your date, that's just around the corner. Do you have a liquid Protein diet to follow? I've had to do a 15 day Meal Replacement with Protein shakes. At first they didn't seem that bad, but after all this time they seem overly sweet and I'm bored of them which is bad because I'm going to be having them for a LONG time. I have samples of many varieties but I don't want to try them until after my surgery. I've read that your tastes change, so if I like it now, who knows later. Keep us posted and again congratulations. -
http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/261167-list-of-bariatric-nutritional-companies-offering-free-samples/ Try the above link, it's a forum here under Gastic bypass forums, go pretty far down the page and there's a forum for nutrition. Each person is different as far as taste. I've also read many comments about how things you like before surgery will make you sick after. I've gotten a lot of samples that I'm waiting to try afterwards. Also, I don't know if your aware, but you can see if your insurance company will pay for Insure Nuritional shakes. If you go to thier website it walks you thru the process. They do all the work for you as far as getting a scrip from your surgeon and getting approval from insurance. It's always worth a try. There is a thread here about it. Search for "Insurance paying for shakes" (I think that's what its called) Best of luck to you.

Take some Tylenol for the headache. I promise it will go away in a few days. Don't give up, this is the first battle and you CAN beat this. I'm on day 10 and I honestly don't even think about it any more and the hunger I felt the first few days is no longer there. Sounds impossible to you now, but you'll see, it's true. If you feeling like giving up, check back, we're all here to support each other. Always!!!!!

From Surgeon appointment to surgery date!
SugarFreeMe replied to Amanda729's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I attended a seminar in December, had my first meeting with the surgeon on the 21st of January. From there it was all the testing and various appointments. My surgery was approved by insurance before I even had all my tests completed. (BCBS-IL) My surgery is this coming Tuesday the 18th so it took 2 months. I had my last pre-op with the surgeon today - It's a go. Best of luck Amanda. -
Welcome to the group. The March surgery group is awesome, but they all really are. Congratulations and best of luck
